this video is incredible. unwound is one of my favorite bands, and I only wish I knew about them when they were touring. what i'd give to see them live...
aw man i was definitely at this show. just got dumb nostalgic watching this. first time i saw unwound it was because a fifteen show was sold out at i think the macondo. made our way over to the jabberhaw. this band changed my life. thank you for this video.
i think this is a couple tours after the fake train record. i remember going to an unwound show at jabberjaw around the time of the 3rd record and they opened with dragnalus and it was unexpected and mind blowing. I'm not sure, but this may be the performance.
It was in one of the worst neighborhoods out there on east pico... abandoned lots with hobos burning bonfires and shaking you down for money to guard your car. I remember one of my friends went to the KFC after a show and they had bullet proof glass between the customers and employees, with some rotating door to facilitate the transaction. Yeah, I so don't fucking miss LA... good riddance. Now I am such a dork, I go to LA for Calprog... well, Whittier...
Wow... this brings back a lot of memories. I don't think I ever saw Unwound at the Jabberjaw, but I must have seen Steel Pole Bathtub there 2-3 times. I saw Shiner there after all their chit got robbed from their van. I used to see Buzzo hanging out there... Ah, those were the days.
wow, two of my favorite songs by one of my all time favorite bands. this video makes me jealous, my unwound footage has stupid heads in the way. thanks eternally for posting.
Come on man. Please post the rest. I can't believe you posted more of the Cupid Car Club than Unwound. Who gives a shit about the dumb ass Cupid Car Club??? Unwound were the gods of Jabberjaw and of rock and roll back then. Post the rest. Puuuuhhhhlleeeezzze. Don't be a nazi. Be like Santa Claus. A giver. Not a hoarder. Fucking hell. Now you've had this here for a year. What are you waiting for? A UFO invasion? Give the people what they want or deal with the karmic consequences:ANETERNITYINHELL!
Utter desperation will make a man resort to ridiculousness. I am the living proof of this axiom. I already wrote thejacksaints a long time ago and asked nicely and said please and minded my manners and so forth and that got me exactly no dice so I'm trying the anything goes approach.
I know I said I'd post more and I will. It involves me renting a hi-8 to usb or firewire machine from a place downtown. I work 6 days a week, and have band practices after work so it's been hard to find the time to do it. I WILL do it, and I will make sure to email you when I do so you don't have to keep checking my account for new uploads. Fair enough? I have a second Jabberjaw show from unwound I filmed too.
Thanks JackSaints !!! Unwound is my favorite band of all time and finding live stuff of theirs is pretty rare. It's very, very, very much appreciated...
That's some great old footage! Was this '93/94? So glad I got to see 'em a few times back in the day. Now that Polvo's back together if Unwound were to reunite I'm not sure I could physically mentally or spiritually contain myself.
@thejacksaints -- do you have the rest of the show? please say yes. sounds like they were gonna go into "envelope" next.
all ourtimes indie rock bands can hide away. sit down in chairs and listen it. learn from this stuff and play real song motherfuckers! and stop playing shitty music
Vern was put on this earth to play bass. As a matter of fact, the whole band Unwound was sent from the future to give us a glimpse of what to expect. They were so far ahead of their time, Repetition will probably top the charts in 2015
this comment makes me smile. It helps me to realize that my complete obsession with unwound was not as crazy as I sometimes feel it was.
And you have to see them live to understand how amazing Verns bass playing is, I think. It doesn't translate as well on tape, but live it's like a punch in the gut.
This is astoundingly good stuff. Seems like Unwound footage is really rare - so THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this. One of my all-time favorite bands! Unwound was the real deal...
Damn, Vern looks to be in a trance. So am I after seeing this, thank you. It sucks Unwound isnt around anymore, because his music is really the only sensible response to the generalized insanity, blur and glut of Western civilization in its present state. What passes for rock music today compares to Unwound like a person casually masturbation while checking his emails to someone who really just wants to get loud, break stuff and fuck on the floor. This is the real deal, kids
This is what punk is.

i wonder if these little 18 year old kids realized, at the time, that in 2011 bands like these would be extinct?

@fattygoatshoulder right? now we're stuck with wanna be saves the day bands, and the occasionally good but generic punk band.
