sorry deedelove...this is closed system suctioning like Ballard. The suction catheter in enclosed in a sterile bag that means it does not need to be done as sterile technique. You may want to ask your instructor to explain the difference.
The very first thing you do is check the patient's ID bracelet!! You need to make sure it matches up with the patient's chart. Because there have been incidents where procedures were done on the WRONG PERSON, and when that happens, THAT IS NOT GOOD YOU ALWAYS want to make sure you check the ID bracelet. VERY FIRST THING ALWAYS Just a little tip to help you all.
