  • His family must be so proud. I grew up hearing his voice and watching his shows. His radio work is my favorite. I'm so sorry you lost Stacy, too. Thank you for sharing this incredible video.

  • @bunnyknows1 Thank you for your kind words...Yes, we love him more than anything and his memory will always be in our hearts forever...

  • Yes, that is true..."Sorry, it's Joe's day off" was used many times.

  • I wonder what Jack would think about the world today?

In many ways he was right about hippies and drugs and the anti establishment people. My aunt use to date bobby troupe in the 40s back in lancaster, Pa.

Jack was born the same year as my dad. My dad served in the marines during WW2, south pacific. He always said that the movie D.I. was a good flick..He should know. R.I.P. Mr. Webb

  • the scene at 2:16 where it is raining is that from the pilot?

  • @SIGNALSTAT

Yes, according to our paperwork this picture was taken on March 17th of 1966 on the Universal back lot...The rain was courtesy of a large water tank and rain towers.

  • Happy Birthday Jack...April 2nd...We love you.

    Your Family

  • Was it raining at 2:16

  • @paramedicEmergency51 Yes, it was taken on the Universal lot during the finale of Dragnet 1966...The rain was thanks to a big water tank and some sprayers.

  • Interesting, never knew he had children, are any (if any) still with us?

  • @BushMass Yes, two GREAT children.

  • It was said in the late '60's that people use to call the LAPD back then actually believing Mr. Jack Webb worked for them. At least that's what my mother told me back then.

  • She is right...This happened often in the 50's and 60's...He loved the LAPD and they loved him...The LAPD honored Jack's passing with full departmental honors and awarded him the distinctionof being the only civilian at that time to receive services reserved for police officers killed in the line of duty. Such recognition and honor for Jack would surely have been the crowning achievement of his life.

  • @streetrace442 It was also done during the 1950's run of Dragnet net and the standard answer the desk officers would give to the callers is 'Sorry, it's Joe's day off.'

  • I'm 21, and am jealous that my father's generation had the pleasure of enjoying Mr. Webb's smart acting and very appealing messages, and that I didn't. :) It's real hard for me to watch the junk that's shown on T.V. these days, so much so that I don't even bother. He must have been a fine man, to engineer all these shows, and so far the only respect I can pay him is with a genuine comment and by watching his productions! What an honor it would be to meet him. ~God Rest His Soul. Thank you.

  • Jack would have appreciated your kind words...We all love and miss so much.

    The Family of Jack Webb

  • @outtaker Well spoken... RIP Jack.

  • @irish89055 Thank you.

  • This is to the Webb family. Do you have any props that were used in any of the Dragnet 60's shows? For example, the 66 Ford, or the black telephone that he was always using at PAB? Any thing like that.

Is Peggy Webber still alive and if so, how is she? She must be in her mid 80's by now.

  • @SWApilot1964

Yes, Peggy Webber recently worked with us on Dragnet 1968 on DVD and appeared in the bonus feature "Jack Webb-The Man Behind Badge 714" which came out earlier this year. She is the founder of California Artists Radio Theater and still performs today. Many of the pictures in this video are from Webb's Dragnet 1966 scrapbook...Glad you enjoyed them.

Thank you for remembering Jack Webb

  • Jack is remembered and loved

  • Jack Webb didn't just try - he succeeded.

This is a warm and honest tribute to Jack and Stacy, which I enjoyed very much. Thanks for posting.

  • No one in the comments have mentioned Pat Novak! I recently discovered "oldtime radio" & Jack Webbs work, and have been kept at the edge of my seat listening to "Pat Novak For Hire", "Johnny Madero, Pier 19" and "Pete Kellys Blues". There's dark storylines, sharp snappy dialogue and some great characters. I can't recommend them enough (at the Internet Archive).

  • he was great in THE D.I....he is the reason i joined...

  • Got to love a guy who brought DRAGNET,ADAM 12 AND EMERGENCY into our homes to enjoy,I love them shows!!!

  • He left behind great shows, such as Dragnet and Emergency, which has inspired

countless young people to follow a career in law enforcement and the medical response field and will continue to do so. He was a positive force who left his mark on the world for all future generations.

  • The Late Entertainer Jack Webb did it all in the motion picture and television industry. This video deserved high accolades for his work in association with "Dragnet," "Emergency," "Adam-12," and "Hec Ramsey" during the 1960's and the 1970's ... not to mention his early life. A Briliant 16!!

  • He looked very native American....

  • @Gladiator0719 Yes, his teenage mother was Creole Indian and his father flew the coop before he was born.

  • He was so talented..

I love all the shows he did...

  • What a great tribute to a guy who did it all--#714 was a special contributor to our entainment industry.."You forgot one thing "---Joe Fridays fav.saying--Bruce in Oregon.

  • LOVE IT I MISS UNCLE JACK OF THE LAPD SGT JOE FRIDAY BADGE #714 I WEAR HIS BADGE NUMBER IS HIS HONOR KEEPING 714 ALIVE REST IN PEACE JACK

  • Thank you so much for the info. I'll be looking for it in July.

  • We are proud to announce that we recently teamed up with Shout Factory/ Universal/NBC and put together an excellent Jack Webb/ Dragnet 1968 DVD series that will be out in July. It contains many great bonus features, alternate excerpts from "Just The Fact's Ma'am-The Authorized Jack Webb Biography" and new interviews with Dragnet cast members and Webb's former wife, the beautiful Jackie Loughery.

    The Family of Jack Webb

  • This is really well done. Jack Webb was such a wonderful and talented man.

  • a real class act , Jack Webb...long live #714

  • Fantastic. Great video. I grew up with Adam-12 and Dragnet and became a huge fan of his. He inspired me to go into law enforcement. My humble thanks to a great man.

  • Wonderful tribute! Thanks for sharing.

  • As a kid back in the 1970's, I loved Dragnet and Adam-12!! I still like to watch the episodes when available. They don't make shows like this any more! My grandparents are buried in the same cemetery as Jack and on occasion I have tidied up his head stone.

  • Thank you so much for posting this video. I'm 47, and have been a Jack Webb fan for years. Recently, I got my fourth (or fifth) wind as a fan, and am watching the daily reruns of Dragnet (again!) They still keep me glued to my seat and make me think after each episode. I wonder if Jack ever thought, that in 2010, his show would still be on the air...and his words would still inspire. And I'll have to track down another copy of "The D.I."..this time, on DVD (I hope.)

  • wow, very good :) I enjoyed very much

  • Interesting to hear what Stacy said, considering she had so much troubke herself.

  • A true American legend, wish more people in law enforcement had his work ethic. A true pioneer of radio and tv. Currently listen to dragnet on xm radio. Never miss it. Thanx for posting.

  • to webbauthority714--thanks for the info--but let me ask you a question--hopefully you can answer it-if not ; i understand--were Jack Webb abd actor Richard Boone good friends? And do you know if Richard Boone has a star on the hollywood walk of fame? it would be nice to know--and if he does not--i think he should have one. Anyway; you guys are great for posting family slides--Mr. Webb seems to have had a good life--and god blessyou guys!

  • Yes, Jack was friends with Richard Boone...They starred together in "Halls of Montezuma "(1950)...Boone later starred in a Mark VII production called Hec Ramsey (1972-1974)...Haven't seen a star for Richard Boone on Walk Of Fame...He sure deserves one.

  • @webbauthority714

I ,too,am a big fan of Mr.Webb, and his work with Mark VII Production Co. Can we look forward to further releases of programs such as "Hec Ramsey",on DVD ?

Also,I would love to see some of the 1950's Dragnet's with Ben Alexander. Thanks...

  • i am a fan --what a great actor--does he have a star on the hollywood boulevard walk of fame?

  • Yes, Jack Webb has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame...One for Radio and one for Television...Thanks for watching the video.

    The Family of Jack Webb

  • hopefully god will find away to send jack back here (we need ) him back his carracter is sorly missed today..

  • He was one of my idols, "30" is my favorite film of his. Unique and unforgettable, as was the man. Thanks for the lovely video and the memories!

  • Jack Webb did more than just try - he carried out his ideals for television, especially when it came to law enforcement.

    Thanks for posting, friend.

  • Jack Webb and Dragnet paved the way for other future nitty, gritty crime dramas such as Law and Order, NYPD Blue, Hawaii Five-O, among shows to follow.

  • I'm a huge Jack Webb Fan, I'm 48 now but I grew up watching all his shows and now I am working on buying them all on DVD like Adam-12, EMERGENCY, Dragnet series, They are sometimes hard to find but I'm determined to find them all. I also want his Show called The DI but I haven't found it yet. I love all his work and I wish he was still here able to make those shows because in these times, I know he would come up with a great show for times like we live in now

  • That is a lovely tribute--thank you so much for sharing. We still watch Jack on TV daily, and we've seen all the 50s Dragnet shows that are available many times. Such a class act!

  • im a huge jack webb fan, huge! all his work from the early 50s till his passing. as a boy he became part of my life, im 45 so i was quite young during dragnet on primtime, we as a family loved his work and his carictor, my dad could not wait to watch dragnet each week, we looked up to him as children, when ever i saw a police man i would ask him, were is joe friday? unreal, i wish i could find some kind of fan club, anything to pay respects and remember a time in my life that was so wonderfull!

  • Thank you so much for all of your kind words...Jack would be moved to tears by your comments...We love and miss him very much.

    The Family of Jack Webb

  • I greatly admired the man when he was alive and still do. God bless all of the Webb family.

  • Hey, does antone know when Season 2 of the color dragnets will be coming out? Jack was great! Thanks, Rich

  • Jack Webb is an American hero. Great vid 2 a great man.

  • mr webb's best movies,1948 'he walks by night',1950 'sunset blvd' ,1959 '30' plus countless others, these 3 are my favorites, haven't see 30 in many many years, these folks are in '30' , olan soule, from just about EVERY episode of dragnet, howard mcnear 'floyd' from andy griffith, richard deacon ' mel cooley' from dick van dyke, william conrad are in it along with joe flynn 'mchale's navy',whitney blake, 'hazel' and ricky's older brother david nelson.

  • Jack Webb. He Tried. He succeeded in movies. Television. And made television and movie history worth remembering.

  • I miss Jack. :( WE could use a man like him again.

  • This was a wonderful video. I enjoyed watching it. I am in the process of reading the book "Just the Facts, Ma'am." Thank you for sharing these pictures with everyone.

  • Jack Webb is a true American icon.

  • Bit of Trivia, Jack was married to Julie London and nightclub singer and actress and after they divorced she married Bobby Troup who were both on "Emergency"

As a young teen back then I had the hots for "Nurse Dixie McCall"

  • Thanks for bringing back the memories of more innocent days and the people who helped to keep them that way.

  • When Jack died back in 1982, the L.A.P.D. gave him a police officer's funeral. A movie policeman given the first class treatment, and this was never done for a outsider before. He certainly was a actor who seemed real. That is a good actor.

  • He wasn't an outsider. I'm not sure when he did it, but Webb became an LAPD Reserve officer and I believe his badge number was actually 714. The world lost a good man when he died. R.I.P.

  • Great tribute video, but it leaves me melancholy, about the wiser world I grew up in that's now purely history.

Jack Webb's mother was Jewish and Jack looked Jewish as a teen and college student. He is a classic case of an effeminate young man who turned into a man's man in middle age.

Do you guys know he played jazz trumpet?

Joe Friday married for life. Jack Webb, like most southern Californians in show biz, divorced at least once.

  • Wikipedia says his father was Jewish and skidaddled before he was born. His mother was Roman Catholic and raised him as one.

  • I sure miss the days of respectable programming when the majority of entertainment supported " Truth, Justice & The American Way".

  • During High School at LA High Jack "student directed " a drama production , the programs were printed on bathroom paper towels the show was called Cobb's Cosmic Cogs - Even during his years in school Jack displayed a great talent for Theater Arts & Directing-

He was always the same - dead pan - straight at you- the facts - thats all just the facts-

  • Jack was the best thank you

  • A special "thank you" to everyone who enjoys watching this family video and keeping his memory alive...

    We love you, Jack...

    Your Loving Family

  • Thank you very much for posting this!

My local TV station airs 'Dragnet' every weekday, paired with 'Adam-12'. I'm rediscovering them again, and enjoying watching them. Not only are the stories entertaining, but shows that, wherever you live, the men and women of your local police department are there to protect and serve you and your community.

Mr. Webb, you tried....and you succeeded immensely. Thank you, sir.

  • Dragnet is a classic , I absolutely love the delivery of the dialogue on Dragnet.

TV is crap these days , it makes you appreciate a class act like Jack.

  • Make sure you look up Jack on The Tonight Show with Carson. The Copper Caper bit is a scream!

  • This is a wonderful tribute to a real American legend. Thank you so much for posting it.

  • I read that Jack Webb was a wife beater and abuser. Any truth to this?

  • Absolutely Not!!! He remained friends with his wives even after a divorce...He hired his ex wife Julie London and her husband Bobby Troup to star in Emergency. How many guys still hold the door for a lady??? He did...He was a complete gentleman...

  • thanx Stacy, while boys wanted to be superman and gene autry , I wanted to be Jack Webb, I was pro police when it wasnt popular, well it still isnt , but his works affected my life profoundly, gave me a solid foundation , I like to think ,I can almost rattle off one his great anti drug speeches , . . . but , . . the world was , . . a better place because of your father Jack Webb, once again , thanx for the great insight to his life

  • What a great tribute. I figure I watched Dragnet every night for 7 years back in the '90s. I loved seeing the personal pictures, like of him on the lawn mower. Beautiful music too. Thanks!

  • Jack Webb was an innovator in defining the genre of crime dramas with Dragnet. Thanks to his production company we also have fine programs like Adam-12 and Emergency! as well. His talents are greatly missed and I would venture to say very few of the current generation will ever see or appreciate Jack's contribution to entertainment.

  • He was a great actor and of course my all time favorite police shows are Adam 12 and Dragnet. Plus he loved dachshunds, how cool is that?

  • Today (Jan 6) I celbrate my birthday. I have been watching and admiring Jack Webb for more than forty years! He obviously had great love for law enforcement!

If he had been a cop in real life, the world would be a better place to live.

Please know that I mourn with the family. May the God of Whom he spoke bless all of you both now and forever.

  • People tell me I look like Jack Webb! Go figure!

  • That's awesome to look like Mr Webb! You are lucky!

  • who is performing this? i love this version

  • the song is "That's All" played by Herm Sanders.

  • his performance is particularly nostalgic and moving to me. i cant seem to find it online though :(

  • I can only find speculation that "Herm Sanders" was the birth name of Sun Ra. This is not Sun Ra for sure! If you do figure out who it is then please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated.

  • Herm Saunders was one of the producers of Adam 12 and also appeared in Pete Kelly's Blues with Jack Webb. Very nice tribute to Jack Webb.

  • Oh, thanks. That clears up a lot!

  • Excellent! My Mom went to the same High School....Belmont High School in Los Angeles! Jack was one of a kind and I sure wish I could have met him. I did see him once at an Ice Capades show at the old Pan Pacific in L.A.

  • That's All is the song.

  • funny, i am a guy that is kinda anti "the man", but i loved all jacks stuff..

  • America could sure use a few more Jack Webbs!

  • In Webb We Trust, friend - In Webb We Trust!
