  • The last one = goose dance

  • Comment removed

  • So, I'm trying out for drum major next year, and I think you guys definetly helped me find a bad ass salute:) Thanks you guys<3

  • As long as you don't mind, I'd like to use the second one :D Thanks

  • naruto much?

  • why they wanna salute with these patterns

  • I love you.

  • I always heard that the salutes should be between 4 and 8 counts.

  • @Kikikay0010 4-8 counts? noo thats way too short

  • @richyg1299 Noo...that's what our judges told us. And our band director.. he's a "short-and-to-the-point" guy. I like making mine about 8 counts. 8 for the "strut," 8 for the salute. (:

  • Are you a corps of power rangers?

  • Very cool:) I just made a combination of Ashton's and Keaton's. I did make sure to forward your video to the band and give you full credit though:) Thanks a bunch!

  • I was told my my director that they are supposed to be about counts. Sometimes judges will take points off for a salute too long.

  • Nice length! It depends on the theme of the show for a more dance-ish one. And watch that your palm isn't showing so much, but good over all :)

  • I like the second one! Can I use it? :D

  • 0:03

  • i'm using one of these as well. if you don't mind. ha. thanks for the ideas guys.

    kierstin- west shamokin drum major

  • to be honest, im suprised seeing a homie doing a MARCHING BAND SALUTE XD

  • @HeEm1215 also what does it matter if they're in band they have good salutes plus it says they're drum major salutes and you kinda have to be in band to be a drum major. I don't think they were making them just or fun.

  • @HeEm1215 I think that some of them are too long but several aren't. You generally want to keep your salute 10 seconds or less. You don't want to give them your visual dissertation. A few were too long, but I know for a fact that the second one was 10 seconds or less and that one was fine. You want to keep it short and sweet but that doesn't mean it has to be simple.

  • Ahh, was not expecting that kid to jump out of no where in the beginning and make me shit my pantss.

  • Well I think they look sweet! I took the idea of one of them and modified it to make it my own. Good job guys! =]

  • they are TOO long and its not a dance judges like it short and are yall even in band?

  • oh my gosh. ok i live in idaho. and i dont think there's a limit here for how long they have to be...but my school is known for our awesome salutes because our's are always really kinda out there and not just a simple hand to the forehead and down again salute...i'm totally using the salute at 0:50 for our show this year because it totally matches our concept! :) THANK YOU!!!

  • @DCInternationalfan Actually, they are not awful. These types of salutes are highly preferred for drum majors in North Mississippi. You should learn about different styles and what is "good" for that region before you label good or bad.

  • whats a salute? a way to show the judges that your band is ready. What is dancing? A way to show off your arrogant ass.. judges dont care about all that junk!

  • @molecular360 I think you'd be surprised if you heard my drum major's tapes, mine and my students, of nearly a decade of what is accepted. Some of these salutes would score well in a competition.

  • As good as those were I got a SERIOUS power rangers vibe outa that

  • the second guy is like my friends salute

  • 1st guy looks like a cheerleader.....

  • Rolled up jeans... Seriously?

  • actually, all of them are good length, really. a good one is between 8-16 beats. and these are all very entertaining and nice to watch ..kudos to you guys.. awesome

  • i like the guy in the white t-shirt's second salute.

the third guy was just plain awful, i'm sorry.

  • If you count the salutes in seconds, they are really between 4-9 seconds. I think they are a nice length. While it isn't an extremely important to have an extravegant salute, you don't want a "lame" one. I personally like these. Good job guys :)

  • does anybody else power rangers in this or is it just me.

  • A band does not have to have an amazing Drum Major Salute to be a "cool" As long as you can lead the band to greatness thats what matters. And As long as your band sounds good. Thats what matters.

  • is the black guy gay?

  • Besides the critiques of the other I must add that yes it's better to stop a salute on 4,8,12 or 16 but short and simple isn't always the best way to go. Competitions I have been in also count the salute as a general effect score if the crowd does a cheer for your salute. I have seen it done with my Drum Major when I was in 9th grade. Now none of the Drum Majors do anything special and haven't heard anyone cheer for a DM in a while.

  • they're good. the sort of salute you do signifies what kind of band you're apart of. short and sweet salute isn't always a cool band.

  • What is this some anime shit? You look like douchebags.

  • i agree with most of the comments already in saying that these salutes are too long!! although a few were really cool and entertaining you really need to keep them short and sweet!!!

  • Well we have two salutes the one for getting award which is short and the extremely long and extravvegent one where I actually use years of Tae Kwon Do and run up two other drum majors and flip off them... ya its pretty awesome and a bitch except we didnt think this through cause we were tuxs and figured we would rip them so toned it down. :(

  • as long as you are not playing with drugs, keep doing this.

  • Are you trying to dance, secret handshake (with yourself)? these are really long.

  • Am I the only one or did the kid in the beginning scare you?

  • the dude with the white shirt has chicken wings. Tuck your arms i for the Attention command.

  • I think this was awesome. You put some creativity into making this and there's nothing wrong with that. However, they are a bit sloppy. The palms of your hands during the last count, shouldn't be showing. And you might want to look into someone showing how to do a proper Order Arms. And there's nothing wrong with the length of them. I attended DMA in '07 where one of the staff showed us a 20 count salute. It was amazing. As long as it's done properly you'll maintain the audience's interest.

  • Nice!

  • bahaha... the last one was epic

  • Your salute is wrong. You are not supposed to see the palm of your hand when you go into your actual salute.

  • @sexy19red are you guys all drum majors??

  • I don't give a shit what these people say! Those salutes were awesome! Nice work!

  • WTF is this shit? its almost disrespectful.. this must be some dumb ass American cadet acntict.. one thing. ur arms must be tight by your sides.. two. a salute the count is (up.2.3.down) not dance dance give the finger slap Ur titties salute then pop Ur chest like a girl... u disgrace the salute.... l3rn 2 play

  • @CrazeKillen learn to spell

  • @PurpleOfTheRose maby latter ;)

  • @CrazeKillen :P

  • @CrazeKillen I think you need to learn how to type. These types of salutes are highly preferred for drum majors in the North Mississippi area. I do not know where they are from, but you should learn about different styles and what is acceptable for that region before you give advice.

  • @TxRaider13 did we realy have to bring race into this?

  • @TxRaider13 why would you say somthing like that. thats just horrible

  • Evan is down with it

  • most of these are too long. i've always heard that the salute should be 8 counts max. some of them have a lot of repetitive motions, too, so they're less interesting than they could be.

  • I'm white but the Black Kid ownd ass.

  • the 2nd is the best:P

  • Those are cool, but maybe you should just use them for football games and do something more simple for contests.

  • I like the last one and the 2ndd 1

  • do u think they would actually allow these salutes at a competition??? lol

  • Yeah, guys, were not in Britten. The palms really need to come down so we don't see them. Other then that, they are pretty awesome. Just try to keep it 14 counts or less, so the audience doesn't get bored.

  • cool stuff, except for one thing.

Don't show the whole palm of you hand forward like that. Your hand show be predominantly straight, with preferably a little bit turned down, to show the back of the hand.

  • God I wish we did competition band

  • this is so sick! dont listen to all the hater comments....

  • Those are not salutes, that's choreography.

  • I thought this was :] pretty cool. and last time i checked they don't deduct anything. -_-

  • If it makes any difference at all, I think the salutes were great! :D And I was told that the salutes could only last for 12 counts, so you dummies are getting worked up over nothing! Great job you three! :P

  • Since our band doesn't compete and we don't have judges to worry about, I'm tempted to use part of one of those. But some do look kinda silly....

  • Those are really long salutes. >_>. They look like stuff chinese people would do. :D.

  • Ghey

  • dddddamn youtube comment douche bags callllmmm downnn. they just made a video of their salutes and you act like they just called your mother a fat whore. it's not that epic!!! guys, there was silly lookin stuff in there but there was also cool beans stuff in there that i'm using for my salute for drum major tryouts. ignore assy yotubers they just need a midol. at least your nt doin single ladies like i saw one peron do...yikes

  • I like how you dont actually focus on the salute. NOT. It's supposed to be 3 counts. Not half a count. Stop doing flashy moves.

  • Black dude always does same thing with his hand

  • hahaha

  • @firelarmfreak98 not to mention it looks stupid

  • i like how the second guys ends :D

  • Whats up with your arms in attention. its so high...

  • Freaken amazing! This is exactly what i've been looking for! xD

  • there's a fine line doing drum major salutes and looking like a power ranger

  • Dude, ours this year was AMAZING, our theme was like Africa and our drum major tuxedos had leopard print like capes and cuffs and vests. They break danced... not sure what I will do next year.

  • That is amazing. Purely amazing.

  • Um you should think about doing salutes that are marching band type and not tying to dance

  • yikes this is hard, but i think i may have narrowed it down three that i like, so we shall see, tryouts are this week :) i'm readdy

  • fucking bandos.

  • @Bah3932 ahha ya. good one asswipe.

  • @krissiexteenie

someday you'll grow up, look back at this video and realize how mind-numbingly retarded and unbelievably lame things like this are. these people are the ones that give marching band and its members a bad name. no one gives a shit about your stupid salutes, you just look like a tool, and everyone in the school is laughing at you behind your back. be good at something worth being good at, not ten seconds of useless pageantry.

also, your username is krissiexteenie. ha.

  • dude roll your pants down, while you all look incredibly queer doing this, you look the most queer... whoever you are...

  • Hey, I just want to say thanks. I'm only in eighth grade and I'm trying out for high school drrum major. They made me come up with my own 16 count salute and I was freaking out, but you guys are awesome and saved my life;)

  • Power Rangers!!!!!!!!!

  • Ya'll did a great jod, very creative! :)

  • omg. we had drum major practice today, and well.. i didn't like my salute veyr much, compared to others. and i happened to see this, and realized, "wtf? everyone's salute came from this video!" i'm serious. one girls salute was EXACTLY like the 2nd guy. I was wondering why everyone was using the same moves. AND THATS WHY. AAH!

  • you guys look nice. i come from a hbcu marching ban so we dont do that. but i have been to alot of dci comps.

  • You all need to waste your free time playing video games like normal kids...your friends will thank you...but maybe those are the only ones left.

  • yalll look like the ninja turtles! wohoo!lol where yall just improving?

  • Those look really cool

  • too much!!! and why are your arms flared out at attention??? good creativity though.

  • A tip on editing if I may suggest. Some people may want to mimic your salutes. Why not perform them slower? Or perhaps another video on doing it in slo-mo.

  • That guy teeth are like the same color as the sun....

  • Okay, like some had stated: The salute should be short, sharp, and to the point. The DM is the leader of the band. The DM has to have the "I'm the best, my band is the best, everyone wants to be me or in my band" attitude. The long dances and silly moves, does not portray that. Stick to the 'short, sharp, and to the point' theory and remember: It's a salute..

  • i love this! haha nicely done

  • They were good, but a little long in my opinion.

  • its a salute not a dance. short and to the point.

  • @Gimpet14976 depends on how much personality you have. it can be as low as 8 beats, and as high as 16, and you are allowed to be as creative as you want with it.

  • @Gimpet14976 amen

  • @Gimpet14976 These types of salutes are highly preferred for drum majors in the North Mississippi area. I do not know where they are from, but you should learn about different styles and what is acceptable for that region before you give advice.

  • ITS MORPHING TIME!

  • ehhr the idea is to be quick, show them your ready and that your band is gonna knock them off their feets. and thats done with sharp and fast ones with a serious look on. and sure smiling is good after taking the shako off. but like

    0archwas says, they're too long.

    creative and good though.

  • stealing ur salute lol

  • ehh not bad but you guys should watch bds salute though and the cavaliers 08

  • Yall three deffinently have the best salutes I've EVER seen. Being drum major for my little high school band is deffinently my obsession. lol. I think you should let me "steal" an idea, got any tips? =]] Thanks =]]

  • how do you do it. i'm trying out for drum major and wanna try and mix up parts of each routines.

  • i like the 3rd guys the best

  • very good but try doing this step by step plz

  • greatly appreciated

  • very good luv it

  • coool

  • those are all way too long, short sweet and to the point is way more professional

  • did you go to SASI camp?

  • Freaking sweet!!

  • your palm shoudln't face out to guy #2.

    other than that sweet.

  • Badass!! =D

  • nice tutting. our drum major last year had a way sicker tutting salute though. wish i had footage of it

  • isn't this.. tutting?xD

  • Those are sweet as hell man.

  • this is poppin' lol

  • ah its all so superfluous! holy crap.

very nice if it were a DM only show. except i can see the palms on your right hands.

  • Great job guys. Want to come teach my drum majors?

  • I'm jealous.

I would never be able to remember all of that.

  • Those are sweet....but don't you think it's a little excessive? =P

  • ya.. its like 10 counts... its great and wonderful but to much, and the arm thing is over done. and try to end on a marching number. (4 8 12 or 16)

  • thats wats up yall seem like yall got it on lock...great

  • hey guys i love yalls salute very cool :D

  • Wow...the are really good. Our Director requires me and the other drum major to do a standard salute...

  • dude ilyke

  • these are way to Flashy!

    There cool though

  • my friend used half of the spinny salute in her tryout salute...sadly she didnt make it :(

  • lets be serious for a second:

    1. Some bands use "flashy" salutes for competition. Just because it's "flashy" doesn't mean you're not a "serious" drum major.

    2. This salutes are a bit, "crazy". I don't think flashy is the right word for it. But they might look better if they actually acted like they were performing rather than goofing around.

    A for Effort Though.

  • That wasn't very nice...

  • Your salutes are pretty flashy. I like em' though. I can't make up crap.

Although, you guys are showing way too much palm and it's not just the angle of the camera. Too much palm is bad. I'm sure you know this already.

  • quit being so rude

  • dude....I love DCI just as much as any other Hard Core Musician...but they're just goofing around.

  • the first guy does it the best

  • Great job, guys

    =]

  • Sweetness. I like you guys' salutes. :D

  • Great Salutes!

  • That's amazing. I'm stealing the third salute for my audition ;D

  • Me too! Our Drum major Tryouts are Monday!!!

  • Most judges deduct points for stupid moves like that. yeah its flashy and cool looking but thats not your job is it?

  • agreed.

  • Well, why not just make a less flashy one for competitions? You can make a flashy one for games and then make it really simple for competitions. That way, you can have fun when it's allowed, but when it's necessary to look serious, you can do so. [:

  • @0mansoon0 last time I checked, all the judges in our area want is flashy. so yeah maybe it's starting to be that way.

  • very creative, but you guys are focusing far too much on the "pre" salute, rather than the salute itself.

It is respectful to stay at your salute position for at least 4 beats, without showing the palm or thumb of your hand. This is the most crucial part to any salute. After all, salutes are for our veterans and armed forces, it is only proper that you treat them with such respect

  • it's pretty creative. I may have to steal some of your stuff, because I'm trying out for drum major, and we were told to get creative. thanks!

  • very nice salutes guys! not even joking my drum major audition salute was about the same as some of those lol

  • BAD ASS YO!!

  • haha thanks for the ideas...wont copy them cuz thats lame lol. but great creativity.

  • this looks just like tutting for dance, with a really sweet finishing touch, i love how all the salutes are so neat and how it transitions so beautifully

  • Meh, I think you all need to lighten up. My schools Drum Majors do both the traditional simple, and more "fun" salutes, it just depends on what we are doing at the time. For example, On halloween, we do a fun salute, as well as on Senior Night. In play off games, we do a more serious, traditional salute. Each has its merits, depending on the situation.

  • pipe band majors are the only ones with good salutes ye swing yer light weight sticks ye queers

  • a salute is a salute and i thought those looked pretty fun so keep doing your thing.

  • When making a salute, creativity & simplicity is KEY.

These are all almost the same idea and are too long.

Remember, the show is about the whole band, not just you and your "cool" salute.

  • how about you watch a U.S. Marine salute.

    now thats how its done.

and i did march drum corps too. now in the military.

  • this must be a high school drum major academy. nice job.
