Good lord, this commercial plays way too much everyday on TV where I live. Not one day has passed that I don't watch this ad, not even think about it, I don't think.
I cannot believe this is serious. This shows how the internet has actually allowed mankind's intelligence to deteriorate. We rely on the internet far too much. Because of the internet, newspapers and magazines are becoming obsolete. Because of the internet, we don't have to go to the store to buy an article of clothing. We can sit on our couch and purchase the item. This commercial, through its false advertisement, actually demonstrates the serious problem we have in this modern day and age.
Am I missing something? This actually promotes stupidity. Should everyone be 'that kind' of smart, everyone would want to jump off a cliff. Or be prescribed psychiatric medication to stop them from wanting to do that. Oh, wait...
I have AT&T and their internet is somehow slower than dialup. Of course their claim is wrong, but if the internet did make us smarter, it would take longer than getting my high school diploma again.
The internet has the potential to make kids smarter. I agree, it allows them access to a large store of knowledge. However, the vast majority of children do not use the internet primarily for educational purposes and AT&T knows it.
though internet doesn't really make us smarter however the internet is a great access of knowledge...people can get info easier then going to a library...
@eliteman7 The song is by a production company called Squeak E. Clean, though their website, MySpace page and blogs doesn't list the song or song title or reference at this time. A search for "Squeak E Clean" BBDO and "Spelling Bee' may confirm this for you, though some of the information requires a subscription. They also did the music for the AT&T commercial "Ripple Effect". You might want to contact them directly.
@moternm5 It's the same for the AT&T Rush t-shirt commercial (/watch?v=aLjrNnnhQNk). That song can't be found anywhere, and AT&T just will not tell us - unlike the Kohler people who makes their Flipside song available for download (dub dub dub dot us dot kohler dot com slash performanceshowers slash handshowers slash gateway dot jsp). Two thumbs down, AT&T.
Liars. AT&T has told us that, even though they rewired this whole area with state-of-the-art fiber optics (at the expense of the U.S. gov't) after Katrina, "everyone in your area will be dead" before they hook up DSL. If we sold our farm and let developers put up 500 houses, we could get DSL. Otherwise, forgeddaboutit. This ad is blatant hypocrisy.
I think it's more aiming at the fact that we could all be smarter if we used the internet, which gives us access to the world, wisely instead of twittering, arguing, and watching porn. I'm not sayin... I'm just sayin. I think it was a great commercial.
"Access to the internet makes us smarter. What will happen when everyone has it?"
The part that stands out for me personally is EVERYONE HAVING IT! I DON'T! I have tried for years to get dsl at my house from AT&T. They keep telling us it's not available in my area. Well that's funny, because my neighbor (who's house was built after we'd already lived here for several years) has DSL.
Have you actually been on the Internet? Access to the Internet doesn't make people smarter, it just makes them more argumentative, allows them to find porn easily, and make heinous violations of proper spelling and grammar rules.
@obsidian468 People rarely make those mistakes in actual letter writing or whatever they have to write. And for a lot of people (especially people for whom English is not their primary language) it helps their writing skills.
Well, with some reservations, I'll say it is on the money. Did "Who wants to be a MIliionaire?" really drop the phone lifeline because of Internet friends? And it's always good AT&T is around to help us preserve civilization now that Ma Bell is a distant memory.
Thanks AT&T. Attempting to show the kids are smart because of the Internet but your own commercial has spelled 'Internet' incorrectly. The word is a pronoun. Only you can stop the dumbing down of America.
RIDICULOUS! Apparently they haven't tried to read any Facebook statuses or text messages. I just read a status of someone trying to say that an E is not a vowel.
@Johnnyjerome Unrelated to this video (but related to your comment), someone in class thought the polished wood the desks were made out of is "fake wood". No one could get him to believe otherwise.
Anyhow, I like this commercial. Especially the '48 hours' line.
Everyone on youtube is probably too young to remember this, but it's a classic line that defined a generation.
"Ross: It was 5:30 in the morning, and you had rambled on for 18 pages. Front and back! Oh-oh-oh, and by the way, Y-O-U-apostrophe-R-E means 'you are.' Y-O-U-R means 'your!' "

@KRWYT Their talking about the FCC's Broadband Plan. It's a plan that the government came up with and it is to make sure that every American has Broadband Internet. Most major Internet providers (like AT&T) are involved in it.
No AT&T ad would be complete without the nonsensical placement of Blacks.
