I heard this song first with Waltraut Maier, and she sings much quicklier and more vivid, so when I heard Renée, I thought it's rather slowly. But extremely (much too)slowly is Jessy Norman. I'm looking for Kathleen Ferrier to get the right way!
I'm so pleased to see this little glimpse of Monica again. I almost certain she was a finalist in Cardiff 19 years ago. The sopranos that evening were up against the "battle of the baritones". I thought she was lovely then and she is lovely now. A superb voice and presence.
What a class act! Just beautiful!

Isn't Salonen the most miserable-looking conductor ever?! Even Karajan smiled occasionally (well, maybe very occasionally!)
