@eyesack9 as of 4.3 there is very little difference in the potential DPS of all three warlock specs .. even destruction is now viable. so until they buff or nerf one of our specs, just play what you enjoy (been a while since i've been able to say that)

I have a quick question for a great warlock like yourself. I've just recently hit level 71 on my new Worgen Warlock and was leveling as Affliction, the only issue I see with affliction at all level besides 85, is the mobs tend to die SO fast, that it's kind ofpointless? Destruction I do 4 spells in the matters of like 4-6 seconds (Including a 2.5-3s Soulfire cast) and it's over. Do you recommend leveling as affliction? If not, what DO you recommend? Thanks!

@scenexkills same advice, make sure you're not missing global cooldowns. even while running you can boost your dps by spamming fel flame until you stop running, then back to shadow bolt -> haunt > bane > corruption > ua > shadow bolt spam
I just hit 27 and I am following as many of these tips that I can for my level, but I am only 3rd on DPS charts. Will I see an increase as I get to higher levels? Or should I be doing something different?
@PerpetualSunrise because DPS fluctuates so much as you level and get different gear sets, most people don't measure it (besides twinks). At 85 however, Warlocks are amongst the top 5 consistently. It has been this way for about 5 years..
@PerpetualSunrise I have leveled from 1 ro 40 as an affliction warlock in the last week (19 hours so far) and i have been top dps in almost all of my DF groups (only losing to a warrior so far who was thunderclaping and outdpsing me by 20-40dps in mass groups), granted i do have al the herloom pieces. My recount reports have been 150-200dps in the 20's and in the 30's 200-300dps. Hope this helps

@AkaBuzkutz 8-9k dps is very low, most people including myself would think you are trolling. probably missing global cooldowns. even just spamming shadowbolt you should be 10k dps as long as you don't miss a cast. you cannot have pauses in between casting au contraire you must use a very spammy keystroke style, this is WoW after all.

@xibataa4 crit and mastery are both good for affliction. crit rates slightly higher to a certain point but haste is the most important. you want to aim for (raid buffed) 30% haste, or 2589 rating. achievable at t12 level of gear
so quick question mate....why is it you use bane of agony instead of bane of doom on your boss fights? doesnt bane of doom add more dps per tick? ....this has been like one of my many concerns...would appreciate a response ...cheers

well i test our 2 rotation....actually not a whole lot of diffrence...in 4 test on each we only was diffrent by less than 200dps on a TD so i guess its with w/e rotation u like better i took 3 your took one but it all based on the imps from the set piece and Bane of doom more than our spell rotation as the end all killer. my rotation just got lucky with procs on one because i hit both and pulled 16.7 the highest of all but as far as boss fight dps only diffrent was i used FF to reset UA.
@MCG55SS 200dps over a 10 minute fight is not to be ignored. refreshing UA with fel flame instead of using the gcd for something with higher DPET is a dps loss, simple as that.
whats the main point of drain soul at 25%. I see nothing about it increasing dmg on my talents or spellbooks the only thing on talents says it replenishes soulstones so why switch to drain instead of SB?
@xJon4492x two reasons, the tooltip states "If the target is at or below 25% health, Drain Soul causes double the normal damage. " and pandemic talent 2/2 which makes drain soul refresh UA on targets with less than 25% HP. this is why affliction is said to have the best execute phase in the game at the moment. my drain soul can crit for close to 100k during execute...
@Madoix1 just get full vicious/ruthless glad gear (371/384). it has all the correct itemisation on it already. get the spell penetration cloak. most gladiator warlocks keep darkmoon card on, because dropping a resilience trinket for such a massive dps gain is viable
also why not cast Felflame with haunt....by the time haunt cast bar is done the GC is done and u auto refresh UA. or the same thing with SB is UA times is low

@MrDreamalittle uhm u should learn your class Felflame doesn't refresh haunt it refreshes UA. If u use the cast time for haunt or SB and hit Felflame while u are waiting for the cast bar it will instantly send your cast spell and felflame at the same time so you willnot have to recast UA at all.
not being critical but why not do CoE while your SB is flying then haunt and do Bane of Doom while its flying then ustable Then corruption cuz by the time your cast bar for UA has done GC is done..reduces time between spells
@MCG55SS simply put in the 400 characters allowed here, the highest dps opener is shadow bolt > haunt > coe while haunt is travelling > bane > corruption > UA > SB spam. if you don't trust the theory, simcraft is best. but many theorycrafters including myself have already tested this. as sun tzu teaches the way is much easier if you are shown

the only thing i dont understand is how and when to use life tap. back in wrath we had to use it to keep up the life tap buff. but now do we use it when we're almost oom and life tap back to full or what?
@darknite121 yeah no life tap buff any more. "good" times to life tap: 1. after seed spam, 2. whilst all dots are up 3. when you anticipate overhealing (like you're 90% hp and you have hots on you). afflic has a lot more mana difficulties than destruction
@ExplosionZHurt I'm an iLvL 365 Affliction Lock aswell... I keybind and do pretty much everything you do... Idk why my DPS is so "low" though. It may not seem low to some, but to me it's low...
I don't understand how you can do 18-20k so easily in ZGs and stuff. But in ZA/ZG I only get around 16-18k, and I have to work up! My Stats w/ Fel Armor, Fel Intelligence, and Dark Intent alone is 17.11% Hit, 17.04% (not sure on the decimal but it's 17%) Haste, and 14.something Crit. I also am not sure on DoT Clippings (You left a link I know) but I'm confused on it... So when Corruption is ticking down at 5% i cast Haunt to refresh it. Should i let corruption go and re-cast? @Canyouseemyass at 370 ilvl you should be doing over 20k dps in raids on most fights. i'd need a lot more information or a worldoflogs link to see what you're doing wrong.
I'm not trying to bash your 20k deeps, I'm sure you're hitting it at points.. but to base it off what you're doing in random dungeons with the 3x buff.. nah bro.
@brettGORE 3x dungeon buff is a good measure to base raid dps off as you don't have a good target for di, no synergies, missing so many raid buffs. on my firelands fights i do about 25k dps. even on BAD fights (very heavy movement) i do 20k dps. search dreamalittle on world of logs if you don't believe me.
@brettGORE 20k DPS @ ilvl 360, "flying solo" (group buffs) in a dungeon even with 3x LFG buff is reasonable for affliction. we rely so heavily on raid buffs end game. i can hit 35k+ dps on a zandalari boss before when there is a good target for intent, i have focus magic, there is heroism. but who cares. look at the theory not the dps. i have ranked in the top 200 affliction warlocks many times on worldoflogs in 4.2, so i know my theory is solid and can enable the highest output for affliction.
@Shinzoken it certainly "feels" better to do as you say. but you will gain dps by casting corruption before unstable affliction. basically the time spent casting corruption gains you more dps than unstable affliction, which means that corruption should always take priority over unstable affliction if you care about maximising your dos (source: 4.2 DPET affliction simcraft)
@joshehutch saying things like "only acceptable on demo" is complete nonsense. many of the best warlocks in the world rocked full tier11 even throughout 372 in 4.1. four piece bonus was decent (shoulders never dropped for me in 4.1). also, ANY 359/372/378/391 caster loot with haste as a base stat for affliction is AMAZING as we cannot hard cap haste unlike other specs. and as far as your advice to go to bwd to downgrade my current gear... no thank you.

@damagepy I thought I'd go and check EJ just in case there were some under the hood changes I didn't know about to fel flame and i'd just flamed you (gnuk) for no reason. but, sure enough: "There seems to be a common misconception within the warlock community that Fel Flame should be used to refresh Unstable Affliction. As a basic rule of thumb there are only 2 reason to ever cast Fel Flame, these are:
During unavoidable movement, and when 4pc T11 procs (lol)
@damagepy using fel flame to refresh unstable affliction is absolutely the wrong way to use fel flame as it is a dps loss to do this. fel flame should ONLY be used in the following situation: 1. you are running due to a fight mechanic and you already have bane, curse and corruption on your target.
nice vid! i do about the same dps single target afflic or destro, a little more as afflic givin the situation...on patchwerk fights like baleroc i ended at 24k and 23 as affliction. now i have a question about haste plateus...raid bufffed i sit at 31 percent haste now 10m, should i still keep stacking haste or go for a secondary stat now???
@lui4789 there is no hard cap for haste and affliction but i haven't done the maths for gear levels over ilvl 380. i suspect haste is still the strongest secondary stat at your level of gear but honestly i have just been grabbing all the 378 i can and i have a mess of haste, mastery and crit and am still getting the occasional WOL placing. warlock gearing just isn't that diverse at the moment.
this vid is really helpful i don't know how to thank you enough, but for some reason im still only pulling 13-14k dps as an affliction lock with cds on a raiding training dummy >_< I'm clipping UA at around 2-3 seconds left and i use haunt on cd.

@ProAffictionLock using fel flame to refresh US is a BIG dps loss. this is absolutely not how fel flame should be used. use fel flame if the following criteria is met: 1. curse, bane, and corruption are on target 2. you are running 3. shadowflame or shadow bolt instant-proc aren't active

well i test our 2 rotation....actually not a whole lot of diffrence...in 4 test on each we only was diffrent by less than 200dps on a TD so i guess its with w/e rotation u like better i took 3 your took one but it all based on the imps from the set piece and Bane of doom more than our spell rotation as the end all killer. my rotation just got lucky with procs on one because i hit both and pulled 16.7 the highest of all but as far as boss fight dps only diffrent was i used FF to reset UA.

@MCG55SS 200dps over a 10 minute fight is not to be ignored. refreshing UA with fel flame instead of using the gcd for something with higher DPET is a dps loss, simple as that.

whats the main point of drain soul at 25%. I see nothing about it increasing dmg on my talents or spellbooks the only thing on talents says it replenishes soulstones so why switch to drain instead of SB?

@xJon4492x two reasons, the tooltip states "If the target is at or below 25% health, Drain Soul causes double the normal damage. " and pandemic talent 2/2 which makes drain soul refresh UA on targets with less than 25% HP. this is why affliction is said to have the best execute phase in the game at the moment. my drain soul can crit for close to 100k during execute...

@Madoix1 just get full vicious/ruthless glad gear (371/384). it has all the correct itemisation on it already. get the spell penetration cloak. most gladiator warlocks keep darkmoon card on, because dropping a resilience trinket for such a massive dps gain is viable

@MrDreamalittle uhm u should learn your class Felflame doesn't refresh haunt it refreshes UA. If u use the cast time for haunt or SB and hit Felflame while u are waiting for the cast bar it will instantly send your cast spell and felflame at the same time so you willnot have to recast UA at all.

not being critical but why not do CoE while your SB is flying then haunt and do Bane of Doom while its flying then ustable Then corruption cuz by the time your cast bar for UA has done GC is done..reduces time between spells

@MCG55SS simply put in the 400 characters allowed here, the highest dps opener is shadow bolt > haunt > coe while haunt is travelling > bane > corruption > UA > SB spam. if you don't trust the theory, simcraft is best. but many theorycrafters including myself have already tested this. as sun tzu teaches the way is much easier if you are shown

the only thing i dont understand is how and when to use life tap. back in wrath we had to use it to keep up the life tap buff. but now do we use it when we're almost oom and life tap back to full or what?

@darknite121 yeah no life tap buff any more. "good" times to life tap: 1. after seed spam, 2. whilst all dots are up 3. when you anticipate overhealing (like you're 90% hp and you have hots on you). afflic has a lot more mana difficulties than destruction

I don't understand how you can do 18-20k so easily in ZGs and stuff. But in ZA/ZG I only get around 16-18k, and I have to work up! My Stats w/ Fel Armor, Fel Intelligence, and Dark Intent alone is 17.11% Hit, 17.04% (not sure on the decimal but it's 17%) Haste, and 14.something Crit. I also am not sure on DoT Clippings (You left a link I know) but I'm confused on it... So when Corruption is ticking down at 5% i cast Haunt to refresh it. Should i let corruption go and re-cast? Got 370 ilvl but doing 12k dps hardly its kinda low i know i got %12 crit - is crit realy important for affiliction? What mostly need for nice dps?

@Canyouseemyass at 370 ilvl you should be doing over 20k dps in raids on most fights. i'd need a lot more information or a worldoflogs link to see what you're doing wrong.

@brettGORE 3x dungeon buff is a good measure to base raid dps off as you don't have a good target for di, no synergies, missing so many raid buffs. on my firelands fights i do about 25k dps. even on BAD fights (very heavy movement) i do 20k dps. search dreamalittle on world of logs if you don't believe me.

@brettGORE 20k DPS @ ilvl 360, "flying solo" (group buffs) in a dungeon even with 3x LFG buff is reasonable for affliction. we rely so heavily on raid buffs end game. i can hit 35k+ dps on a zandalari boss before when there is a good target for intent, i have focus magic, there is heroism. but who cares. look at the theory not the dps. i have ranked in the top 200 affliction warlocks many times on worldoflogs in 4.2, so i know my theory is solid and can enable the highest output for affliction.

the only thing i'd say is that i use corruption after unstable affliction since i think casting an instant cast after a cast is better
beside that, we have the same rotation, and i made it by myself XD

@Shinzoken it certainly "feels" better to do as you say. but you will gain dps by casting corruption before unstable affliction. basically the time spent casting corruption gains you more dps than unstable affliction, which means that corruption should always take priority over unstable affliction if you care about maximising your dos (source: 4.2 DPET affliction simcraft)

@joshehutch saying things like "only acceptable on demo" is complete nonsense. many of the best warlocks in the world rocked full tier11 even throughout 372 in 4.1. four piece bonus was decent (shoulders never dropped for me in 4.1). also, ANY 359/372/378/391 caster loot with haste as a base stat for affliction is AMAZING as we cannot hard cap haste unlike other specs. and as far as your advice to go to bwd to downgrade my current gear... no thank you.

@damagepy I thought I'd go and check EJ just in case there were some under the hood changes I didn't know about to fel flame and i'd just flamed you (gnuk) for no reason. but, sure enough: "There seems to be a common misconception within the warlock community that Fel Flame should be used to refresh Unstable Affliction. As a basic rule of thumb there are only 2 reason to ever cast Fel Flame, these are:
During unavoidable movement, and when 4pc T11 procs (lol)

nice vid! i do about the same dps single target afflic or destro, a little more as afflic givin the situation...on patchwerk fights like baleroc i ended at 24k and 23 as affliction. now i have a question about haste plateus...raid bufffed i sit at 31 percent haste now 10m, should i still keep stacking haste or go for a secondary stat now???

@lui4789 there is no hard cap for haste and affliction but i haven't done the maths for gear levels over ilvl 380. i suspect haste is still the strongest secondary stat at your level of gear but honestly i have just been grabbing all the 378 i can and i have a mess of haste, mastery and crit and am still getting the occasional WOL placing. warlock gearing just isn't that diverse at the moment.
