@vegeta2030 i'm curious to how this is insulting... i'm not being defensive either, i'm genuinely curious. i think it's just a beautiful song about selflessness from a children's movie.
I think the people that are treated as outcasts are those with medical issues such as handicapped or other stuff. We tend to look at the differences before even taking a look at similarities. I am proud to say I have such friends as these people because I took a chance in looking at the similarities instead of the differences. If you agree thumbs up.
(pure curiosity, not to start getting all prickly and edgy on you. i respect your opinion, and if you don't really want to share it, i'm okay with it, :) )
Read the novel for this a day or so ago. It's funny how Disney can take an utter beautiful tragedy, and turn it into were nearly everybody gets a happy ending. The bad guy becomes worse, the almost-badguy becomes the hero, and heck, why not make a sequel, so Quasi gets to find love? xD
at first i thought that this was a boring movie back when i was younger but the beauty of this movie was beyond my young mind.. this song is heart wrenching :<
The most selfless prayer in a song... Sends shivers down my spine. When she walked through the candles and the selfish prayers while raising their hands it made me reflect on my own prayers. Esmeralda measured my soul through this song..
Even though Esmeralda is a gypsy and all that, I still think she's really pretty :) I love her green eyes :D I like her singing voice :) Especially when she is walking through the candles :D
I love what she says because it shows that in this time, gypsies were treating them so horrible. I love this because she really states she's not worthy of being heard.
Disney used to make wonderful movies like this. Ones that, when you're younger, have fantastic sing-alongs and and funny plotlines. When you grow up a little, you properly listen to the songs and... well, this is the outcome.
when i first saw this movie and the second one i loved them both and i love their stories and i just thought the second movie was a little more animated then the first but i still loved it and even today i watch these movies and i am 17 years old and i will be 18 in january and still love these to movies
@MiniDebz I agree. I'm in the upper middle class myself and would give up much to be closer to God. Oh, if only the wealthy in the church would see that! God help us all; we need it desperately!
The Hunchback of Notre Dame is one of the only movies that can give me goosebumps all the way through. I used to hate it when I was younger but now it's probably my favorite Disney movie. I'm a Disney nerd. :) <3
This is the best of all the Disney movies. I wish they'd make another as good as this, maybe with similar morals. BUT NO, of COURSE we can't, because putting the word GOD in a movie when it isn't part of a curseword these days would OFFEND somebody, so let's just go on making crappy, second rate movies that today's kids can stare at and not learn a D**** THING from.
@SuckerForTragicDeath Lol, there are so many things in this song that are inappropriate for children. I think you need to watch it again. Pay attention to the song Hellfire and what Frollo's singing about..or how about the gargoyle with a gay crush on a goat?
actually, in the book one of the characters ends up marrying Esmeralda and ends up liking her goat more than the girl. The gargoyle liking the goat might serve as a shout out to that character.
@Firefly2183 I was a kid when I saw this an honestly, I didn't understand crap, they were cartoon and not real so I didn't really care, Hell fire has some amazing lyrics which is true, teaches you a lesson, and the gay crush goat is HILARIOUS, and an ode to the character in victor hugos novel :P
@cindyjinx Oh I agree, the less than savory aspects will likely go over a kid's head, but this was in response to the top comment who seems to think this movie is wholesome and righteous, lol. And I got the character reference :p. But that poster of the top comment, SuckerForTragicDeath strikes me as a bible hugging prude and I find that annoying :3. And in their bible hugging prudiness they seem to have missed the not so wholesome moments/lyrics.
@SuckerForTragicDeath SERIOUSLY.!!!! This movie is such an amazing movie.!!!! So many morals and the movie is great.!!! :D But everyone gets butthurt nowadays saying they're offended when using the word God but not other curse words -___- AND they say this movie is inappropriate for children -___- WTH I watched this when it first came out and honestly, I didn't even understand it till i got older and glad because this movie is such an amazing work.!
The outcasts are human first and outcasts last. I am compassionate for everyone because I connect to everyone on their level. I see no enemies. I see no other human being seperate from me because I am human like them. No binds of people means no binds on love.
This makes me feel proud that my name is esmeralda, i also have dark hair, warm complexion and i sing too. And this is my fave disney movie...and i love this song very much. I cried when i first hear this song.
@ADyingFaith I don't think I'll EVER watch the second one. I think unplanned sequals just ruins it all... No, I want to remember this film just the way it's supposed to be. But to each their own, of course.
This song gives me chills when I hear it... It's so moving and sad. Makes you think back about how the older disney songs actually had feeling to them.... (I.E. High School Musical, Hannah Montana) But anyways, I digress... This song is amazing and she had such a great voice. ♥
its a message to all of y'all- and myself too- don't shy away or be scared or feel undeserving to be near God because of your countless faults, cuz He's there to TAKE THEM AWAY :D. forgive and forget, that is His notion 24/7, and if you truly repent, and ask for help, theres no need to feel shame.
@am3ri3s Amen, I have to admit that can be difficult as I have countless sins (to me) for which I need to give account. I thank God He numbers them and knows how much I will have to confess because even just one sin ashames me; that He knows them all, bears them and forgives me of each one is a blessing indeed!
aww. this song is so heart warming and touching. makes you sorta sad... luv this song and the movie too. thanks for uploading (especially with the movie scene with lyrics, that's awesome) :)
I appreciate how they made Esmerelda so selfless and how she doesnt ask for anything for herself like the other higher class people, but she prays for the well being of her people, and realizes there are others that are less fortunate then she is.
No kidding- most of the others in the Disney heroine group are whinny little things with no point to their exsitances- Ariel wants more than she has, Belle wants meaning in her life (Wait, I take that back. We all do), and that gal from Aladinn wants freaking LESS than what she has!
Esmerelda is the better role model of the Disney Heroines, to be sure.
@Heirtotheking That's what makes Jasmine so pure: she knows she can have more as far as love and true wealth go- righteousness and integrity, to be more specific- but she also knows that she must remain in the confines of her Arabian palace until her father allows to leave home and she does just that. Therefore, she makes the best of what she has in the meantime, even risking her life for the higher good of her father, Aladdin and herself.
@pinkinc94 Exactly. I noticed her sharp contrast to Frollo, and she, I believe, represents the tax collector in Luke 18:9-14 whereas Frollo represents the Pharisee, don't you think?
I didn't get it when I was little. I just thought it was a pretty song, but then when I got older, I listened to it again and nearly bawled my eyes out.
@loveybumblebee554 He does, and that is what Esmeralda does not yet realize. She loves God, but is unaware of if He loves her and how much He loves her because she has lived her entire life in poverty and rejection. Therefore, she likely believes that God has a purpose for her but certainly cannot care for her so much as He cares for other people because they are physically wealthier and more esteemed in society than she is. Thank God, she learns the truth later!
