  • I wish I lived in the 40s. Back then, you could actually go out for a night of dancing, rather than a night of standing vaguely next to someone, thrashing your limbs and getting deafened by subs and blinded by strobe lights.

  • @Novur You can do that today. Google "Lindy Hop" and your city/state to find out where you can dance like this, with out the strobe lights.

  • send some of those katz my way ! white shoes guy !

  • and many years later..."DAKTARI"! Remember?

  • it´s like rock and roll!!!!

  • Hi I love this and have been looking to buy the video or dvd but cant find it anywhere, can anyone help, thanks

  • Imdb.com has it on their website.

  • CAN YOU UPLOAD THE WHOLE MOVIE? I CAN'T FIND IT AT MY LIBRARY OR ANYWHERE! PLEASE UPLOAD THE WHOLE THING.

  • where can i buy this movie

  • The blonde is one of two. Lee & Lynn Wilde . Twin sisters : )

  • 2:21 - 2:27 Damn!

  • I'm only 28 (by the end of year I'll be 29), I'm not from U.S.A., but, Gush, I like these movies!

  • I Wonder what YouTube Would Have Looked Like in the 40s? Thats if there would have been Internet in the 40s

  • wasn't the girl in the glasses in Vertigo. And she looks awfully similar to that book keeper in the big sleep.

  • @Piccolo7126

No, that's not either gal. The gal in Hitchock's "Vertigo" was Barbara Bel Geddes (who is mostly remembered today as the family matriarch on TV's "Dallas") and the bookshop gal in Howard Hawks' "The Big Sleep" was Dorothy Malone (who won as Oscar for the 50's drama "Written on the Wind" & who starred on TV's first prime time soap "Peyton Place" in the 60's). The gal in the glasses in this jitterbugging clip certainly is very cute & sexy...hubba hubba to the max, daddy-o !!! :)

  • Isn't that ginger rodgers behind the glasses?

  • @harvey1954

    I think it's Doris Day.

  • @Soapking1965 Now that you mention it I think you're right.

  • lol, cute movie...grandma and grandpa use to dance like that! lol

  • This dancing is so awesome. If only it was still in vogue today. Thank you, YouTube and oldtimey for posting this. I love it. The 80's was my generation.

  • @PhoenixxxStar Dancing is always in Vogue. Its just people today do not know the steps to the Lindy/jitterbug/jive dance styles. The problem with today's society they would add unnecessary steps & ruin a great dance. Today's music isnt geared for these dance steps. I agree, This is an amazing style of dancing very interactive and energetic without it being too sexual and made to shock the public. Back then there wasnt an obesity problem among the young ppl like there is in today's society

  • @PhoenixxxStar It's still popular today! Do a search of your city/state and "Lindy Hop" and you'll find something. The #1 swing dance video on YouTube is from 2006!

  • what a great time they all had

  • One word...CLASS. Sorely, sorely missing nowadays. These times had it in spades.

  • This looks like movie for me. great clip, thanks.

  • that's the way to dance....like we did!!!

  • Love this clip! I need to see the whole film it looks like fun. I've searched everywhere I know, is it available at all? Help!!

  • Thumbs up if your watching this in 2011!!!

  • @JosephInTheMiddle sorry watching this in 9143

  • @JosephInTheMiddle no im watching this in 1945 fucking wow

  • @JosephInTheMiddle Music such as this are classics, something that has stood the test of time. For that matter it very well doesnt suprise me that people are still watching things like this in 2011. On the other hand go to a beyonce video or a katy perry, gaga ect. 70 years from now. No one will still be listening to that crap. Thats what separates yesterdays music from todays.

  • @sadbutsandman91 You can play me a Beyonce, Katy Perry or Lady Gaga song and I wouldn't remember it 70 seconds later let alone 70 years lol.

  • @JosephInTheMiddle I'm actually watching this in 1945

  • @JosephInTheMiddle haha, not anymore!

  • @JosephInTheMiddle No 2012!!

  • At: 2:37: so the Piroutte long before Michael Jackson came up with it.

  • This looks like a film produced by M. G.M. Glue Gallagher and the actress who was in bathing beauty as the student Jean whats her name and one of the twin sister , whom both appeared in a Andy Hardy film, and appeared in till the clouds roll by

  • ohhh yehhh "Swing-Hail" ! ! ! ! :o)

  • Why are white people so stiff? None of these dancers can even remotely compare to the lindy-hoppers of Hellzapoppin

  • Littleniyah, why do you have to make it a racial thing? Not to pick on you, but you're trying to simplify things too much. People who are at ease with themselves don't play the race card right away.

When I worked in Battle Creek, I went to a lot of weekend parties, mostly with African American coworkers. They saw my very chaotic, high energy dancing style. The next day at work, someone usually said, "Y'all got a lot of rhythm for a white boy!"

Gee thanks, I'll take that as a compliment.

  • @AppleSouffle Yes, I don't know why people have to bring race into it. Almost all of the time, people who make comments like this haven't been exposed to anything more. I'm from So Cal, 99% of the parties I go to are very mixed, and whether a person is a good dancer or not, it never comes down to race. You just get out there and do what you do. I mean really, we're talking about dancing!!

  • Great video....... Terry

  • I sweat like crazy when 'swingin' this must have been a kkkkkkold nite to be wearing all those long sleeves and suits (lol)

  • I so want to see this movie!

The plot is that 2 twin sisters meet after being apart for 7 years. (They're parents divorced.) And they trade places. It must be that the sister who doesn't know how to dance is masquerading as the sister who knows how to dance.

  • ...wäre meine Zeit gewesen !!!

  • what about the poeple that can't dance?

  • one punch mickey!!

  • awesome moves !

  • OK

  • Dont interpret film portrayal as an accuracy of reality in the 40s!

  • Man they knew how to have fun back then!!!

  • Wow, that's dance! That's art!

Thank you for this real nice and funny movie classic, bye from Italy.

  • Lol that's how you solve an argument, just hit him in the face.

  • oldtimey, nice to see these white kids burn that leather. thanks for the treat. sure would love to see this flick.............someday. thanks for the treat. tom d brick,nj.

  • oldtimey, nice to see these white kids burn that leather. thanks for the treat. tom d brick,nj.

  • definitivamente cierto ESTO SI QUE ES RITMO NADA COMO ESTO

  • well, this was rock n roll before they even knew it

  • @RockabillyWilly1 Or more like Rock n' Roll comes from swing

  • Where can I buy this video?

  • what's the band's name?

  • QUE PLACER VER ESTO DA GUSTO VERLOS VAILAR POR DIOS ESTO ES RITMO

  • this what i love about oldies.. they can act and dance and sing.

  • how 28 people can possibly dislike this ? the 3:42 part is like the funniest ever ! (not talking about how stylish are these dances when danced properly not trying to strangle your girl...)

  • @seggirard Those 28 bums have absolutely no rhythm.

  • i wish people still danced like this!

  • @rocketfuel205 People do! Look up some videos of Lindy Hop! Pretty much every city has some kind of swing dancing scene. :-)

  • I wish I could live in 30s/40s, I want to be a trombonist for Glenn Miller or Artie Shaw bands! :(

  • Man, I would love to have grown up between the 40 's & 70's! I'm only 21 though :(

  • @Kaybug0110 Google your city/state and "Lindy Hop" and you should be able to find some swing dancing near you that's from the era. :-)

  • This movie looks good but I can't find it anywhere :(

  • AW! i sure as heck am sorry things will never be like back in those times, i'm a teenager and i surely would've loved living those days!

  • this looks like such a blast!

  • Comment removed

  • I want to dance like that! :D look like so much fun! That's what I call real dancing, not just jumping around at the club..

  • @MusicLove092 Google Lindy Hop and your city/state.

  • Whitey's Lindy Hoppers make this effort look like what it is. A bunch of wannabe squares taking 5 minutes out of their starched shorts spending more time talking about it than doing it. Jeez...........

  • @forumghost1 There are many different kinds of Lindy Hop. Lindy Hoppers celebrate individuality, so smooth and wild Lindy is very much acceptable.

  • the fifties were a wonderful time for me!nice looking girls in normal dresses, petticoats,

    etc

  • @sinuhe06 Um, this film and dancing is from the 1940s...

  • Where can I get the movie? I can't find it :(

  • epic.

  • This is horrible. It is nothing like REAL SWING dancing. These dancers are so stiff, and not authentic with the moves. For real dancers look up Lindy Hop-Hellzapoppin. Those are some real swingers.Bless there little hearts though. They tried :)

  • @zoetheatre The dancers in the background are some of the most famous California Lindy Hoppers ever. Don't pay attention to the actors obviously doing comedic choreography.

Yes, Hellzapoppin is amazing, but not all Lindy Hop is about dancing faster and doing air steps.

  • @zoetheatre

Everybody didn't dance like the dancers in "Hellzapoppin."

  • Muito bom. Gostaria de ver o filme todo.

  • Muito bom. Gostria de ver o filme todo.

  • we go back to this time every weekend, dance the night away and enjoy it, lindy shag bal, is there any other way of dancing???????

  • ass crash at 1:25

  • @ZESTdabest Okay pal

  • stunning - absolutely stunning dancing

  • That was the cat's meow.

  • What's so wrong with my generation that we don't have a dance? (okay, so there's a lot wrong.) I yearn to learn!!

  • @msr824

I'm wondering the same.....the hippies ruined it all for us!

  • @msr824 Have you not discovered the Lindy Hop community? Google Yehoodi.

  • el mejor momento 02:22

    Best moment 02:22

  • super interesante

  • Damn those cats can DANCE!

  • whats the name of the song? me and my friend learned it and we want to know the song:)

  • swing music

  • y luego que pasa? me dejaron en ascuas!

  • @Nueztoy ve la peli no?

  • where can i download this movie?

  • from the 20's to the 50's is my dream time.

  • Some of them are wearing what kinda looks like sneakers. :-P

  • Is that Ginger Rogers?

  • @nuclearnavymom if you're talking about the blonde girl at the beginning then no, it's one of the wilde twins (the other blonde girl who can't dance towards the end is the other wilde twin)

  • Hey oldtimey - how old are you anyway. I'm 58 and I love the old musicals. I would love to buy this move but I can't find it anywhere. Any tips? Keep the good musicals coming, it's the best!

  • Everyone of the dancers in the back are infinitely better than the two lead dancers, especially him. That's not meant to be a criticism of the leads, but praise for the couples in the background. They're frickin amazing.

  • @Kaalec The background dancers are professional dances. The 2 leads are actors who can dance a bit. Watch this couple - He's in a black & white horizontally striped shirt and black pants. She's in a full black skirt and white blouse. They are amazing. Such a combination of strength and grace.

  • @JanBRLA I would have thought that the female lead was a dancer, because she's not much of an actor. ;-)

  • So cool! I love the shy blonde girl, so cute!!!!

    GENIAL.

    GRACIAS POR PONERLO, oldtimey.

  • too much thigh from the young lady for my likeing

  • He got served! He needs to learn to stomp the yard better.

  • funny

  • Where is this movie!!! I totally want to see it!!!!

  • @nishanoire me, too :)

  • so bugs bunny-esque

  • Balls Deep

  • Its like an earl version of "Strictly Ballroom"... the ugly ducking learning how to dance and then there is the bad guy and everything :)

  • For all of you wishing you could go out dancing like that, despair not! Although not a huge part of today's popular culture (except perhaps for 1998-2000), swing dancing/lindy hop/jitterbugging is very much alive. In any city over 100,000 people in North America, you are sure to find swing dances usually held at least once a week. You can almost always find lessons and you can dance like they do in the movie to similar music. So go out swinging now!

  • what a puntch!!

  • what did the five fingers say to the face? "SHLAAPP!"

  • watered down

  • con esta musica se me afigura estar viendo a tom y jerry en accion jajajaja.

  • lmao

  • I love these kinds of movies. :)

  • @bluewater4056 so do i ! :-))

  • Does anyone know the coreographer for this dance?

  • are u part of the scavenger hunt? cause if u are, then i will tell u the answer

  • I know who it is. Its Carolanne Whittaker from europe. Hope this help you win.

  • awesome brill fanatastic

  • 2:33 his pants o.o

    i want them! haha,they look awesome. :(

  • que mujeres tan guapas y que manera de bailar , me impresiona que todo ese glamour, ese estilo, ese porte ya se haya perdido en todos los aspectos de la vida en USA!!!!

  • Look at how much stronger us Americans were back then...think about it...do nukes have anything to do with this?

  • @spoiledbrat1440001

It was the hippies, before them the world was fine :D

  • Can you imagine how intimidating that dance should look for a person that just arrived at the ball and does not know how to dance!! HAHAH!

  • I liked it

  • Wonderful dance,my dream is return to 40 or 50 last time.

  • @alcenirbarbosa If I had a timemaschin to get back, i would! Just to dance! :D

  • @alcenirbarbosa Me too man, me too.

  • anyone know where I can obtain a copy of this movie(rental even)? I cannot find it at TCM,Netflix or Movies unlimited.

  • @aerhaz

As far as I know this was not re:released in any home viewing format. Probably collecting dust and crumbling in the film canister on some back shelf at MGM. Still copywrited by Loews, Inc. I would write to Robert Osborne @ TMC and ask. One of his underlings will get an answer for you or you can telephone MGM direct @ 888-223-2369. Good luck.

  • Thank You for your help! Hopefully one of these suggestions will get this movie released!

  • I recently started watching black and white movies (i need something to do before i go to work in the afternoon XD)

and i really love this dancing o.o i mean this is real dancing o.o it makes me wanna take a class or something to attempt to learn

  • @HoneyBlade91 f you want to learn this dance just go to google and type in Lindy Hop or Jitterbug and the name of your city. Or the closest city with a population of 100,000+.

  • Nice dancing, but I looked this movie up on IMDB and I never heard of a single one of the actors. IMDB says it was a "B" movie. Well, it had "C" acting and "A" dancing, so I guess that makes it a "B".

  • Comment removed

  • yes, a nice contribution there my friend...

  • Everybody could dance back then...Even white people.

  • no offence but blacks did it better

  • no offence there at all, it would only be offensive it was a white person saying that about blacks!!!

  • Regarding timboswingdancer of 3 months ago--It would only be an enormous COMPLIMENT if ANYONE said that about ANYONE'S dancing. Political correctness is false reality and a terrific BORE.

  • The most physical dance ever invented.

  • theres loads of us out there doing this every weekend... please join us its great!!!!!!

its a way of life for some of us!!!!!!!!!

  • I've recently fell n love with this music and the dance is just amazing and i want to learn altho i fell a bit awkward as i thought i was the only one into it

  • Be able you to say to me the title of music please?

  • Yes - look up the swing record on YouTube of Zeke Zarchy - he did all the recordings of the swing movie musical of those years, playing with the Big Bands.

  • That was back when kids could actually dance. They kept fit dancing like that. Today they're too drugged up to move about and there's no music to dance to.

  • Yes, but this was the beginning when music, singing and dancing went off track.

  • I agree because I'm one of those and this is heaven to me.

  • that was back when a man could actually lift a woman up....woman are fat now and men are weak >.....we all need to swing dance to loose some weight!! Hell Yeah I am gonna start..

  • the truthhh

  • That's real WWII Jitterbug. In fact both of them co-operate. The girl starts to jump and the boy help her flying higher.

  • And BTW, the girls are hot as well O.o

  • Crimson Skies. LOL.

    I love this music.

  • Hey, they cutted the best! 1:56 :D

  • I agree. We've have to watch the whole movie then.

  • Mmmm Jitterbug was what the white man called lindy hop. Because the Black dancers were the creators of lindyhop, and the whiteman tried to copy it.......

  • That's not entirely accurate, and that whole "white man stole all of the good black stuff" argument is tired...

  • Is it not true? Who invited this dance?

AND the lingo who spoke in this manner?BLACKS. YOU can watch the many swing videos on youtube big difference between the creators and imitators.

  • back in the 1940's black actors were unheard of normally but they had small roles like playing the roles of band members research the movie Hellzapoppin made in 1941.

  • Saying that "black actors were unheard of" is a slap in the face of GREAT black actors of the time: Bill Robinson, Louise Beavers, Academy Award winner Hattie McDaniel. Read a book, please.
