Tourist are afraid to get out of there cars! That's BULLSHIT! That's park ranger crap. If you need help of any kind the people in Orick will be the first to help you, not attack you. Too many Burl Shops, well what are the people suppose to do for a living? The mills are all gone, the fishing is all gone. The parks are just trying to starve the people out of town, so all of Orick can be park property. NOT, while I still own a piece of Orick.
Here I am, 36 years removed from my time as the school bus driver and janitor of Orick School, and the song that I, Paul Ennis, wrote for the 8th grade graduation in 1975, 'Song of Orick' is featured in a viral video on YouTube!! Go figure that one out will ya'. I believe Verna was a very young student at Orick School in 1975 who may have been in the school chorus and that group sang the song whilst I played the piano to accompany the group in singing the song I wrote for them. oh.my.god. They didn't show the house that has a trailer in it. You can see it just past the Orick sign, but I never understood why the heck you would build a house around a trailer... For it's kitchen maybe? Man am I glad I never stop here...
Orick is a piece of Americana like no other. So if you're visiting the redwoods to stop in it well be worth your time. It was the highlight of a road trip we took up the coast of California to Oregon. Several years ago. By the way you ever get the chance to take time and go up 101 from Southern California, to the Columbia River in Oregon. Go for it! You will have one of the best times of your life.
Orick Rules! It's a nice under-the-radar town with some of the greatest people in the world.
