NYC Plane crashes into Helicopter, both sink mysteriously

Why would air traffic control be interested in monitoring the progress of a light aircraft and a tour helicopter? They both would have been flying VFR, most likely under a 'basic' radar or flight folowing service (At best!!) In plain English- It was up to the pilots of each aircraft to avoid each other, Both pilots failed to maintain seperation and hence hit one another. With a descent negative vertical speed they would never float- aircraft can land on water yes- but not crash on water!

For me the whole idea of a helicopter crashing into a light aircraft over the Hudson just seems to me both tragic and baffling, I would of thought Air traffic Control would of been on the ball as the two pilots. Especially after the tragedy of 9/11.. I dont see why this type of thing can still happen with all our technology of today.

How many times have you seen a plane or helicopter crash into a river? Not too often, I assume. Don't compare a plane crash into the ocean with this one. They're different because of so many factors. I don't wanna get into the details because I'm not a physicist or anything. But, just think about it.

Yeh I know its unusual but thats why I done some research into light aircraft crashing into rivers. They according to research have a period of flotation.

I know that when a plane crashes into the ocean there is the salt in the sea to make it more boyant.

Sincerely sorry if I came across a bit rude, but I just really don't see how anyone can come up with anything other than far out fantasy on this subject. I can appreciate that the world has it's secrets but let's face it - it would have to be something out of Harry Potter to twist this tragic event into something other than what it was.
