While this officer is civil, he violates the guys rights by searching him without consent (4th Amendment...although since Jeremy didn't object that insinuates consent). Also not exactly sure of where he lives, but in most states that allow open carry, your firearm can be loaded. I applaud this officer for being professional and not trying to threaten Jeremy. It is important to remember that you are not suppose to lie to police, but they can lie to you, so know your rights.

No, MOST cops are like this. Proof is in the videos on youtube. If you ad up all of the videos of cops not doing the right thing and compared them with the amount of cops in the world, the percentage of cops not doing the right thing would be in the hundreds of thousandths of a percent. I don't agree w/ MeanxBean279 that cops have the right to "beat you up and down the block", but I get his point.
I think Officer Lyons handled this wonderfully and I wish more cops were like him, but I think he was being baited. I don't find it unreasonable for an officer to want ID from someone who was stopped (I didn't catch the reason) and is carrying a gun. If "Jeremy" had a record and used that gun to harm someone right after this video there'd be upset over how the cop should have known.

No, MOST cops are like this. Proof is in the videos on youtube. If you ad up all of the videos of cops not doing the right thing and compared them with the amount of cops in the world, the percentage of cops not doing the right thing would be in the hundreds of thousandths of a percent. It's unfortunate that people only post the bad crap because it's more sensational than the good stuff.

And even then we only see the edited bits that make the cops look like they are doing the wrong thing. We NEVER see the leadup from the dickheads that causes them to react. I would not trust anyone but a trained police officer carrying a handgun in public, loaded or not. It takes 3 seconds to load.
Having a permit is completely irrelevant, you can't check for it and you'd be dead before you asked if he wanted to.
That is definitely not the best way to handle the situation either, he didn't even tell him to raise his hands.

I may actually reconsider my stand about military personal going into law enforcement.
I have always believed that any ex military person wouldn't be an ideal fit for police officers as they have been trained for war not as Citizens on Patrol...

@ThePsychonaut92 of course, police in areas with higher crime rates tend to "take their job more seriously" than those of lower crime rates. those higher crime places often end up with innocent people just being harrassed for simply living there
