No, it's one of a fleet of about four hundred and fifty ambulances that are owned by the Britsh Columbia Ambulance Service. It's operated by the Provincial Government. It's employees are unionized members. Our Union is called "The Ambulance Paramedics of Britiosh Columbia". Cupe local 873.
The echo shift pattern is 10 hour days for 4 days. Metro Van also has Charlie shifts which start with the bravo pattern then go into the evening shift =Charlie. It's been so long I'm not sure what other patterns might be out there. But, it is mostly "Alpha" 12 hour shifts.
Oh, some vancouver island cars that are echo are a split crew with the full timer working with a part timer (working standby for 10 dollars an hour until they get a call). Even a few Alpha cars are like that? Hence the strike
I guess your community doesn't deserve full time paramedic coverage.. Only 4 days a week 10 hours a day with one full time member. I miss working kilo..We need to get rid of the "Fox" shift. If they (BCAS) want a 90 second responding Ambulance.. It should be Full time medics..Period!
When our Ambulances started to be built by Crestline Coach they came with SVP (Southern Vehicle Products) sirens. The next order around '97 or '98 came with the Carson siren box. It's been like that even since. It's time for a change!!
They used to come with the red stripe still on it. Now our Fleet dept takes some white paint and paints out the red stripe. Most of the lights stay on.. But, it does seem to change from time to time.
It's a 6200 series unit. I'm guessing 1999 or 2000.. That is old in ambulance years. At least for larger centers. The problem is these city units do a lot of short runs and it takes time to get the milage up.. The rural units generally have longer runs and farther transports to the hospitals with their patients. So, they tend to get a new unit every three years approx. I think we're around 300,000 KM for retirement now. BCAS recently boosted it from 250,000 KM.
Is that the 2006 model ambulance? I believe they changed the rear lights above the door right?

Thought the Police had that label?

I hope this sheds some light on our service?

how does the strike work?
mxfrmbarsspbdsrtrver 2 years ago
Not very well... Business as usual for the most part. Pretty tough when you've been deemed an essential service. It's a most frustrating situation!

Oh man, well I wish you guys luck really. Stay safe out there and I love the videos!
