lol This was the album that Jody said that her an Leon did 90% of the background vocals because Jeffery left the group for the U.K. hehehehe. This group was a lost from the start an it's so sad. Because Shalamar put out GREAT music from start to finish ( after Jeff an Jody left) I'm not really a fan of the following line up or the music that came out then. But while Gary Mumford, Gerald Brown and Howard Hewitt was leads Shalamar was the bomb!
This whole album is stupendous. Too bad it was their last of their original lineup. Not one bad song on the album, excellent R&B. Kudos to jody for going solo. I heard her potential in this album, much like I did with Basia from Matt Bianco. But Howard is the man with his vocal gymnastics, in a class all his own like Al Jarreau.
@troopa1911 I think Leon Sylvers is who you refer to. Leon did most of the production on all of Solar Records stuff ... I am not sure of Foster's role, but I would not be surprised if all of the Sylvers had a hand in their stuff.
@GeneralTrousers Foster Sylvers did help some on Shalamar's Three For Love and Friends and The Look, either playing bass guitar or arranging vocals or rhythms. He also did some production,co-writing on Eveyln Champaign King's single Shakedown in 1983.
@nishka98 the sound wouldn't have been what is in without ms. watley on those background vocals in my opinion. she just made the sound pop. hewett is a good vocalist, but nothing special as evidenced by his solo career which didn't really pop at all, watley on the other hand popped indeed.
CROON 3....I SO AGREE with you.....I felt the same vibes....they were great times in R&B ....really miss it......songs came thick and fast.....I couldn't keep up with it...couldn't make enough money fast enough ,to keep my collection topped up....GRET DAYS......
Brings back so many memories. Fall 83'. I remember the day bought the cassette, who I was dating at the time, where I was when I played it first[my room], and the feeling I got when the song "Over and Over" came on. It blew me away. Leon Sylvers will always be the man, the Greatest producer of all time.
hi Croon3, this is Don. Really a Great song, but the bridge at 2:15 ??? I always overdubbed the measures until the next break... anyway thumbs up for Leon, marvelous productions from The Master of Funk !!!

When I was a teen in the late seventies-early eighties, I learn how to play funk music by listening to this band. Nice!

I miss Shalamar....The Look was my favorite Shalamar album!
Big shot out to Foster Sylvers who work on many of Shalamar's albums.

@chicsensibilities So his voice isn't special because he didn't go platinum? That's hardly a good way to gauge something.

I love this album. Don't get me started on musical content, this was a strong, talent-backed album.
If you go back to the time period, you'll find that Shalamar was way out in front of the rest of the similar groups.
Thanks for posting a talented group, it's too bad we can;t hear more of this type of talent from todays' group of performers.
