  • When is the ice thick enough for a vehicle to drive across it?

  • I'm not sure of the minimum thickness, but when I came down from the ice road last week it was 1.7 meters (6 ft)

  • Ever since seeing Ice Road Truckers, I have wanted to visit the north of Canada, I'm from New Zealand, which is about as far away as you can get from the NWT.

  • wow i cross that river so many times on the ferry and ice road

  • i have been on that ferry many times

    though i live in Alberta

  • Nice Video!

I would love to vist the noth of Canada too.

  • I would love to go to yellowknife someday. Do you have to pay for the ferry?

    Great Video thanks.

  • No it's free. Go there now and drive on the ice. :)

  • I would be way too cold and scarry for me :)

    do you live there?

  • No. I live in southern BC.

  • ferry is free

  • crossed that river only when it was frozen over. great ferry footage!!

  • It should be frozen pretty soon. They were having trouble closing the gap but it's gotten colder now. Won't be long

  • Great video

  • Thanks Pete

    5*S

  • Thanks Jepp

  • Cool...we have a ferry service like that here just outside of Sarnia Ontario as well.

  • Thanks Todd.

  • Very funny! And are you on the Achteson Topeka Line? Or just pulling in to Chatanooga Sation?

A Trains. B Trains. I C that you are joshing with me!

  • I wasn't joshing Anna. They used to have A trains (2 trls hooked together with a single or tandem converter). Then they made it so the lead trl had a set of tandem axles that could slide back to attach to the rear trl. This was a B train. Now we have 3 axles between the lead and pup. This is a Super B train. That's what we drive now and what was loading on the ferry.

  • Oh man. Isn't YouTube great? Now I've made a dork of myself in front of people who know this stuff. That said, thanks for your patience and for explaining it to this 'civilian'.

  • No prob.

  • BTW, what exactly does "B Train" mean? Butane? Big? (Ok, I'm just guessing) Curious minds want to know.

  • B trains as opposed to A trains silly! :p

  • Ahhhh........this is the ferry that will take YOU across the MacKenzie, TruckerMcD!!! Some of us are content to watch from the shore, LOL! Kudos on a great vid. ("....Presto Chango...." Nice touch!

  • Thanks Anna. You liked my slight of hand, did you!:)

  • Indeed I did!!!! Who among us doesn't enjoy slight of hand, LOL!

    (Sleight, slight)

  • big ass ferry!

  • There's not enough water for a larger ferry. It's already running aground.

  • great video

  • Thanks Brandon. I appreciate it.

  • I believe we are building a bridge here in New Brunswick and trucking it to somewhere on the Mackenzie river to be assembled, cool video ,enjoyed it..

  • There building it right next to the ferry dock. Small world. Thanks for watching. Part 3 will have your bridge in it.

  • way to cool,be lookin forward to it..

  • And now the company that was doing it is in financial troubles, some parts of it have already been placed in bankruptcy, and maybe the whole group will be soon.

  • this is cool, ive never seen nothing like that before

  • Come on up here for the winter. It's a whole other ball game. It's a truckers paradise. :)
