I remember seeing this ship when it was being built in Fincantieri. From the start you could see that there was a problem with the front right axel (underneath the cockpit) and that it looked structurally weak on the starboard side. I'm not one to start conspiracy theories but perhaps when it hit the pebble it snapped an aileron which caused it to capsize?

I think the captain of Costa Concordia did everything well.. He had managed the ship to stop as near as possiblein the (Is)land and at spot where help would come the quickest. Had it been he decided to launch the safety boat at the first sign of danger, the ship would have stopped in the middle of the sea where evacuation,help and rscue for all 4000 people would be much more difficult.He also sved the ship, atleast part of it. It was just a maritime version of a an emergency aircraft landing.
