Mama. I really miss my Mama. She hasn't known me since 2002. she doesn't remember my name..............she doesn't know my kids. she doesn't know I have a really great husband now.
@BoognishWhoo Yes, everyone should try to find it. It's out of print now, but it's one incredibly powerful album. I can't love it enough. It's also so sad that artists as great as Marc Anthony Thompson/Chocolate Genius are barely known. I guess, it makes him that much more special.
I'm probably not the first one to mention it, but if you look at him carefully after the first time he says "my mom", during the silence, a tear falls from his cheek. Must be painful to sing something like that. It's a beautiful, but terrible, terrible song.
Really love how much true emotion is in his performance and how its a real experience for him i cant belive this is so overlooked and it really touches your heart when you see the tear fall from his cheek
I can't believe I don't know this artist and didn't know this song!! This is one of the most moving, saddest songs I have ever heard. His delivery is full of emotion, with that raw voice, and the words are so genuine. The topic is something so many people will be able to relate to. There's so much pain in watching cognitive deterioration in a parent. This song nearly has me in tears.
How in the heck is it that this song is not part of everyone's musical vernacular. It's a darned shame. Excellent, sad, and perfectly poignant piece of art.
@day333 I WAS THinking the same thing, This is the first time i've heard this song. I guess i have been living under a rock. I could have used this to help me through the death of my own mother....It's a gem.
This is one of those songs that everyone will agree is a timeless masterpiece but so few actually know Marc Thompson and his work, it is just such a shame. Superb live performance.
This is a very sad song. I don't understand why it isn't one of the classics of today. It's a shame that this song is as overlooked as it is. Marc Anthony Thompson is an amazing artist.
His real name is Marc Anthony Thompson and he released two excellent albums under his given name - the self-titled "Marc Anthony Thompson" (on lp only) and "From Watts to Paris" (available on CD). The self-titled album is hard to find, but you can probably get "From Watt" for $2.88 used on Amazom.,com.
My can you say about a song like this? Is there any possible way a musician can be more honest and gripping? I remember when I first saw this show (first time I ever heard of Chocolate Genius) -- and was really young -- and I was like, "Who he hell is this guy? He's fantastic." I'd never heard anything like it. In other hands it could have been Hallmark-ish, but you feel the truth pouring out of the song. To this day I still find this track to be unreal. Incredibly gifted musician.
Well basically every song about moms will make me cry. So there.
