  • he's my idol since the begining til the end!!

  • He doesn't look happy at all with the performance at the end there.

  • is it necessary to have piano to write a song..? wtf.?? **freemanhl2 .. you can write anything with any intrument....

  • a great song by a great artist.

  • There is a video of all three on youtube.

  • It would have been better if Legend and Corinne had more expressive parts, maybe even a verse each or something. I do love John Mayer's work but also like Corinne and Legend so it would have been nice to seem them take on and adapt Gravity a little

  • the others sang first. Rae started with "Like A Star" followed by "Coming Home" by John Legend.

  • Ahhhh I see that would be why =), thanks for not exploding at me

  • I only listen to artists who write their own music

  • agreed! thousand times agreed

  • By your own logic you should just stop listening to music.

  • as do i

    finally, sumone who respects music.

  • So no elton john or chuck berry?

  • ... and? John writes his own shit

  • I was saying that I love john mayer because he writes his own music, I hate pop bands who have composers writing their music for them

  • dude... wtf seriously? I wana try not to be offencive, but he was making that shit up so we could laugh at how dumb the girls behind the table were... that whole show was full of sarcasm and humour, maybe if you actually owned one of his CD's you could look at the credits and see that he writes all his own material? I have even seen him play piano aswell

  • thank you for explaining

  • you obviously are not use to intelligent, sarcastic humour.

which pretty was the entire John Mayer has a tv show.

  • This guy fucking rocks

he is an awesome singer and even better guitarist

  • 2:34 - 2:42 is purely Stevie Ray Vaughan!

  • purely texas flood right there

  • so good!!! 5/5 mayer for mayor!!!!!

  • ricky minor in the background as John Mayer's band. He's the house band for American Idol

  • yeah serious talent

  • Mayer owned everything.

    He's so good.

  • He got a standing ovation from prince!! Snap!

He also got stared at blankly by Christina Aguilera, Yeah bitch, that thing you just saw is called talent, figure it out.

  • excuse you? have you HEARD her sing before?

  • Unfortunately yes, And I didn't enjoy it. Nor do I consider her to be talented, hence my comment

  • out of ALL the crappy singers out there, SHE'S not talented? if her type of voice isn't something you're into, i guess i get that. what don't you like about it? the only complaints i've ever heard from people is "too much vocal gymnastics" or they here her as "screaming" sometimes. is it one of those? i'm just curious, because she's one of my favorite singers, and i've never disliked ANYTHING about her voice.

  • Her type of non-songwriting, completely self indulgent singing isn't my thing.

Vocal gymnastics would be a good way of putting it, I never really gave this as much thought as you are friend, perhaps just take it with a pinch of salt and move on?

  • Do you realise I got an E-mail to let me know you've replied to me?

I don't really care what you think I am pal.

  • What in fucks name are you talking about?

And how the fuck are you calling me judgemental? Your the one who came out of nowhere and called "us guys" "lame".

I dont know you and you dont know me so stop calling me names and saying things about me, I'm just a name on a screen to you.

Also Prejudgemental isn't a word, Prejudgement is, but prejudgemental is not a derivation of it.

Nor am I inclined to make prejudgements. I don't know who you are. Leave me alone.

  • i agree with you

  • is that a reissue?

  • Warm up your voice mayerboy!

This is good.. But you can do it a 1000000 times better

  • I believe he will go down as one of the all time greats as a musician!

  • he definitely can...but he's not doing it

  • If you listen to John's interviews, his serious ones at least, you can see he really is a student of music.. you can tell in his music, he loves it

  • Chuck Norris cries when he hears this

  • lol!i totally agree with you, guy! john mayer is simply the best...

  • rofl

  • everyone ups their game at grammy performances. could use a few more of these

  • hes had about 500 solos better than this one.

  • yeah! look at the crossroads guitar festival 2007 ''gravity'' soo very nice :D

  • crossroads gravity- the best imo

  • for it's length this is one of his better ones... I think his best was live earth or his Irvine show this past year...

  • love the way he sings..one of the best voices

    :)

  • Loooooove John Mayer. He's a true talent!

  • he tore that up its to bad he doesn't do that in the studio version

  • oh you son of a bitch. How dare you say that about the great Clapton. FUck!! come on!! the YardBirds?? Cream??? less than mayer???fuck you

  • ...blind faith, derek and the dominoes, the bluesbreakers...

  • uggh this guy could very well be the next clapton...

but he has to stop wasting his talent and write some songs that are.. a little less homo!

  • Did you even listen to Continuum? Mayer has a very smooth blues sound in his recent work. How about you stop proving your ignorance by basing your comments on "Your Body Is A Wonderland" alone.

  • point is that song waas worthless i never said he was bad because hes not he is amazing k?

  • Your username is Finnmetal4life,

Go back to your cave metal about slaughtering trolls, and let us enjoy this boys' amazing playing

  • wowzers, ur right, Continuum is such a kick ass album... theres not a bad track in the album (theres not a bad track from John Mayer period! lol) unbelievable work from the one, the only, John Mayer!!

  • Hes an awesome guitarist

  • OMG what happened, a zipped version of Gravity in a 3 minutes long... anyway Johnny is excellent as usually. I truly love Continuum

  • anybody hear a little eric clapton influence as i do

  • well pfff...that's obvious...you know eric clapton was known as "slow hand" because of his particular style...the same with jm...greatest guitarist, but playing slow

  • actually they called clapton slowhand because of how often he broke strings with the yardbirds, and when he would restring on stage the crowd would start a slow hand clap(ton).

  • they've actually tried to nickname mayer as Slowhands II.

truth is, mayer's influences are rooted in everybody great- buddy guy, robert clay, stevie ray vaughan (probably more so than anybody else), jimi hendrix - the list can go on forever.

I'm just glad he's standing up and playing this stuff.

Who else out there is keeping rock/blues alive like Mayer? I say kudos to him for being the man!

  • yeh i agree. tho think the clapton influence has probably become a lot greater in recent years since thye've played tohgetehr quite a lot. too few rock/blues guitarists out there. tho joe bonamassa is pretty decent too.

  • I can hear a little clapton influence in everyone

  • by far my favorite song =)

  • actually, what is the title of this song?

  • Gravity

  • gravity =)

  • Gravity!

  • he has had the guitar since he was 19 he wouldnt get up on stage in front of all of his fans and lie about something like that

  • lol u ppl r crazy john is shooting magic out of his body and all you can talk about is the wand?

  • Ok, for the people who keep making up stuff about that guitar that makes absolutely no sense & obviously have no idea what they're talking about, here.

That's a Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt Stratocaster built by John Cruz, one of the most respected guitar builders in the world. The reason it looks worn out/aged is because of a process called relicing. It's a long complicated process to artificially age a guitar.

It's not "the guitar he used as a kid, and that's why it's so old"

  • yep, that was john legend on piano

  • ok john, this is perfect !!

  • that was john legend at the end wasnt it?

  • anyone know what kind of strat john's using here? i love how it's all worn!

  • the strat is a 60's model but its a custom relic. they sand it all back for him.

  • they dont sand the guitar back for him. Its worn out by him because it's the same guitar he used when he started playing when he was a kid.

  • are you kidding??? john mayer's first guitar was a squire you idiot. is he playing a squire here?? no i dont believe so. i believe its his customly reliced strat

  • first of all i didnt say it was his first guitar i said it was the guitar he used when he was a kid. secondly your probably right about the custom relic, i dont know. i am just saying he said in an interview that he uses the same guitar on stage that he used playing in his bedroom when he was a kid. and im guesing its the black strat because it's so worn out.

  • i dont think john mayer had a 60's strat when he started playing at like 12 years of age

  • it's a Fender Masterclass, a relic by John Cruz. and no, it is not the guitar he was referring to when he said that quote. he was talking about his SRV signature he bought as a teenager.

  • No that's completely wrong.

  • he didnt buy his first real guitar until he was in his 20s.

  • he can really sing! i love it man!

  • Has anyone notices that he is one of the ONLY singers out there where his voice sounds EXACTLY the same if not BETTER than it does on is records. Amazing feet in todays world where talent consist of everything BUT talent.

  • i LOVE LOVE LOVE him.. I think he's one of the few artists I could never get sick of listening to.

  • um WOW

  • this is incredible, this is the bluesy music that reels of sexual tention he makes live love to us all. thank god for the many little "o"s as he continues to ask us....R U ready for a new experience?

  • at 2:34 you can really hear the SRV influence.

  • Yeh yeh. Everyone is influenced by srv. :)

  • I know I am :)

  • Second that.

  • Influenced by Hendrix too but thats all obvious lol... Probably Albert King too...

  • Very much.

  • Which isn't a bad thing as they all changed the world from their talent... And they will live on for that forever... I know ill be here 100% until the day I die to honor them... Love playing guitar and Love the music.. Keep it up everyone :)

  • Yessir you speak ther truth!

  • Influenced or not you can't deny that he has a God given talent! I have to see him in concert somewhere!

  • When you go to his concert film it so i cant watch lol... Yeah hes good...

  • I've got my ticket for the August 29th concert in Alpharetta (Atlanta). I will do my best not to scream while taping. I hope I can film it. I thought he said cameras would be aloud at these summer concerts. Correct me if I'm wrong so I don't embarrass myself.

  • Great song

  • This song is truelly a special song!! John man dude keep rolling down this road because i cannot tell you how much this is workin

  • john mayer i think ur great - what do u think of carlos santana

  • you idiot dumb ass wht are u saying moving like a puppet? u dont know blues sucka

  • ???

  • Who cares if he moves like a puppet if he can produce music like that!

  • LOL he is quite stiff isn't he?

  • John Legend, sit down ffs! We couldnt hear youre crappy piano anyway!

  • what they ehck is he using 4 the solo

    it souns so good

  • I miss John Mayer's long hair. :(

  • john legend pisses me off, especially towards the end. john legend needs to sit down and stop acting like the whole show belongs to him.

  • yes, because it is so wrong to take a bow or recognize applause after a performance

  • well if you watch this whole video its like 9 minutes long and john legend plays a song and he is great. and ya normally when people applaud for you its good to stand up and take a bow ass

  • there is nothing wrong with the bowing, he's got every right to bow. however, the way he does it pisses me off. corinne bailey rae has more of a humble attitude during the performance. i cant say about his personality in general, but during this particular performance, i got the impression that he was very self-centered.

that being said, the performance of all three musicians was nothing short of outstanding.

  • Self-centered? I am not going to say anything negative but please do explain your reasoning behind this accusation.

  • I didn't know John Mayer was that good until I watched the Grammys, before that, I thought he was somekind of Pop singer. OMG, he's awesome, I'm a fan!

  • watch his performance of "city love" on "crossroads guitar festival" - the jam he does before he goes into City Love, this performance doesn't even compare as far as soloing

  • sure, thanks

  • i ABSOLUTLY agree... but this solo is pretty sick.

  • he's stated many times that he now has the fanbase from doing two pop albums to do whatever he wants.

  • That's John at his finest

If that drummer just had some soul man

    That solo is fantastic though

  • is he using a tube screamer to get that guitar sound at the end of the video??

  • love gravity!!

  • Oh John Mayer is amazing!...and super sexy too!

  • How about a duet with clapton ?

  • john mayer made the cover on rolling stones...title new guitar gods...new nick for john is slowhand jr

  • Berklee produces some fine musicians what can you say

  • john dropped out of berklee and did not attend for that long

  • john attended berklee for a year then dropped out

  • john mayer music is probably the most sophisticated out there right now

  • ... if he wasn't dating Jessica Simpson

  • first of not hendrix

    clapton and srv

i personally john legend was the best john mayer is kinda unoriginal but a fine guitar player

  • john legend suck mucho ass that day!

  • John Mayer. A legend in the making.

people who can appreciate real music know, that he is.

  • wow mayer is like a reincarnation of srv... damn hes awesome

  • How can you people be so close minded? All 3 of these artists are fantastic! If you had a real appreciation for music, you would clearly be able to see this WITHOUT being bound to only liking one genre of music! Great music is great music no matter where it comes from! Recognize that & give people their props when they are talented! They definitely out shine most of the stuff on the radio with their originality & pure sounds in their own unique ways! So, lets be more open minded!

  • John was amazing and made the other two just disappear

  • I definatly think that the three are not even in the same class. First of all they introduced it as "new artist, singer song writers" John Mayer is not really "New" being that he has won grammy's b4. but, also his talent so out shines the other two. He was great, absolutly fantastic, but I was disappointed when I seen that he was grouped him and didn't allow him to play a set by himself. But, his performance was outstanding...he's awesome!

  • The 21st Century Hendrix, Prince, and Vaughn rolled into one, his skills blow me away every time.

  • I still thing he's very Clapton-esque. . with a little Hendrix thrown in. . and maybe some Knopfler

  • its not really fair to have john destroy the guitar solo at the end. i forgot the first two were even there.

  • sounds like Stevie Ray's Life by the Drop solo!

  • There isn't a solo in Life by the Drop...

  • prince is fucking trash

  • I must disagree with U on that. He's one of the greatest pop musicians ever...watching that clip put me in the mindset of a young Prince so it was only appropriate that they showed him after.

  • just diff types of music both legend and bailey are great performers. their music just doesnt capture u as much as johns blues riffs and solo could

people just see that and respect it more

    john is absolutely amazing tho

    incredible artist

    amazing performance

    even prince applauded

    which he rarely rarely does

  • I N C R E D I B L E ! ! !

  • John Legend and Corinne Bailey need to get the fuck off the stage.

  • Gotta love how John destroyed them all with that solo. He made the other two look like amateurs.

  • Gotta give him credit John killed that shit , good job

  • god he's amazing

  • absolutely phenomenal performance
