Pointe with overweight is basically a question of strengthening your body more and avoiding overexertion. I agree you will not see any large role in a ballet company if you can not work with a partner or "blend in", as ballet dancers are mostly supposed to be uniform in looks. The thing is, the legs of an overweight person are stronger than a skinny persons, since they need to carry more. It's simply a question of body strength to match, as in every form of dance. Only lifts would be harder.

the one person who said it should be wrapped around the ankle is incorrect ...sur le cou de pied is not a wrapped position....it looks like she is doing r.a.d frappes which are not wrapped i dont know about russian though.

i know Frappes are not a swish. they are a beat or a strike, because 'frapper' in french means 'to strike' :)

okay umm this is WRONG a frappe is supposed to be in sur la coupe de pied which means on the neck of the foot so her foot should be wrapped around the ankle and next time expert village! get someone that actually knows how to do ballet and isnt fat to demonstrate it

Pointe with overweight is basically a question of strengthening your body more and avoiding overexertion. I agree you will not see any large role in a ballet company if you can not work with a partner or "blend in", as ballet dancers are mostly supposed to be uniform in looks. The thing is, the legs of an overweight person are stronger than a skinny persons, since they need to carry more. It's simply a question of body strength to match, as in every form of dance. Only lifts would be harder.

it's not exactly traditionally to be skinny. i have seen the olden ballet videos..and there are a few plump ones as the lead dancers too

first of all this is not fouettes! and sencond she isn't even doing the frappes rite! gos i hate ppl who are doing an instructional video and the person who is teaching doesn't even kno how to do the move/step they are teaching other ppl!

ok, i see the point your trying to make. and fine, weight does have something to do with ballet like when the guy lifts you up, but thats just about it. she can do anything else a skinny ballerina can do. especially a simple frape.

yeaaa i was asking the same question where are the god dam fouettes? they are called frappes i dont think this lady knows what shes even talking about and firstable this goes for EMZRUCKO you have to be thin for ballet fat doesnt help u to be flexiblee if u know someon who iss hit me up cuz i want to know hahahah

does everyone who leaves a comment here do ballet, and is a girl (curiosity purposes)? i am.
btw, those frappes where nicley demonstrated. and i disagree with you thatregal, maybe the ones that you see on TV are skinny, but in my dance class, there is one girl who is a lttile chubby but she is an amazing dancer. Her feet are the most beutiful thing you will ever see. much better dancer than me. so weight has nothing to do with ballet. some stupid critics think it is . but we know its not.

she did not exactly did it properly. frappe means to strike yet she used to the word brushed, and it is wrong. and when u do a frappe and strike a floor, it should make a sound as u hit the floor.
about what u said about being skinny, yes i am skinnier than her but i am still considered quite fat. anyone who takes ballet classes can see that she is teaching the wrong things. it looks correct but like i said, instead of strike, she said brush.
