  • Early 70's, Hagley Junior School, Worcestershire - we all trooped in for assembly and this kid was there whacking the drums, playing along to Led Zepplin. It was Jason and he was awesome and I started to learn guitar after that. My little sister was in his class and I would guess he was six or seven years of age.

  • Jason mentioned in this video - rode dirt bike racing. Will Jason remember the 2 day schoolboy meeting at Hawkstone Park-Shropshire, sponsorship of the meeting was his Dad. He provided a brand new Motocross Suzuki bike for every class winner of the weekend. It was a fab weekend and should be repeated. Should contact the lads that rode that weekend including Jason and have a memory ride round Hawkstone. My contact is nevillecookson77@live.com

  • looks nothing like his dad

  • Great Guy ... but in the family tradition, I get the impression you wouldn't want to piss him off when he's had a few.

  • bonzo>george lol

  • 2:24

    what

  • he seems like a very well adjusted celebrity's kid. rare. kudos to john. hard to do what dad became famous for. very few surpass their father's claim. i'd like to do some research on celebrity's sons who do better than dad in the same medium. douglas fairbanks, jr. perhaps? of course, that was a whole other medium, wasn't it? i mean, silents vs. talkies? any thoughts? but anyway, just to hear rodgers teasing kirke he could be replaced by a kid..ha! that's funny to me, being an insecure drummer

  • Drummers, study jazz drummers of the past. If you learn how to play "jazz," you'll be able to play anything.

  • Too bad his not horrible dad drank himself to death. He had a good life despite that because his parents were decent people and it was 40 yrs ago. Same scenario today, different result. It's a different world.

  • I'm trying to imagine George being chucked out of a window by Bonzo haha

  • @ZeppelinFan757 haha yea, tht is pretty funny...I like Jason, he seems like a nice guy!

  • @ZeppelinFan757

lol wen he said tht i chuckled

    like what a badass

  • Attention Drummers/musicians!!! Get the book "realistic rock" by Carmine Appice!! If you like 60's-70's rock drumming it's the Bible. It turned my hopeless brother into a real rock guy. He would work on it every day and half way through the book and after learning the first Zeppelin record beat for beat he would go back to the jams and sound exactly like Simon Kirk of Free and Bad Company...with bonham fills to boot. It could save rock drumming im serious. Amazon.com

  • baldness sometimes comes with age...how old is jason early 40's...about right . bonzo was only 32 when he died...being his father or his mother genes sometimes does not matter ...sometimes it skips a generation or two ...my grandfather went bald at 28 ..i'm 49 with a full head of hair down to the middle of my back my mother is the same also my father has a full head of hair but groomed but my kids will more likely have a problem

  • awersome interview

  • @mrtamberineman123 Because the baldness gene comes from your mother's side. Just because your dad is bald doesn't mean your going to bald.

  • How the hell can he be bald??? his father John wasnt bald???

  • @mrtamberineman123

but hes not john now is he?

  • @NESmeetsCORE Male pattern baldnes runs in families from the fathers side, John didnt suffer from male pattern baldness so why does his son???

  • @mrtamberineman123 wrong...hair runs usually from the MOTHER's side of the family.

  • @mrtamberineman123

Baldness is a trait the travels through the mothers DNA. Also Jason is now older than John was when he passed....it is entirely possible that John could have lost his hair when he hit 40.

  • How cool is this guy....totally in touch and honest beyond words.

  • You must have known the Mudflaps.

  • 500th like yeah!

  • Someone should get togeather with other people and do a four book set, each book would be about the four members of Led Zeppelin.

  • UFO'S showtime is one of the greatest dvd's i've ever seen.Jason Bonham joined UFO,and they recorded "YOU ARE HERE" which is one of their finest albums. Also alot of great interviews on the history of the band. It's a double dvd set.On the second disc it's a great live show with Jason Bonham also Vinnie Moore,Phil Mogg,The amazing Pete Way (Pete was also with WAYSTED &FASTWAY)and Paul Raymond. If you have never seen This dvd,GET IT.

  • I hope you always stay like this, Jason. Never let celebrity go to your head; that'd make you father proud!

  • @scribe3s

He can't hear you!...... You'll have to speak up!

  • HES GOT TO BE PRETTY DAM GOOD

pagey used him touring & he stood in for his dad at the 02 arena so . . . . . . .

"prob plenty better than most of you "

who say hes not that good !

  • didnt u vacation with the beatles!!!?

  • pick up the sticks, your dad would be so proud! BONZO

  • 'Throwing George Harrison out of windows was all in a days work for John Bonham.

  • saw him in concert

  • @Anticks72 do u think it would be better?

  • Just stick with what you like Jason...

  • is his godfather john paul john cuz john was extremely close to him

  • @JackKulaTV1 i wonder too

  • Your dad would be very proud Jason...I can see him looking at you...harder son give it some...

  • Can only imagine what Bonzo's drumming would be like if he had quit drinking

  • @Antiks72 Can't say for sure that he would have been better. His playing was the culmination of everything he was and everything he did. Just like some great pieces of literature were enhanced by drugs or alcohol. Imagine if the Beatles never tripped or got high. They would still be playing She Loves You. It would have nice if he at least CONTROLLED his drinking so that he could at least have lived a while longer but it just wasn't in the cards. RIP JB.

  • @Antiks72 Ithink it would be the same, you can't improve on perfect.

  • It seems he had a GREAT DAD He loved his alcoholic daddy to death, just like I loved mine....

  • You can tell ..... This man parents loved him and raised him well... you can tell ......

  • @tomthefunky what if we're zep heads and who fans, should we make it into a Dr.seuss story?

  • Great video thanks for posting

  • Thank you Jason for your interview.

  • He got mad if his grades were bad. Lol Bonzo didnt do great in school either haha.

But he was an awesome drummer.

R.I.P-To many drummers wjho have died too soon. :(

  • The orgies the parties the drugs... we are talking about a man who drank himself to death yeah? get real he was out of control a terminal alchoholic and he was violent. What the fuck is funny about destroying JPJ's room with a sword or throwing George Harrison out of a window? Dont give me that rock and roll bullshit..the band were legendary but lets not sanitise his death it was a stupid wasteful tradgedy because he was surrounded by yes men, fans and fuckwits glorifying his slide into oblivion

  • @euqsabtnatillim

the sword shit is funny.. and who knows what happened with the George harrison shit.. maybe they wee all fucked up and having fun.

it is a tragedy that he died like that..

  • @highon74 I did laugh initially, none of us are angels.... but then the reality of his death hit me I was 18 and listening to "in through the outdoor" then he was dead what a fucking waste and it was the end of an era. Zep went through the punk era and still had credibility. At the time that was the mark of cred- not having the young punk movement declare you a boring pold fart.

  • @euqsabtnatillim fuck you you dick if you criticise him like that!! why arent you the greatest drummer that ever lived? cause ur not john bonham cause john bonham is god and always will be

  • @euqsabtnatillim Thanks. All true.

  • @euqsabtnatillim

He was a bit of a loose cannon, that's a given. But listen to his son talking here. John Bonham was a good father, despite all of the BS in his life. I respect him for it.

  • Phil Collins > John Bonham.

  • @Yyyyzyyy u r an idiot

  • @Yyyyzyyy

    lol

  • Jason, your dad has left us with great music and memories too. The Zep will never be bettered. Bonzo forever.

  • yeah..through them beatles out the windows into pools

  • i saw this guy last sunday

  • Hotel rooms are the baaain off drummers lives i swear :P xDDD

  • "The man that threw George Harrison from a second story balcony into a swimming pool" .........LMAO.

  • I wanna have John Bonham as my Daddy and call Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Robert Plant uncle Jimmy and uncle John and uncle Bobby :(

  • @razhidiz Thats because youre family sucks

  • @DrummingBonham it's 'your' you dumbass.... learn how to spell

  • @razhidiz Um the "e" is very close to the letter "r" on the keyboard... i must of accidently typed it... I know how to type with more than one finger like your ingnorant ass...

  • @razhidiz Uncle Bobby??!?! How bout' we keep it at Uncle Robert k?

  • Jason will never be a ground breaking drummer.

  • Too bad things will never be the same. Good Luck out there

  • Also, it's strange to think that Jason is now older than John Bonham ever was. Time flies.

  • Bonzo always was a family man, that's why he sometimes went wild on tour because he missed home so much and got down, so he'd drink. I think it's really lovely how he always cared for his children & wife.

  • Just walked in my door from seeing Jason Bonham's Led Zep experience.....WOW... a lot better than I would have ever of thought. Very well done....hats off Jason... I had a great time...well worth the time and money spent. I do not buy many concert t shirts.....but I felt I needed one from this show...... I will wear it proudly..... Kashmer... was fantastic...... thanks guys for a nice nite of rock......Greg in Detroit.................................

  • Jason came to the planet to play drums - he could also do other things! But I honestly think John's greatest achievement was letting his boy have his drum stool with Zeppelin! - as a drummer I can not imagine anything more loving or better! I would have cut off my head to play drums with Zep!

  • its weird this is what i would expect bonzo to look like now if he were still alive, i thought his son would be some 20 - 30 year old long haired drummer in a underground metal band

  • @MegaCartoonguy That's what every one who knew him personally says too. They have always said that John Bonham was a good husband and good father. It was alcohol that destroyed him.

  • Wow, I never knew the bit about John throwing George Harrison from the second story into a swimming pool. Thanks for posting!

  • what is hilarious is his throwing George off the 2nd floor!

  • you should have ANN WILSON sing for zep

  • He comes across as an ok guy, and obviously he play the drums but would he get as far in the business if he wasn't John's son?

  • @RacManRhythm How "far" as he actually got?

  • @CnutRexAnglorum I missed a few words as it was late at night and was tired, but what I meant was, I don't think he'd get the recognition or have the career in the music business as he does today if it wasn't for who his dad was, he seems as I said a very ok going guy in this interview, and by getting far I meant playing for Led Zeppelin a few yrs back and the publicity he got through it.

  • john bonham's birthday is may 31 1948, my birthday is may 31 1984. pretty f-in cool !!!!!

  • jason sounds like he could be a very cool guy

  • @queenfan No it was a pool, George Harrison threw the top decker of bonhams birthday cake unto his face, so bonzo threw him into a pool. :P

  • drew drums, your ass was well and truly kicked. just because you have a tiny pee-pee doesn't mean you have a right to speak - when ANY of us on this thread want your opinion, we'll give it to you. all of my statements stand, "at face value."

i waited months because unlike you, my life doesn't revolve around youtube, you dateless security guard.

they tell us you love to suck a cock.

** btw - i box, so step to me bitch and i'll break yo' jaw, homo.

  • @caesarcerf Step to you ? You insulted me you basement living, mouth-breathing ass clown. You got owned because you typed before you thought. Own up to it, and then just move on. I agree, as to youtube not being the center of the universe. But if you are gonna reply at least have a basis behind you. I'm loving the fact you are trying to speak for others when you cannot even form a complete sentence. And you box .... WOW that's awesome man. Hows that going for you ? ROFL I'm terrified LOL

  • Good Drummer.

    Led Zep awsome.

  • Seems like a proper nice geezer.

    True what he says.

    "All our upbringings are "normal".

As the only kid in my class to not have a dad, I remember kids saying (not unkindly) "What's it like, not having a dad?"

I always used to pause and then say "What's it like having a dad?".

    "Normal" they would say.

    "Normal" I would reply.

  • @5ebD good response

  • @5ebD You are a good guy. My Dad is died when I was 13. God bless you. You're not the only one friend.

  • I absolutely just adore Jason Bonham ... he seems so incredibly cool; just a very nice, down to earth, decent man. The love, respect and admiration Jason has in his heart and soul for his father is so genuine and deep ... very heartwarming. Your dad would be proud of you, Jas ... just as we are.

  • ultramegax! oops. you're quite correct. i meant Neil Pert. thanks for swooping in.

  • part ii - only good AND bad music to quote Oscar Peterson. the only two kinds! thus Bonham would NOT stare in amazement you fool at "so many," of today's drummers. he would simply say, "bland, bald technique in the service of bad music."

yes Buddy Rich - superb, the best, though you're dead wrong that was not JPJ's favorite. yes, some of today's drummers, wonderful. i defy you to name ONE, one who is as musical as Bonham. and Bonham is NOT my fav. by a long shot.

  • @caesarcerf LOL You fuckin idiot. Bernard Purdie would drown Bonham in his groove and Tony Williams would school him in musicality. Those are just two. Not to mention Dave Weckl, Vinnie Caluita , Billy Cobham, Peter Erskine, Gary Novak etc etc etc. Dennis Chambers is the wildcard here. Just as much thunderous groove, twice the speed and 4 times as technical. Fuck you idiot, and reply to my post next time so I can bitch slap your monkey ass in a decent amount of time instead of months.

  • drewdrums76, your argument is idiotic. no, JPJ was not nor said, he was the greatest of all time. however, your argument is simplistic and idiotic. first of all, jpj was far more technical than you state driven entirely by wrist, not shoulder strength. secondly while technique is important, alex lifeson like technique means NOTHING. it is not musical. just as steve perry's singing is not musical. he can hit notes - it still sucks. there is only good and bad art. part ii follows.

  • @caesarcerf

I'm confused. Are you trying to say that Alex Lifeson is a bad guitarist? Maybe listen to 2112 off of Different Stages (Disc 1). He's certainly no God, but he's very respectable, and has written some great stuff over the years.

  • what a nice guy.

  • Can u people please stop with the "greatest of all time garbage". Sure he was a legend and influenced a million or more drummers, including myself, but there were drummers around before him and much more after him that were more talented. Take for instance Billy Cobham or Tony Williams or Bonzo's idol BUDDY RICH. He had an amazing thunderous groove and world class independence but there are SO many drummers alive today that he could only stare in amazement and watch if he was still alive.

  • @DrewDrums76 take it easy man!

  • @DrewDrums76

There are youtube guitarists who have better technique than Jimi Hendrix, but I don't think they threaten his status as (perhaps) the GOAT, because he has something they don't. His music is able to take you places. Just like Bonzo, whose haunting thunder on Kashmir can carry you away to a far off place. The drummers of today blistering away on their octuple bass pedals and whatever else can't do that. Bonzo. The best drummer? Probably not. The greatest? Definitely.

  • @EvDuaneWilliams Being the GOAT when in reference to music or most other things in life can really boil down to preferences. Like for instance, the particular genre of music. To many Jazz drummers Buddy Rich is arguably the best but not to all. And these same people would laugh you off the website if you tried to argue Bohnam over Rich. IMHO there are too many genres and too many just amazing drummers to name one as the GOAT. That to me, is pure preference.

  • @DrewDrums76 Well said!

  • @DrewDrums76 Yup...apples and oranges.

  • Bonham JH Il Miglior batterista di TUTTI I Tempi ..... e 'Lui Che ha LASCIATO UNA traccia indelebile su TUTTI I batteristi che SONO Venuti DOPO .. non e' mai uno Stato Secondo Nessuno .....

  • no one ever played a kit like Mr Bonham, don`t argue. If you do, come round and we will discuss it.

  • Thanks for posting. "Greatest drummer of all time"? I think some of you are seeing this with your hearts and not your minds - with all due respect.

  • @cjk9013 so he was second best behind keith moon- not that far off

  • JH Bonham had a weakness or two. Don't we all? Seems like he tried to do the best he could, but died accidentally. Jason is obviously a great guy!

  • i knew john bonham was a different soul...

jason bonham is telling the truth!!!!

  • PS PEOPLE I MADE A DRUM VIDEO COMPILATION I TOTALLY NEED COMMENTS ON IT, check my profile the first vid is Greatest 60 Drum Songs of Rock n Roll 60-44

  • does jason bonham have a son??

  • yep, he's called jager i think. don't call me on that one that, theres videos of him getting taught on jason's official youtube

  • kewl story bro

  • ever thought of the possibility of bonham sr. wearing a toupet??

  • Away from the music, there's yet more evidence of a cultural trend here. Jason Bonham has lost his hair but his father hadn't. This is happening frequently; sons losing their hair when their fathers never. Very strange.

  • male baldness is attributed to your mother. If your moms dad is bald. you will be.

  • @KINGofALLtheMERCIANS Male hair loss comes from a dominant gene from the mother. I guarantee you that his mother's father was bald.

  • i hate the fact how everybody says jason bonham sucks well the reality is he had the best teacher on earth john bonham so i wonder if his bad now

  • @zellofhell he said that he doesnt even remember being taught but im not saying he sucks

  • Clearly the Christian cross around his neck does not mean he's a Christian. If he was a Christian he wouldn't reference his dad being truly a Gemini. Star signs are incompatible with Christian orthodoxy.

    Whatever.

  • Who cares, we're not watching a Sunday service bozo...

  • your mom cares

  • or maybe most christians are confused and hypocritical...

  • Many are. Not sure about "most".

Confused and hypocritical like non-Christians as well.

  • well your a great drumer Jason you play, you feel.

  • Did he say that his dad threw George Harrison out of a window?

  • I heard that too!

  • @Queenfan778 Yes, and it is true. George Harrison then commented that it was the greatest party he had ever been to.

  • classy guy

  • I Wish John Bonham was my dad!

  • What a perfect feel you give there, Jason. But as you said, and frankly, with what seems to be the most honnest speech, things get a little exagerated, with time. That said, the life of a rock star isn't a nice match for being a "perfect" father; being a one wife match and being sober in the afternoon !!!! And a last thing, your father killed himself with his "work". That trylly ain't father wise.

  • its too bad the project with jpj page and jason never worked out, even if its not Led Zeppelin it would be a kickass band.

  • Bonzo was a legend. If you play Zeppelin loud enough, I'm sure his drumming could make you shit yourself.

  • Jason is a beautiful person x

  • @willyschoonover this is his son

  • its john bonham son's :S

  • There was only ONE Bonzo. There's never been anyone quite like him behind the drums. THE POWER he projected back there is unequalled. I know it's cliche to say something like this about a musician...but in this case it's not cliche or overstated to say that John Bonham was the best rock drummer of all time. Jason is a good player too and sounds a lot like his dad. Cool to hear his remembrances.

  • god bless ya mate your dad was a god!

good to see you on the sticks

  • Nice to hear him talk about his dad like this. When you see him (Jason) sitting behind the huge kit in the TSRTS. And you see the pride in Bonzos eyes its evident that he really loved his kid.

  • Bonzo's drumming just amazes me every time I listen to him play. On Good Times Bad Times and Moby Dick, he just plays so well; he hits the base drum like he has double pedals and it just boggles my mind how he does that every time. So freaking fast with that base.

  • hahahahahahahaha i never knew john bohnam destroy jpj's room with a samurai sword in tokyo HAHAHAHHA thats so fucking hilarious

  • hahaha classic

  • @orangetransformer Loool.

  • @orangetransformer John Bohnam and Richard Cole ;)

  • i love bonzo and the rest of led zeppelin

  • @billicobham

please put dogshit in your mouth

  • Can you imagine trying to live up to being anything musically living in the shadow of the greatest drummer of all time? Think before you comment next time.

  • I don't think he was that worried about Keith Moon.

  • @angelofrock420 No, actually you should think before you comment, you fucking moron. It's your OPINION that JB is the greatest drummer of all time....and universally, that's not necessarily true because there are quite a few of the most highly regarded drummers out there...Neal Peart, Stewart Copeland, Keith Moon, Boddy Rich, etc. So, fucking moron, quit your whining just because not everyone agrees with you, you disgusting scumbag.

  • @meccaturbo you obviously don't regard them since you arn't spellin their names right

  • Good for JASON : p

You chose the right journey. CARRY ON !

  • Apart from the lack of hair,he don't half look like his dad

  • then again nobody never got to see john bonham reach the age of jason

  • What exactly does he say on 2:26?

"The man that threw George Harison..."

I can't understand the rest of the sentence...

  • that would be correct.

  • Thanks for the reply but I meant what he did he say after that... that was all I could understand, but does he say after that?

  • Comment removed

  • from a second story balcony into a swimming pool.

  • Thanks.

  • @iuricastro22 "into a swimming pool".

  • Thanks.

  • @iuricastro22

into a swimming pool from a second story balcony.

Bonzo evidently did this because George Harrison karate chopped his birthday cake in half, according to an interview with Robert Plant I read.

  • Cool! HAHA

  • john was so amazing!

  • we used to drink in a bar in kidderminster years ago when i just about qualified to be served we played pool i was having trouble with my dad and jason told me he was like an orphan and i respected him for that. he was a good pool player too in those billy idol days late 80s. years later i saw his album in a shop but i was lost with no money and well god knows ' keep on rockin in the free world

  • i think its cool, how he was an awesome drummer in a huge band but he gave his son a normal upbringing.

not like half these 'celebrities' today, bringing their children into the spotlight with stupid clothing lines and all that

  • I think Jason is a great guy in general and a great drummer. Wish I could see him live!!

  • One of the main reasons why John was so crazy on the road and why he drank so much was that he missed his wife and child a lot they were his world, Zepplin were his mates but his family was his world. Thats why he was a lot "sainer' around his family. Read Hammer of The Gods ..great book.

  • yeh agree but he has a daughter too Zoe

  • hammer of the gods is full of untruths

  • thats awesome to hear, john was taken way too soon

  • agreed, I miss the man, the music, I often wonder what the last 29 years would have brung us had he srvived and still played. I have all the songs and long for more
