  • What is it with Indianapolis and severe thunderstorms this year anyway?

  • omg i've been there the tornado didn't do anything i've even been in that walgreens before

  • Oh my gosh. When that tornado hit the power plant I was at home the power went out and I stubbed my toe. :(. Did anyone live in Grand Oaks Apt? Or near? Remember the power went out? Ah, memories

  • Comin right at the bingo hall....yikes !

  • I remember watching that tornado from my house. A few days later we drove by a brand new truck driver training center off of Raymond St. that was destroyed.

  • ima count to three to give that tornado to go back up 1.. 2.. 3.. THEN I PULL OUT MY GUN!

  • I remember that tornado....it tore apart our burger king :( And my school gym :(

  • omg i remember this! this tornado came 2 blocks from my house!

if you think tornadoes arent scary, they are if they are close!

  • I remember watching this thing approach. My roommate and his sister and I decided to abandon the house and head for stronger structures. The storm passed just to the south of my neighborhood and dropped a tornado just a little east of me. NWS did a great job that day. If the storm would have been five or six miles to the northeast it would have been catastrophic.

  • Its hard to really chase tornados here In Indiana because of all the trees and stuff in the way..

  • the worst part about Indiana tornadoes is you almost never can see them clearly, they are mostly rain wrapped which makes them very dangerous. This was a very scary day.

  • this guy is an idiot, you can't see much of anything, and he can't keep the camera still at all....

  • I was at the 500 when this happened The race was called, and we were funneled to 465 Southbound. When we were at the Mooresville exit, that tornado spun up a few miles in front of us and dropped down from the sky.The perspective that I had of that storm was amazing. We had a small amount of sunlight shining on the storm from behind us, and the most brilliant blue twister split the sky open and touched down. I wish I had a photo or footage of it. Your footage is from an entirely different angle.

  • Oh lord. I live near Indianapolis and I've never seen a tornado, nor a funnel cloud in that place. Normally, tornadoes don't land in large metropolitans.

  • @FaithLynnGriffin This one hit on my 21st b-day while I was 5 months pregnant. It hit a nursing home about a 1/4 mile from my house on Keystone. It was very scary. The first time I'd ever really seen one my whole life. But a few years before that on 9/20/2002, I was in the hospital from having my son and we had some. I had to go in the hallway because of it. Other than that, yeah, it's pretty rare they hit in Indy.

  • that would be pretty cool to witness and be a storm chaser but also kinda scary :(

  • The tornado missed IMS by just 5 or 6 miles.

  • I rember that. I think my grandpa was driving train at the time

  • I remember this. I was at the 500. We got stuck in one of the track tunnels

  • I remember this. I was coming home from Michigan when the tornado hit during the 500 ... There were a lot of people just sitting outside filming it a few miles away from it.

  • At 0:36 to 0:39 there's a BP gas station!

  • @MedelProductions Good thing the tornado didn't hit the gas station, then our atmosphere would probably die.

  • Boy that's some Bad Lightning !!

  • I love tornadoes and their awesome power, but I'm not looking forward to moving here...

  • If that would have hit IMS, the fatalities would make Katrina look like a gust of wind.

  • @talladegajunkie1439 That's completely on the other side of town as IMS, but if it would've hit, it would've been catastrophic that's for sure.

  • @mikeshredder233 I intercept these things to warn the public of their existance and location/movement. I along with most (but not all) storm chasers have the utmost respect for what God can do, as we see it first hand far more than anyone else.

  • @instormchaser not unless its the people who loose there lives in the tornado they experiance it first hand far more than you

  • i was at the race

  • i remember this, im from indy and i was 9 years old, i was FREAKING OUT......

  • I remember this, the storm was the one that tore up Sarah Shank Golf Course, and all around south Keystone ave.

  • Wow, this storm went right by my old neighborhood (21st and Post Road).

  • Hey today is Saturday and a tornado, might happen right now theres rain right now but weres porbley get one.... :(

  • 0:17

  • i live in greenwood, indiana. im 14 almost 15 and have never seen a tornado. i've been in many tornado weather conditions, but have never seen one with my own eyes. i hope to see one some time cuz they fasinate me. all weather in general fasinates me and excites me. i absolutley love all weather except winter weather.

  • @brandonman24

I know what you mean. I've lived 30 miles west of Indy my whole life and never seen one... Back in 1964, a tornado came through my area, across the corn fields and out of town. Nothing since.

  • Indiana weather is impossible to predict

  • @cameojoey yeah, I know. I live just south of Oakland City, Indiana and the weather can go from 70 degrees and sunny to 55 degrees and hailing. Crazy Stuff

  • How do I not remember this? I live about 45 minutes from I-70 and Post. I would normally notice if a tornado was hitting Indy. Thats crazy!

  • I live in indiana at the top of the state

  • Got to love indiana weather. I remember this storm it destroyed my old neighborhood on try ave and madison ave. The year before this I was helping a friend do some work in muncie and we went over a flooded bridge in a uhual truck to check on a car we saw almost completely underwater. It was a good thing we did cause there was a lady that couldnt get her door open. So I got out and forced the door open and got her out. It was a good thing the car start to float off the bridge 15 mins later.

  • Pretty good video but they were a good mile and a half south of the tornado after crossing Washington street and that one guy acted like it was coming towards them. They should have parked at the police academy and gotten some much better video of it. And yes, I've been through a tornado. The September 2002 tornado so I know about the winds and danger.

  • I hate Indiana because we get a fairly good number of tornadoes but the storm cells that produce them make it so dark they're almost impossible to see 90% of the time.

  • usually when you cant see them...they are rain wrapped tornadoes.

  • LegalizePsychedelics dont hate Indiana because the tornadoes we have here do no damage to our state. Thank you for your time!!!! -Hsbff1

  • lol I really didn't mean I hate Indiana as a state, more so I meant I hate Indiana as a state to see tornadoes in. I'm born and raised in Indiana so I have respect :-)

  • @LegalizePsychedelics ohhh haha my bad im just a kid well im born and raised here too :))))

  • I remember that day - I was an hour and a half away from that and they announced there was no place safe, Warnings and touchdowns were reported everywhere to the west / northwest of Indy back to Illinois. I just wanted to go somewhere and eat figuring my town would be gone when I got back. Well nothing happened.

I did get stuck on I -74 by a tornado on March 20 1976 at Ogden, IL anyone remember that? It's the only one I ever saw in person. I was 12 years old.

  • I was in Thornetown,Indiana that day,and E-mail me here on You tube if you want to hear the story

  • i was in this i remember being in the crawlspace

  • I wish I could go back and relive this day. It was one of the few actual high risk dates issued by the spc. This date is very important for Indiana Tornadoes. I hope that the 2010 storm season is like 2004 and 2008.

  • you all are crazy as hell i was at work when this hit in beechgrove. it was right behind our work at the school i used to attend like i said your CRAZY

  • Me (father) was with my 3 teenage kids at Kerasotes Theater Southern Plaza at I-465 & US-31. Ironically we were watching "The Day After Tomorrow"! The tornadoes had just went through Los Angeles in the movie. Then several people got on their cell phones and immediately started leaving auditorium. Then they said tornado. Small tornado went through my neighborhood on 9/20/02. So i was freaking. I went out and looked outside. There was the big dark V in the sky to the west toward SR37.

  • This was a Sunday evening. I live just behind the church and a couple of houses north. My sons and I were in the basement...one of the most terrifying moments of my life, to be sure

  • I've noticed during every storm chase video, the common sense gene gets turned off and people start yelling really silly stuff.

  • Haha I am from east central Indiana aka redneck USA. I got this video after watching several other Indiana tornado videos. This is the first I have watched that hasnt had some redneck screaming "TORNADER"

  • I was inside the circle center mall when this happened.

  • I was like a mile away from the tornado and i was alone babysitting i was 15 it was so scary i had gotten the kid i was babysitting and got him safe and went outside to check it out thats when i saw it and heard the sirens and i ran in and took cover. my mom and sister came home and found us still in the closet.

  • I was in kindergarten and I woke up when the teacher was pulling the cots up and waking all the kids. We sat in the hall way listening to the radeo. I was too tired to be scared and I was the calmest one, one of the teachers went to the store and came back soaked with a whole bunch of groceries. later on my dad realized he had left our dog outside at home, buth when we got home he was safe sitting in his dog house. the tornado had gone right down my street and knocked over my favorite swing set!

  • Thanks for the comment " I was in kindergarten"

You just reminded me how old I am- :)

  • i remember its was so rainy that day i was only 5 and this big lightning strike ilt up the sky and we were next to the tornadoe when it destroyed the macdonalds that we were eating at we ate in the parking lot when the tornado hit the macdonald next to us i almost pissed my self it was so loud!!!

  • this was the fun day of my life

  • I was heading up Mitthoffer going north right before 38th street and the tornadoe went right across me the debree from Finish Line warehouse was coming across the road too! but you could not see the tornadoe due to all the rain!

  • i was at the race that year, but we left right before it started raining.

  • wow i remember that day, i was on my way home from Michigan and the damn thing was near us, what luck! Anyway, we were on 65 southbound, and we came 1/2 mile from the thing. Scary stuff! and great video man.

  • haha i remember hearing about that i live in sullivan so i live less than 2hours away

  • hahahaha i love our state. but the weather is like a child with learning disorders.

  • haha thats the best way anyone could put it lol

  • same.

  • i was at that it sducked ass

  • me too

i remember that day very well

  • Wonderful comment on the type of thunder on the video. I've always noticed that myself, but I haven't found to many others that have. Tornadic thunder is no doubt different than that produced by 'garden growing thunderstorms'. You are obviously very weather savy. Thanks for the vid!

  • i t5hink my friend chelsea was at the race

    but we were like 7

  • ha I was at the race that day. As soon as they stopped it on lap 180 or whatever, we got the hell outta there

  • wow when was that i probably was young

  • Our house had a little damage from this tornado, we lived right near Sarah Shank GC when this happened.

  • Comment removed

  • Rather interesting, considering that this was a Sunday.

  • i remeber a another one hit at madison and asomething that is the one im thinking of it made the power go of

  • i remember i was at the race too. I lived in speedway and remember hearing the sirens as i was walking down crawfordsville road to get the the house. it was crazy!

  • my birthday is on may 30th!!! shit

  • I was at the race this day. As I recall they red flagged the race at 180, and then came on the PA system, "THERE IS A TORNADO WARNING FOR MARION COUNTY, LEAVE THE GRANDSTANDS NOW."

  • This hit our house. We lived without utilities for 2 weeks and cleaned up for mos. Cower for your life in one just listening to everything slapping your home and any moment a board/car could fly through your head - you won't find yourself saying "cool", you will be facing a death of being torn apart or impaled. Complete sense of helplessness. Tornados = tears & proof that gods are man-made illusions. I had less fear being robbed at gunpoint than quivering during 2 tornadoes in the last 10 years.

  • weird. i dont remember that, probably due to the fact that i was 6 years old.

  • That was an interesting day. I'd just graduated from high school, and my sister and I were at a friend's open house. We heard a tornado could hit nearby in about 15 minutes, so for some dumb reason we decided to drive home quickly instead of staying at the house. (It's always smarter to stay inside.) So we leave his house near the Speedway and get stuck in horrible race traffic. We get routed around the city for 90 mins and my sister sees a funnel cloud a few miles south. Should've stayed put.

  • I think "crack no roll" is normal in any thunderstorm if you are close enough to the strike.

  • I used to live in Indy but since moved away. I heard there was another tornado that hit Indy in '02, I believe it came from Greenwood up into the Southport area, tore up some houses off Epler Av. and even destroyed the Pier 1 imports of Greenwood....anyone have a video of that tornado?

  • I remember that day i was with my dad and then we got in our car to leave but the walkways and driveways to go out were filled with people so we just got out and chilled with them that was a fun day chillin with all the people there it was all just waiting for it to be over, lol GREAT TIMES AT THE TRACK!!

  • tornado hits the power plant i never seen it

  • lol gas was 1.60 xD

  • i live there anit that scarey

  • I took some pics of this. The aftermath, though. The Bob Evans sign was knocked off, and put under the overpass. Also did extensive damage to a trailer park near there. (On E. Washington)

I have a vid of the Good Friday hail storm. Not as spectacular as this one, though. :)

  • NO WAY! This is GREAT! I was told no footage existed! I was also outside when this was happening, staring at it like an idiot.

  • lol that guy was excited when he saw the power flashes u could hear it in his voice

  • I was at the Indy 500 when things strarted getting bad! My wife was soooo pissed at me for the condition I was in but we survived.

  • Omg I was outside when this tornado hit =O I was in shock =O

  • I remember this day.. People where all running back to their car from the track.

My Grandmas house got plowed by that tornado. Came right off the interstate.

Me and my Dad went to get food.. yeah the sky look awful from the Northwest side :/

  • i was on the corner of southport and us 31 watched the whole thing develop. It was coming from my southwest going northeast. Watched the whole tornado cross over north of me bunch of transformers blowing up. My friend got much better video of it, but has failed to ever put it on here. Hit my mother in laws backyard in the neighborhood off of troy and 65

  • lol that is my birthday and i live ner indianapolis!

  • i was 3 when this happened :O IT WAS Not COOL SWEET OR FUNNY :O IT CHANGED MY LIFE D:

  • I remember driving home from Milwaukee that day....LMAO! Is it true for anyone who was at the race that you could see it on the ground in the distance?

  • My cousin Michael from califrnia was in town for the 500 then. He's never been back. He told me he's never seen it rain like that day.

  • I remember this too.... Except I was at the race.......... It wasn't bad at the track, but when we drove back home, we passed by some houses that were screwed up pretty bad...... This was the middle of the day.

  • omg i rember ths i was sleepng and i heard a big thunder, i woke up and i saw a funnel, damn :O

  • wow...i definitely remember this. my dad, uncle, and cousins were driving back from the 500 and we went off I-465 onto post road to get home...damn, i never really realized how close the tornado was to my house.

  • I live less than 3 miles from were the tornados hit. I grew up in the houses right off 38th mitthoeffer. It also hit my daughters school John Marshall Middle School. It was some scary stuff. The same exact place was hit a few years back.

  • COOL

  • thats not cool its not funny

  • thats awesome

    i so remember this

i didn't even know where they were until i heard the guy say "post, just north of 10th street"

thats right near warren central and i noticed some of the landmarks

    sweet

  • wow thats boring, but i remember dat storm, lol i was 9 years old

  • ya i rememba that storm, me and my mom were on the highway and a funel came down then went back up then the storm dropped a tornado, ya, it was wierd

  • Oh good hell

  • My husband and I were at Methodist where his grandmother passed away that night. We had to take shelter I don't know how many times. It was definitely a wild day to say the least!

  • You american guys are so funny

  • dude i totally saw this! i was coming home to lawrence from beech grove and passed by the funnel cloud. scared the shit out of me

  • Did I see a gas station selling gas for $1.84??? holy shit!

  • My girlfriend bought us Indy 500 tickets for graduation. It was the first time for both of us and it was something we'll never forget. Stayed at a Days Inn right next to a truck wash and a strip club...gas station across the street. We were at the track but one of the many tornadoes that day hit the gas station, tore its roof off and also the McDonalds and Waffle House across the expressway. At the track it was like the freakin running of the bulls....never been that scared in my life!!

  • dude i was there i was soooo scared

  • pretty sure this is the one where i was at work at a movie theater on the south side. we had to keep everyone in the theaters (because that was apparently the safest place) I think channel 13 caught the tornado on one of their traffic cameras. I would really like to see that video again.

  • oi yeah i def remeber this little event

  • I was at the race that day too and remember going under the grandstands after the race and then walking to our car outside the track. The sky was so dark and scary.

  • Yay! I was at the 500! It took us four hours to get home; we had to keep pulling over because of tornadoes. We had to drop people off in Beech Grove, Lawrence, and Plainfield before heading home to Lafayette (where a tornado also hit). But... yeah, best Indy 500 ever! The best part was the announcer at the 500 saying on the big intercom to 400,000 people: "There are tornado warnings -- PLEASE EXIT THE GRAND STANDS!"

  • YAY that happened on my birthday!

  • I remember that tornado! I live in Tipton, and I couldn't keep my eyes away from the weather channel!

  • Dude. I was practically in the middle of it between Indianapolis and Greenwood. I was coming home from the Indy 500 that year. AWFUL STORM, and the stores were wrecked!

  • I remember this day well, as later that night an F-3 hit Peru Indiana. A Co-worker who lived approximately a half mile from my home, had her home destroyed. Other homes were damaged or destroyed that night. The following is not a complain, but simply an example of this storms power. A half mile away from the storms path, my in-ground pool became a catch basin for insulation. My backyard had siding and roofing with the nails still in it laying about. We were lucky that night, no one was killed.

  • I remember dis day-I know this sounds fat but we were n tht Pizza King train station that day-scary as hell

  • Interesting part you point out about the Lightning i want to know more about that :3

  • i remember a f-4 hitting the kansas raceway in kansas city kansas on may 4th 2003.

  • I remember that, too... I was in the basement of a friend's house. Needless to say, I was freaking the f$%k out.

  • That was the weirdest day of weather I can ever remember, and I live in Wichita, Kansas so that's saying a lot. I remember running to the car after the race and then listening to the radio trying to avoid the tornado.

  • I was in the tornado it rip the roof off the mc dondals where I worked at I was 16 when that happened

  • i was at the race track that day

we were very lucky it wasn't a direst hit on the speedway

  • it came very close to hitting downtown

  • holy shit!! lol

  • omfg i remeber this D:!!!!!! we where playin naruto :P!

  • i remember that tornado!!! i that's like right by my house. i was at my cousin's though.

  • ITS TWISTER!Just need some flyin cows tho..

  • thats a power flash its a tornado, thats what they look like! yeah were in front of it too. are we really lol?

  • hahahaha post road is my hood 10st

  • Since when do tornados hits metro areas? Wow, I was living in Colorado when this happened, I heard all about it. I guess it was one of the worst storms in years.

  • I was 8 and I remember riding in my car from a picnic and i was so scared!!

  • i was riding in the car for like an hour that day. wow! i was soooooooooo scared! the sky was pitch black at like 6:00PM!!!

  • awesome video/ chase, sorry if i gave you problems on your other video.

    awesome!

  • i was on my way back from florida to fortville when i happend to see this...i was scared and excited at the same time.

  • beautiful indeed. who's your mate? he sounds a bit edgy hehe

  • I was so freakin scared that day ! The tornado was down the street from me !

  • I know I was scared.

  • Wasnt there one that day that hit the southside area also?

  • This tornado tracked from south of the airport across the south side, ENEward to where we intercepted it then continued a few more miles near Cumberland and Mt Comfort Airport. It was a single tornado until it got to the east side where there were several at the same time.

  • I took a picture of the "southside" twister that day ... it wound up running in the Indy Star. One of the wildest things I've ever witnessed in my life ...

  • Indeed it was a crazy event. Of all the tornadoes I've seen and chased, that's the first and only time I've ever pushed my luck and gone for an urban intercept. Normally I break off a chase if it enters an urban area, due to lack of visibility and traffic... too much danger of getting caught in the wrong spot.

  • That's kind of what happened to me. I was on my way home from the 500 and was listening to WIBC's coverage of people calling in where the tornado was. I had a map in my lap and knew I'd be cutting it close to making it through on I-65. Another minute quicker and I'd have been toast.

Instead, I wound up with some pretty nice photos of an F3.

  • at 01:01-01:03 the guy sounds like he's using the toliet when he says: "Power Flashes! Tornado onthe Ground!"

  • lol

  • This is a fantastic video.

  • I remember that day.

I was on the west side near the speedway all we got was hail thankfully

  • Rock ON! I remember this- my husband and I were a step ahead of the tornado as we came back from southern Indiana that day.... we were never so glad to get home!

  • That tornado almost hit my little brother's Elementary school!

    God was watching over him

  • Comment removed

  • *shakes aead* that day was messed up! i was at mi g'mas house and i just left from helpin my great grandma park cars...a tornado touched down in northern marion county and i saw it!

  • if this was the day that the bankone tower got hit i remember seeinf the tornado,it was crazy

  • Are you talking about the side of the building getting torn off? I don't think that was when it got hit. That happened a few years later- 2007, maybe? Someone will remember. I was definitely in college when that happened.

  • (And I was in college from 2004 to 2008, sorry, forgot that detail.) That storm was pretty big too!

  • i remember dis da 500 got delayed & all dem ppl had 2 leave wen da warning went off...crazy, but it barley rained or thundered @ my house

  • Wow, I hope you really don't believe you spelled any of that correctly.

  • Dude! Shut the fuck UP about people's spelling. I hope you know that your usage of the period and coma need work on pal. You jackass.

  • i remember this damn it was crazy

  • I remember this! I actually live off of the exit they got off of. its days like this that make me really nervous.

  • we were pushing cars off the track when it was announced on the p.a for everyone to take cover...man what a day

  • i remember watching this go through the city live on channel 13 news

  • i worked at a hospital and we received about 20 patients from a nursing home that the roof was ripped off of. that night was a mess. lots of damage. cars were upside down, apartments buildings top floors ripped off, huge trees uprooted, etc. and they say tornados don't hit major metro areas. LOL

  • I was at the 500 - we stayed underneath one of the tunnels beneath the track until the worst part of the storm was over!

  • I live really close to where that happened. My dad got it on video.

  • is this in speedway? i live in a town right next to it. and thankfully my town wasnt hit.

  • This torando tracked from south of the airport across the south side and over to the east side. Speedway is on the near northwest side. It passed about 5 miles south of Speedway.
