im only 42, but saw the dead 50 times. and Im a professional jazz musician.
keep it up. its "jerry" enough. jerrys fluidity will never be equalled, but the videos are grainy as hell. you do justice to the solos and keep the ember burning, thank you
love the baltimore civic show, the deal passenger bew, terrapin estimated prophet eyes to nfa -> gdtrfb defiantly a great ex of 77' i've always favored this bertha as well, almost thought you were doin the bertha from kezar show from 73' on the same date which is one of my fav dead shows of all time
geez guys - just listen alot , play alot of scales around the chord progression, play with a metronome, play with the actual tracks, and yeah learn some basic stuff note for note but learn to play what you think not what runs you've memorized.
darks- your tone never ceases to amaze me. ive been tryin to get that jerry tone for a while..how do you set the EQ on your amp? and what type of dist/OD do u use when playing leads? thanks.
You say your not a musician or a guitar player...but I beg to differ. You know your way around the guitar quite well. You're a good player. More importantly, you have a huge amount of passion. That right there says it all!
Hey my friend, you were almost there. It was starting to sound good. Kudo's to you. You were probably on par to Jerry when he was checking out in 95' and I don't mean that in a bad way. Nice jam. Keep it up.
I've been working on Jerry licks since I started playing 30 years ago and I'd love to see some of the tabs you've worked out. You are way ahead of me in understanding this stuff. Do you have a web site for Garcia licks? Thanks. By the way, what a nice set up to have around the house. Sure beats video games.
You are exactly what we need: someone helping to keep this music alive. Someone to help pass it on down the line. Thank you very sincerely for your efforts.
I don't delete negative comments. So you stay put right here. And I also don't think you're a guitar player. I reject your charge. Take my vids off your "favorites" list (where they are right now) if you don't like 'em. And block me for good measure. Thanks for your comments!
I'm not a musician...HA...I'm not even a guitar player...HA, yet your playing like a 300o or whatever it is guitar...and youre ripping. 1 star for not telling the truth...just kidding...5 for being sick
Great, Hey, Could You post a video of how you play the solo of Dire Wolf? i believe it is original on a pedal steel guitar but you seem to have arrange it to electric with slide i suposse in your website, it will be great to see it because its the only dead song i havent find a way to play

"You gotta remember, I'm not a musician, I'm not even a guitar player"

Hmmm... for a non musician and a non guitar player, you've certainly got Jerry's licks down... on an Alembic to boot.
Pray tell, what do you do with the time you are not a non-musician, non guitar player?
Also... would you have a tabbed transcription of this beautiful riff?
Very, very sweet.

Great guitar!! Who made it? It looks just like Jerry's Tiger.

Sounds good, you should consider a loop machine to help show how to play leads. You can record your track and playback and play lead on top of it.

3:59-4:13 on this video is the lyrical theme I'm talking about. They are not unique to 5/26/77, all the '77 "Berthas," just about anyway, have them.
SmelOdies 5 years ago
Yeah, those '77 "Bertha" solos definitely have that lyrical theme towards the end earlier ones didn't have.
