@paulwheaton12 i am very interested in the kama skeeter is using. is there any way to find out where he got his from? is it one of the 5 dollar ones you can buy from amazon? any of the more expensive (and almost certainly higher quality) ones I can find are of a different style/configuration, with the blade and handle at more of an angle and less of a swoop to each other. but if he's using a 5 dollar one, then it's probably good enough for me!
Does anyone know of a person like this living in europe?
I would love to learn on the ground from someone with this level of knowledge and application. I've been thinking about asking to wwoof at Sepp Holzers farm, but I've heard he doesn't allow wwoofers. I don't learn from books at all, but I can imagine myself working through a field like this and within weeks I'd see the functions of all the plants. Call it muscle memory...
@AcidProblemChild You'll find your spot!!..i've heard about a seed bank that is in danger in Russia..that sounds like a great place to check out..I sure would maybe you can help them save that place!
It seems that getting a straight answer out of Michael is not an easy thing to do. He just begins to name another section of his weeds/plants. ;) Suffice it to say that Michael looks at "weeds" a little differently than most of us.
I'm so much looking forward to have my piece of land to do things like these, and maybe teach permaculture in Himalaya. Well someday i will build my dream. I still have to go through the college cycle though :/
This is a wonderful video. I love the extended time, as well as the work you did to title out all of the plants that skeeter is describing. Will be sharing this with friends!
@paulwheaton12 Well yeah, in his case, I guess. But in my garden that has recently been converted to pc practices, the weeds are real weeds. I have no use for them. I mean, I see them as great source of mulch now, but some of them are creepers, and if I cut them and pile them up, they are just going to resprout roots from every node. All I can think of is to pack them in a plastic bag and let them sprout and eventually ferment anaerobically until they become inert, and then mulch with them.
@turuanu I go weed by weed. And most of them are beneficial so I don't worry about them too much. Sometimes I want to encourage one thing and discourage another, so I will chop and drop - the drop tends to smother that which I discourage. So it isn't about sterilizing an area as much as encouraging a general direction.
this is cool, I love the overgrown jungle thing going on. But he talks about 100 different plants rather than just 1 cash crop, as if he is going to make as much money or more off of this. I'd like to know how much money he actually makes
Self seeded parsnip always seem to grow better than carefully sowed ones in my experience.

What about weed seeds, though? I guess in permaculture it's not a problem. Whatever grows back is chopped and dropped again?
turuanu 5 months ago
@turuanu the stuff that comes back from seeds is the stuff you want ain't it?

@turuanu that's a smart solution, we just put the truly noxious/invasive ones in the burn pile
