How to train german shepherd or any dogs to find illegal drugs like a K-9 police / sheriff dog

wat i do is i leave my german shepherd in my backyard, and let him sniff something random(like a brush with seasoning on it) and hide it in my front yard where he can't see it. then i take him on his leash and say "search" and within minutes he will find it. He always gets praised after he finds it. I can tell you this isn't the correct way to train a dog....

That is a DEA DUMB- ASS sniffing K-9. Used for sniffing out dumb-asses. Pours dog food every where then shows the dog where it is and thinks the dog has really done something. The dog should drop his owner off at the dog pound.

its abit stupid too because i was lookin because i wanna see how hard it is to train a dog to find a certain scent its easy for a dog to smell food when its hungry like we can always smell our dinners cookin from outside if we're hungry enuf so... that was a waste of time ...

congrats... you demonstrated your dogs natural ability to sniff out its food... which you "hid" in the open. This is in no way at all useful in training a dog to sniff out drugs.

what the police do is the get like 6 bags and put a ball that the dog wants and drugs in one of the bags, once the dog finds the ball he is praised and gets a little game of fetch.
