  • beUTIFULL native indian american

  • thanks for the input! I've been dancing old style since I first posted.

  • How old is this footage? If these ladies were to dance now would it be considered old style? When is comes to old style and contemporary fancy, where do you draw the line as to which catagory you belong?

  • @waponswa Old style is more plainer in dress, but they use their whole bodies when dancing. Contemp style is fancier in dress, and they tend to mostly just twirl, kick, and spin. A good video to see both styles compete against each other is, youtube.com/watch?v=vESEkbE48dE

  • @Scabzilla49 But I've seen people mix it up, like an Ol'Contemp! lol, buh... I just remember how Shawlers danced when I was lil -90's-80's- and they danced just like Tawny Hale does.... Don't know if I helped you any...

  • @waponswa In northern powwows, like in Canada, some ladies tend to dance/dress like it was when Fancy shawl first came about; simple cloth/camp-dress with just a folded shawl draped over their arm. An their dance style is far more simpler and reminds you of a cloth/traditional dancer dancing jingle, minus the jingle dress. An a good video to see this authentic Ol Style is; youtube.com/watch?v=GP1Qm-x7dL8

  • native or non native all should be apart of the north american native culture. so grab your shawl and lets dance

  • Awsome!

  • Thank You for the nice comments and the names of some of the Ladies, You see alot of us still remember how great they all really are.

I think there was also an all around special there as well.

    Thanks again for nice words.

  • dang..this is a good video, cre cre,yvette,donetta...wow..haven't seen them dance in forever!!

  • Dance! lol

    We need more dancers.

  • i really wanna be a shwl dancer(but im only 1/4 native) would i be allowed to dance?

i know it might sound like a stupid question but i dont want to do the wrong thing.

  • well, as an european i find these dances really beautiful and moving, but what a pity for me not to know, to understand all its meanings, the signification of the voices, and what does mean each detail of the dress for example, each gesture and step in the dance.... i'm curious to learn more about it!

  • Uhm, it depends, some of the designs are well...just geometric designs, and for some families; the design on there outfits (regalias) could mean their names (Designs of butterflies, etc) from what I know off hand. As for the steps, they are/ could be telling a story, again, from what I know off hand.

  • thanks a lot!:)

  • they could also be the colours of their spirit name as well=)
