Genghis Khan only killed innocents when either the city's majority or the city's leaders decide not to surrender. When people DID surrender, Genghis treated them with amazing kindness, even if other Mongolians didn't. He even punished his own son at one point for killing the prisoners they captured from a surrendered city in Persia. So yeah, I'd still be on his side. Not to mention the religious freedoms allowed in the Mongolian Empire were far greater than either Europe or the Islamic world.
@vorjay Yeah, because theyre the only ones who have done that! The difference is that some do that and nothing more. Say what you want about atrocities that are commited in war, but creating the worlds largest empire in one lifetime is quite the feat in my book.
@vorjay Im not saying that its okay to do evil just because you do good in other ways, just that theres hardly any armed conflicts, rising empires etc without any evil. And to be honest, Hitler for instance DID do some good stuff, unless you count exterminating jews, cripples etc. He took a poor and battered country, created jobs and made the country flourish. But Im not saying that hes a good person because of that, but theres usually two sides of the coin.
@PondscumArgonian No! I see your point perfectly. It's okay if you commit atrocities as long as you shake the world when you do it. I mean why actually try to improve health care for all...lets just kill the sick and crippled. Why try and to create a functioning democracy when you can just kill the opposition. Why try and making all races live in harmony when you can just annihilate the minorities.
Chingiz Khan was nothing more than a bandit. He set Russia back 300 years.
@vorjay hmmm how many people other great leaders killed? I am sure not lesser and badder than Genghis Khan :D .... Example : Roman emperors , Alexander the Great , Soviet rulers , Turkish Rulers , British Empire's Queens and Kings

@PondscumArgonian lol okay
You just condoned Hitlers Germany and the Soviet Union....give yourself a pat on the back.
There's still fields in central asia that you cannot grow crops on because the Mongols laid the fields with salt so nothing would grow.
