Now I am not sure if it is true or not, but I remember seeing a child form documentary of this. I don't remember what it is called, but it has some historian guy named Doug Deeper in it...
This is easily one of the best documentaries I can remember, we recorded it on vhs when I was a kid and I used to watch it all the time. You are a gigantic bro for putting this up.
I love Brittanic, Titanic and Olympic and can't forget to Mention Cunards Mauretantia, Lusitania and Aqautania and German liners Bismark and Imperator..damn shame non of these survived to get birthed like Quuen Mary 1 in Long Beach Ca.
Yes it is. Both episodes, along with the doc "Beyond Titanic", are part of the "Titanic: The Complete Story" You can find copies on Amazon. Its a bit pricey, but the content, the information presented and above all else the survivor interviews make it a good buy IMO
It totally agree with you also. My Grandmother recorded this for me on VHS when it first aired in 1994. I wore the damn thing out :)
It's funny how nobody stopped and thought - "hang on, now WHAT IF she sinks? Only 1/3 of the people will survive!".... bloody nit wits. Never say never.
What caused Titanic to hit an iceberg and sink was poor management and protocol. That is the most simplistic way to put it. Lifeboats would never have needed to be used nor would the ship have struck an iceberg if the operations were managed properly. So much attention was paid to Titanic's size and grand fittings that the arrogance and the conceitedness of those that invested and designed her would not even contemplate something as simple as managing a pair binoculars.
@jeffbrister2004 When you do that you limit easy passenger access to different areas because you basically have all these sections divided up by steel walls. So the mentality was to keep these compartments limited to the lower decks so the passengers on the upper decks would have free movement without having to find their way over and around these huge bulkheads.
@LostWhiteStarLiners well for example if you put watertight decks below e deck.... you're only inconveniencing third class passangers, really. these people wouldn't be the type of people to complain about that kinda thing, anyway. if they had put watertight decks just under where 2nd class passengers were living i think that would have been ideal.
@jeffbrister2004 they wouldnt do that as they thought they didnt need 2,they thought the ship size made it unsinkable....aparently god himself could not sink this ship. lol - think god thought ill show them whose boss.
LostWhiteStarLiners summed it up nicely. Also bear in mind that when Titanic was built, Pirrie, Andrews, Carlisle et al. expected the worst case scenario for Titanic was collision with another vessel and/or submerged objects. Both were very common causes of sea disasters at the turn of the century and even before then. What they didn't anticipate was the type of collision Titanic had with the iceberg or the damage she suffered because of it.
At 0:55:10 that historian, whom I respect (and have seen a lot), makes one hell of an assertion. There is no guarentee in life at all. It is not certain that had Murdoch simply ordered hard over, and left the prop-reversal that it would have avoided the berg.
@CunningStunt777777 It would of helped, but I have serious doubts it would of missed completely, may of missed the first two water tight compartments, leaving only the others fill...which would of kept her afloat.
@tehXade Wrong, wrong, wrong. Were you listening closely to this Documentary? It clearly mentions Belfast, Ireland. They're even playing Irish music at one point. Type in "Building The Titanic" right here on Youtube. Look for "Lost Worlds: Building The Titanic (2007) History Channel". That Docu will give you the details from the Irish engineers on the drawing board to the crew looking at the infamous iceberg in fear.
thats weird you all mention how great it was how wonderful it was and several times where it was travelling to and how great americans are but really no one ever metiones that it was built in Ireland
The Allison's behavior is the most mystifying of all to me. I understand that they were frantic for their missing baby, but to actively decide to allow their 2yo daughter die because they couldn't find their son is baffling to me. Whatever grief and horror I might have felt in that situation, I couldn't bring myself to sacrifice my daughter's life. I might have to live with unbearable pain with the loss of my husband and son, but my daughter would still deserve to live.
I think the thing about Titanic-other than it sank on it's first voyage-is how many people could have been saved it they had insisted the lifeboats had been completely filled. Three small children is the same weight as one grown man.
The Captain Smith gets too much blame for this tragedy - I think most of the fault lays with the designers and builders. Also, the guy that was suppose to be watching out for Icebergs really let his fellows down I don't believe he was paying as close attention as maybe he should have been. However, I wasn't there so I can't really say one way or another who is to blame if anyone.
First of all, the Titanic was such a beautiful ship to be in. Suppose you were a first class passenger and of course paid a crapload of money, how long are you willing to stay on the ship to get your moneys worth? Just asking because Ismay was in such a hurry to get the ship to NY.
OK! I really need your help guys! I want to know the name of the song that start at minute 34:23 Please help.. Thank you. Nice documents btw, and thank you very much for sharing with us! :D
The collision would have been avoided if they didn't ignore the ice warnings and if they had enough life boats. But ismay was too selfish and the men in the macroni room told the Californian to shut up.
@Anjaani311 The largest reason for not bringing it up, is it is considered a grave site for the ones who perished when it sank. (Though they have disturbed and taken things many times over) It should be left where it rests. Even if it was brought up, the contact with the air would damage it even more and at a higher rate of speed.
@MsClaireLouLou That "documentary" (I use the term lightly in this case) is nothing more than an attempt to cash in on the success of Cameron's Titanic film. It came out in 1999 or 2000 if I remember correctly. Please don't put any stock into it because it's all hogwash. There is actual footage and photographs of the Titanic's name on the bow of the wreck and there is absolutely no "MPIC" to be found. What you saw in the other show was CGI.
@LostWhiteStarLiners Also in the other documentary did they look at the serial number on the propeller? To make sure it matched the titanic's? I'm pretty sure they did and they found out that yes indeed the serial number matched the one that was in the picture :D
@vcamnowaa Im not sure which documentary it would have been in, but yes, they have matched the number 401 on the propeller blades to period photos, proving the ship's identity.
@LostWhiteStarLiners If you do your research, you'll know that the olympic had it's propeller's damaged to they placed Titanic's blades on her. They also changed all other identifiable details Everything had to be switched from one liner to the other and visa-versa.
@Anjaani311 plus it would be kinda of a disresepctful thing to do. it's there as a reminder to those souls who lost their lifes on the icy cold night. It would be like pulling up the USS arizona out of pearl habor. It would be disrespectful.
I think that in commemoration of the legendary ship, an exact replica should be produced, but not sailed. It could be a place for historians and others. A ship that allows people to get a glimpse of the marvel, beauty, and sheer elegance of one of the most luxurious liners ever made. To this day, bigger ships have been made, but none as luxurious as Titanic.
Wow that was one of the best Titani documentries I have ever seen. Thanks for the upload. Having suvivors talking and accounts just brings the tragity into the human light. Thanks again!

The propellers didn't "burble" the water. There were only 37 seconds between spotting the iceberg and hitting it. That wasn't enough time for the stokers to reverse the engines.
Second, why the titanic is not reallly the Olimpic, the propellers could not have been physically removed as they had weighted tons and put on the Olympic.
that conspiracy is an insault and degrading to the people who died.
This video gives the impression that Cap'n Smith never had a bad experience at sea. In reality, he had been the captain of Olympic when she wrecked the year before titanic.
You truly are brilliant, you know that? This is my favourite Titanic documentary and its marvelous that I can watch it now in full, without having to pop in my dvd!

@23456789Alexis I think it's been determined that the Titanic broke at a smaller angle (around 11 degrees) than the vast majority of illustrations depict. They also determined that the iceberg didn't make one long gash, but instead made numerous dotted indentations along the hull.
It's heartbreaking to hear that heaps more people could have been saved...or that the whole incident could have been avoided.
