Yes...african music went to America with the slaves, and they got back caribbean music in West Africa in the 60's&70's with bands like the Orchestre Baobab...I've listened to a band in Senegal playing live "Comandante Che Guevara" in spanish to the audience on one of those top hotels by the coast without probably anyone really understanding the lyrics they were singing,...amazing.
