i have dark skin and its a lot darker than the highlighter you held up, im an nc50 so what highlighter would you recommend? its so hard to find good makeup products, tips or tutorials for dark skin. thank you!! x
love the video, some people say you should use a highlighter under the eye like touch eclait, but others say in a high defiantion photo it will make you look like you have panda eyes, would you use it under the eye? x
@TheMakeupstyle7 depends on the product. A true highlighter like this one by Becca would not look good under the eyes at all but the concealer pen types look ok so long as you dont use too much X
I have an olive - golden skin tone, and more yellow during cold months. Still medium skin tone though. Asian (if that helps). I WANT TO GET BECCA TOO BUT IDK IF I SHOULD GET OPAL (opal) or the PEARL (pearl white). HELP?! :)
Hi Lisa!!! I need some help!!! I have no idea what color to get for highlighter. I can get quite tan in the summers, but I have a medium tan, olive color throughout the year.
do you recommend the becca's opal color?? or pearl? how about Nars Orgasm Illuminator?
Lisa, please help! im a light to medium skintone with golden/warm undertones... around an nc25-ish.. and i already have the body shop radiant highlighter.. i only have enough money to get ONE becca shimmering skin perfector, shud i try the one in 'pearl' or 'opal'? thanks so much!!! i love u! xoxo
I absolutely love the finish you got from that highlighter- I think I'll have to check it out :) I love your films- they're sooo very informative and you're such a classy woman. Btw- your skin was absolutely gorgeous in this film- even before the highlighting:). Honestly, if I had to guess your age, I'd say you were around thirty:). I don't know how old you are, so that could be taken as a compliment or an insult- but I mean it as a compliment, of course! =)

Hi Lisa, I have a question. My nose tends to be the only dry spot on my face. When i apply my liquid foundation my nose looks flaky and dry and it dosnt look nice at all, Please help me! Thank you
Hello Lisa, would the cream blush and highlighter look like they have uneven patches if I have to conceal a bigger area of acne scarring and blemishes to conceal? Do you have any suggestions and tips to help me? I really hope that you would answer my question. Thank you so much, Lisa.
How brilliant. Finally after years and years of trying to use highlighter and some random advice from other professionals a way that lt looks like I can mange it. It's so inspiring. I only hope that it will suit my really wide face. I wonder whether I should use a bit of contouring after. In any case I cannot believe that we are getting advice from someone of your calibre. Cannot thank you enough. X
But I ALWAYS have to powder Everything...and clearly it doesn't work as well with powder over the top? So I guess I'll just have to use too much every time =/
Hi Lisa, just subed to you right now...would like to know if you have any other suggestions for highlighters for Ebony skin tones? Not sure if I can get Becca in the US?
Hi lisa, I was wondering what your thoughts are on the Topshop makeup lines? (core + the smoke and mirror or sandstorm). Would you do a makeup look using their make up range? :) thank you!
Dear Lisa,I am a make up artist in Greece, and I admire your quality work and fine manners too.I think you truly 'honor' the title of a make up artist...I personally can not stand foundation or powder-of any kind-on my skin (at least for everyday life).I mostly prefer my skin to be polished&moisturized. This is why I love liquid highlighters. They seem to accentuate the 'healthiness' and transparency of the skin.So do you think I could use them on bear skin?If so,what would the best way be?Thank u!
@DRZ4007 thank you, you are very kind. Of course you can use highlighter on to bare skin, just follow the same blending rules and apply a nice thin layer x
What do you think of Guerlain Metéorites powder(the violet scented one with green, rose, gold, white and violet),is it meant to be used also as a highlighter?
"disco dolly" made me laugh! I love your videos Lisa -- I've learnt a lot from you. In particular, my foundation shades. I was always choosing shades too dark for my face, the skin on my neck and chest is lighter. I looked at the complete picture and I've now got the perfect shade. Thank you so much!
i loved the concept of natural eye catching glow you gave in this video instead of something shimmery sitting on top, but Becca or Boots is not an easy find (im from italy) as compared to other major brands, can u suggest something similar or in powder form which is beautiful and i can get easily for meduim olive skin tone? e.g. guerlian meteorites( which i really fancy alot), estee lauder, dior, chanel or any other more widely available brand's highlighters, looking forward for your advice!
hi Lisa, i have a small skinny face, i like to use highlighter to give some dimension to my my face, but every time i put it, i end up looking like a clown then i wipe it off..... can you please give some tips ... thx <3<3<3
Hi Lisa! I discovered you a few weeks ago because Wayne Goss sent me to you :) and I´ve been watching all your videos since then.
I really like the way you make things simple. Sometimes makeup can be a little overwhelming for people like me and following your steps makes it much easier. I think you´re really talented and it´s clear that you enjoy your prefession so much! You really get to transmit your happiness to me. Thanks for sharing such an amazing knowledge.
Dear Lisa, thank you for the tips on this one. I've been using YSL Touche Eclat but really didn't have a clue where to put it so a big help. I'm going to give the Becca a whirl now. Your skin looked amazing in that video. xx
you used it very close to the outside corner of your eye- I am worried that that would just highlight the fine lines on my 38 yr old skin. Is that not the case?
is there really a big difference between Becca and No7? I am torn between buying the two, the only thing deterring me from Becca is the price! Although in the description is says it has alot of skin loving properties. I really hope you can me in making my mind up :) Thanks for your lovely videos, really love watching you xx
Hey Lisa! I discovered you a few weeks ago and I've been like addicted to your videos since then! you're so professional and talented :)
I'm really looking forward to buy the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector but as a MAC NC25 don't know if Pearl is too light for me... should I choose the Opal shade instead?
Hi Lisa, I have melasma on the top on my cheeks, just where you apply the highlighter. In this case should I conceal it before applying the cream/liquid highlighter? Or should I use a powder highlighter or even neither? Thank you in advance!
@BRalyne depending how bad it is you could either highlight with liquid first and then conceal (do this if the problem isnt too bad) or conceal well first and then apply a light dusting of powder highlighter (if the melasma is very pronounced this would be better) x
@talkaholicsk you can still use it however make sure you only use it on the high points of the face ...just on top of the cheekbones and on your brow bones not any where near your t-zone. To counteract the shimmer of the highlighter, powder and mattify your oily areas x
@lisaeldridgedotcom Thank you for your reply! =) Just one more question, would a powder highlighter be a better alternative as it does not add much glossy finish as the cream/liquid ones do? Again, thank you for making such informative, great, INSPIRING videos! I can never get enough watching your tutorials. x
@fashionballetNYC5 they do two different things to your face so it looks fantastic when you use them together ...but you can use either on its own too X
Sorry, I am just confused about the order because everyone says differently: so the right order is: primer-foundation-highlighter-corrector-contour-blush but then where is the powder? It's important to blend the contour, blush everything into the foundation but won't the powder ruin everything and take away the slight shine? Sometimes I feel, now I got everything, and ...well no!
Hi Lisa...I'm not sure if it's just me but I cant seem to watch this vid, I can watch all your other ones? I'm trying to find out which colour to go for in the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector. Cant get enough of your vids, love it so so much, thank so very much!
I just wanted to know which color Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector you would recommend for carmel colored skin? Also I am so enamored with the wealth of knowledge you provide as well as your amazing personality.
Concerning the Becca highligher, when you said "dark" skin, how dark are you talking? I am NC 40-42ish in Mac, I am olive and medium tan to tan depending on the season. Do you think I should get the topaz by becca? Thank you!
Lovely video - so useful! Boots No 7 HighLights is a pinkish highlight but seems to look okay on my warm, deep NC42 skin - does that make sense? Or am I actually looking like a goofball without knowing it?
hi lisa! i adore you and your videos! i feel i can totally trust your recommendation an advices in kosmetic issues!
i've got a question: when do i use a cream highlight product and when do i use a powder highlighter such a the Laura Merciers stardust? do i ever use them in combination?
This is the best video I have seen on this topic. Thanks so much for this. I love Becca products and will be looking to get the shimmering skin perfector to try now. Thanks again.
I love all your videos! Thanks so much. I've never used highlighter but after seeing the results you've achieved I am going to give it a try. You already look amazing but I can't believe how incredible you look at the end of this video! Thanks ever so much for sharing your talent with us.
yes boots no. 7 is gorgoeus!! There are two diferent versions tho. one of em comes in two shades (peach & pink) with a brush. The one i'm using is called " high lights illuminating lotion" and it only comes in a pearly pink color and the bottle comes with a pump. it's still being sold in stores.
i accident'y voted down on a comment but i absolutely adore your videos. everything you use i want to go buy immediately!!!! i watch your videos over and over again .. please make more!!1
Hey Lisa! You are so so helpful! Unfortunately, I don't have a Sephora near me. I have oily, acne prone NC44 skin. Which highlighters do you recommend for me? Could you recommend many high end and drugstore brands please? Love you!
Hi Lisa, when would you use cream highlighter and contour and when would you use powder? Do you use any specific circumstances you use as a guideline? Thanks!
Thanks for this video - I saw someone with beautiful highlight the other day and fell in love with the look - i've been looking about and think i'm gonna go for a no7 one in peach!! I'm really pale lisa would you reccomend the peach one for paler skin - I know you've done work on the actual no7 makeup range. xx
Hey Lisa. I adore you! I can't seem to watch any of your vids too many times! I was wondering if you've done a videos for powder highlighters and cream contours?
one question? if i want to use a cream blush but a powder bronzer for a contour, when do i do the powder contour in the routine you've wonderfully done?
Dear Lisa, I have discovered Your videos three weeks ago and have allready watched them all. I was stunned by Your eloquence, knowledge and ability to explain in a common way. I have exam for licence to practise medicine for a few days so my family is telling me I am going to fail because I wached You :))
Hi, I was looking for the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl on the internet and I found one from lookfantastic for £28.25 and that includes postage! In a department store they sell for £32.00. Shelley x
I love hightlighting products, BUT, I have enlarged pores, not super sized but big enought to notice them, and specially if I put some hightlighter on. So what do you say? Hightlighting is not for me or do I have another option?
I just love your videos. I like the way you talk, not too hyper or overexcited. I can really concentrate on the advices you give and watch you do the tricks without being irritated. Thank you.
btw, love your nail polishes. Always fun and elegant.
lisa, I absolutely love this video- it is so helpful, especially for someone who would like to look polished and really doesn't want to look done up- thank you!
also, are there any other highlighters that you would recommend for olive-bronze skin tones? Becca isn't sold anywhere near me and I dont think that the light pink one I have is such a great idea after watching this ;)

I have oily skin as well so I wonder how to go about using powder highlighters with other powder products. Would I use powder foundation, powder highlighter, blusher...how do I fit my concealer in there? TIA! :)
you are a wealth of information...i really appreciate the way you have everything explained. it draws the whole makeup applying experience together. two thumbs up i will be watching all videos from now on!
lisa thank you for your outstanding tutorials. I have pretty good skin for a 48 yr old with only fine lines around my eyes/ eye socket area but i also have largish pores and when i do highlighting it makes me sad, i feel like i'm just emphasizing everything, but i want to do glowy. Should i just not worry and go for it?
@lisaeldridgedotcom Hi Lisa, I have a question I would like to ask you. I wonder what would be the best way to apply a cream highlighter with a loose mineral foundation. Up to now, I have used the highlighter as finishing step, patting it l with my fingers. But your video made me curious of other ways. Could I apply the highlighter with a brush on top of my foundation as you did, or even apply it over my moisturizer, and then buff my mineral foundation? Many many thanks again! :)
@benedettadc you can either use a liquid/cream highlighter after your moisturiser and then buff your mineral powder foundation on top - the glow should show through. Or you will have to use a powder highlighter like Laura Mercier after your powder foundation application x
@lisaeldridgedotcom Hi Lisa, thanks a lot for your reply, and my apologies: I only saw it today, so here is my very belated little thank-you note!
I will try your suggestions... love your videos and your take on makeup! Have a nice Summer day (and more to come)-hopefully not too hot: we are melting here in Northern Germany!
@goddess002 the Becca one is the only highlighter i have found that contains no pink or yellow, its totally neutral and pale.. shame its so expensive : ( The body shop one is pinker than this but could look great if your colouring is pale with pink/blue undertones. The Boots No7 one comes in pink and warm apricot so you can choose which one suits your skin better and is a gorgeous texture.
Lisa, I am quite pale with dry skin; would you recommend using the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl all over the face instead of a moisturizer under mineral foundation to get a nice glow (I use the Laura Mercier Loose Mineral Powder and it always looks a tad flat on my dry skin)? Thanks in advance x
lisa please make the no.7 highlighters come in a pump bottle again, I love the product but the brush is horrible and the bristles get stuck together after one use! so difficult to use :( x
@badrobot88 I agree, the product is fabulous but the tube is a challenge to say the least. I will pass your comment on to the product development team. Thanks for commenting
@lisaeldridgedotcom lisa you are amazing! i cant believe u find the time to reply to all of our questions thanks so much for replying to my comment :)
@lisaeldridgedotcom That would be great Lisa! We all love the product, but hate the packaging. I would rather have the amazing product in the same packaging as Mac's lustre drops. That way the amount of product being used can be easily controlled. Thanks Lisa :)
just the tutorial i was looking for! i love the natural glow you can achieve with your way of highlighting and it looks so beautiful on you! i would very much like to know which cremeblush you used, i was thinking of buying one because i normally use powder blush but i very much like the look of the cremeblush!
@lisaeldridgedotcom hi lisa, i'm indian and have a medium olive complexion, and can't seem to find a peach highlighter in the us. i was wondering if you had a recommendation besides the one by boots.
thank you so much for your videos, they've been a phenomenal wealth of information!
@pendu87 Its 'muse' by Illamasqua on my nails. I havent tried the Mac cream colour bases as highlighters but the texture is good so its more a case of finding a good, flattering shade for your skin tone x
thank you for getting back to me! im just worried that the cream color bases have chunks of glitter which is painful to look at on someones face lol.. thank you! please make more videos :)
Oh I didnt realize they have chunks of glitter, in that case its a big no no then! Look for something without the glitter factor lol! Thanks so much for all your comments and for watching my videos. Lisa x
Dear Lisa, thank you so much for your videos, especialy for basics series and for morning after! I adore these fresh looks you do. Less is more! And I must say the secrets about highlighters are very helpful, I was always wondering how some women look so chic and glowing. I showed this video to my friend and she was also amazed to know that. You explain things very good and clear, and you are so natural beautiful)
i still use revlon skinlights in peach, cuz i have medium dark skin. I never thought of using a brush, assumed that fingers would work better, and never thought of taking it towards cushion of the cheek either...it must look really natural. thanks.
Do you know if you can get a similar effect with any powder illuminators? I use mineral powder foundation and putting cremes over it just doesn't work.
Also, really amazing videos, I really like your philosophies on how makeup should mimic natural beauty.
Just discovered your channel, and this vid was such a treat to watch. I'm a highligher and foundation fan - so this vid was very encouraging and interesting to watch. Thanks...froma new subscriber!
very informative video, beautifully presented, well done, if I may ask a question, would you recommend highlighters for mature skin, or would they show up problems more?
Definitely if you avoid the more metallic and glittery ones. Look for teeny, tiny pearl in a sheer textured base which blends very well into your skin
They show up more under flash, so make sure you choose the right product (not too metallic or glittery), its matches your skin tone well, you blend all the edges seamlessly and you apply it sparingly. When its done well it makes you look incredible in photos. I use it on all my celeb clients and I wore the becca product for my wedding! Lisa x
great video, I usually like to use a gold based highlighter (I use MeMeMe beat the blues) which is quite nice for my skin, I also have the frosty pink one by benefit but dont wear it much, now I know why :)
great tutorial but i have very dark circles (brownish ones...) and they are kind "deep" , so when a try to put some highlight on my cheekbones, my dark circles looks darker and "deeper" even with concealer... any advice?
@pomdamour Keep the highlighter away from the hollow under the eyes and focus on the outer edge of the upper cheekbones and brow bone - in a small semi circle lifting up and out. Then conceal your dark circles. When the highlighter catches the light it will draw attention up and away from the circles and detract from this area. Good luck x
very helpful, Lisa. You're simply great. Thank you :)

Again, thank you for making such informative, great, INSPIRING videos! I can never get enough watching your tutorials. x

So.... do you use contouring/bronzer AND highlight? Together? Or one or the other?
fashionballetNYC5 9 months ago
@fashionballetNYC5 they do two different things to your face so it looks fantastic when you use them together ...but you can use either on its own too X
lisaeldridgedotcom 9 months ago
Sorry, I am just confused about the order because everyone says differently: so the right order is: primer-foundation-highlighter-corrector-contour-blush but then where is the powder? It's important to blend the contour, blush everything into the foundation but won't the powder ruin everything and take away the slight shine? Sometimes I feel, now I got everything, and ...well no!

Hello Lisa!
Concerning the Becca highligher, when you said "dark" skin, how dark are you talking? I am NC 40-42ish in Mac, I am olive and medium tan to tan depending on the season. Do you think I should get the topaz by becca? Thank you!

benedettadc 1 year ago
@benedettadc you can either use a liquid/cream highlighter after your moisturiser and then buff your mineral powder foundation on top - the glow should show through. Or you will have to use a powder highlighter like Laura Mercier after your powder foundation application x
lisaeldridgedotcom 1 year ago
@lisaeldridgedotcom Hi Lisa, thanks a lot for your reply, and my apologies: I only saw it today, so here is my very belated little thank-you note!
I will try your suggestions... love your videos and your take on makeup! Have a nice Summer day (and more to come)-hopefully not too hot: we are melting here in Northern Germany!
benedettadc 1 year ago
The Becca highlighter looks great but it's too expensive. Does the body shop one have similar color & texture? I really love the glowy effect.
goddess002 1 year ago
@goddess002 the Becca one is the only highlighter i have found that contains no pink or yellow, its totally neutral and pale.. shame its so expensive : ( The body shop one is pinker than this but could look great if your colouring is pale with pink/blue undertones. The Boots No7 one comes in pink and warm apricot so you can choose which one suits your skin better and is a gorgeous texture.

I am using benefits high beam which is nice too.
littlemissfunky1 1 year ago
Lisa, I am quite pale with dry skin; would you recommend using the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl all over the face instead of a moisturizer under mineral foundation to get a nice glow (I use the Laura Mercier Loose Mineral Powder and it always looks a tad flat on my dry skin)? Thanks in advance x
annpchlr 1 year ago
@annpchlr I wouldnt use it neat all over your skin but you could definitely add some to your moisturiser and that would work well

Hi, I just bought the Elf All over Color Stick in Toasted based on your recommendation.
I was wondering if you think this is comparable to Becca's cosmetics in Topaz? Do they both give a subtle highlight or is the elf more "frosty?"

i still use revlon skinlights in peach, cuz i have medium dark skin.

Also, really amazing videos, I really like your philosophies on how makeup should mimic natural beauty.

very informative video, beautifully presented, well done, if I may ask a question, would you recommend highlighters for mature skin, or would they show up problems more?

Definitely if you avoid the more metallic and glittery ones. Look for teeny, tiny pearl in a sheer textured base which blends very well into your skin

glefeeo 2 years ago
They show up more under flash, so make sure you choose the right product (not too metallic or glittery), its matches your skin tone well, you blend all the edges seamlessly and you apply it sparingly. When its done well it makes you look incredible in photos. I use it on all my celeb clients and I wore the becca product for my wedding! Lisa x

great tutorial but i have very dark circles (brownish ones...) and they are kind "deep" , so when a try to put some highlight on my cheekbones, my dark circles looks darker and "deeper" even with concealer... any advice?
pomdamour 2 years ago
@pomdamour Keep the highlighter away from the hollow under the eyes and focus on the outer edge of the upper cheekbones and brow bone - in a small semi circle lifting up and out. Then conceal your dark circles. When the highlighter catches the light it will draw attention up and away from the circles and detract from this area. Good luck x

thank you ! i'll try this !
