I've been playing D&D since 2nd edition. I recently came from a game where the players started off as slaves forced into cage fights I usually play Human great sword wielding fighters my favorite character was a lvl 15 Chaotic good fighter that wielded a +3 keen great sword and also had improved critical he was in a 3rd edition game. Unfortunately at those lvls is when you find out how good a dm you have because it either gets too powerful and loses control of game or manages balance.
oh how i have missed watching these video's. im a little more seasoned in D&D now but i still have not found a game that is as fun as your game looks. even though my one voice isn't gonna be enough to get you to load more weekly game, i am begging for more video's. yes i am a huge fan
@LoodleRyuzaki dude, it's beyond fun. I just played for the first time on Wednesday. We're playing 4th Edition and I've never laughed so hard as when i rolled two consecutive 1's and almost killed our fighter :)
Yah, I can relate to this. Only a person how played this before can understand how much fun this game really is. It's making me miss those nights out...

@Dumezil357 well dnd is all about having fun and a good laugh with your buddies! of course i agree with you but no 100%. i believe that you should equally divide the session time between having a blast off-game by screwing around, having a blast in game by doing something in character funny and role playing it and having a serious and dramatic or tough moment in game which of course also counts as a 'fun' time. as i said dnd is all about having fun. even if you play a very serious campaign.
lvl 11 tiefling spell thief. With a drow fighter a priest of palor and a sorceress from another plane and now a necromancer. and some stupid archer my friend made so his ex gf could play with us :D 3.5 ftw love d&d so fun 18 ranks in tumble with at 4d6 sneak attack plus 1d6 from a fire gem in my barbed dagger and the 1d6 electric it does is insane for a sneaky character like a spell thief i wanna play again :(

Yes its very nice edition. When i first saw it i was disappointed a little but in time i got excited with it. Its sad that most people dislike it so much.... They are stuck to the past
i dont view it as stuck in the past. i tried 4th, its just not my game. WoW on paper isnt why i decided to play D&D, it looks like alot of fun, but from a hack and slash point of view.
@Luguolo I believe that they roleplaying part remained the same good and they just changed the way of battle into a more realistic one. There are more races which are very interesting. And they have fixes issues like very powerful low level fighters while mages had just one magic missile at 1st level for example and then they attacked with a crossbow that was ridiculous for me! Or the bard is now a powerful leader not just a useless spokesman of the party! Rogue much better too!
fair enough on some of the power balances, and i am not sure about the new races (like which ones?) but 4.0 was alot of hack and slash, the role playing isnt built into the game anymore, it has to be added. also, i play a bard, and find him VERY versitile in battle, i dont even speak for my party. the idea of one spell and then crossbow, while hard to play, was realistic, a low level mage didnt rely on his spells, even high levels shouldnt. and at low level a mage can fight as good as anyone.

a summery is a bit hard, and different from person to person, but for me it put alot in the hands of the DM and players. alot of it was guidelines more then rules, and left specific roles to specific people. i found that it wasnt as complicated as alot of people played it up to be once you wrapped your head around WHY they were doing certain things.
1st ed, 1st ed adnd and adnd 2ed are real dungeons and dragons made by tsr, wotc has a pen and paper game they title dnd but it is not real dungeons and dragons, your playing a game made by a group of people who are also known for creating pokemon trading card game.
@TheMarinzek thats just your opinion like mine is both have there pros and cons I started playing with 3.5 and started 4th becuase I thought it would be a good Idea to stay with the current edition.
That kid playing at the left end of the table is very annoying i get hes trying to be funny but he keeps interrupting everyone including the DM a lot.
Mmm, well, I'm not sure. Maybe E-tools, though I'm not sure if there is an updated one for 3.5 or if it can incorporate all the supplemental material. The only version I have is 3.0, which does in a pinch for NPC's, but not so much for PC's.
I enjoy playing 4th ed. But along with the other response, it also makes it almost required to buy the mini's for the game, and focuses more on Combat and Roll-Playing and less Role-Playing.
I don't even know what the other people's classes are sometimes. We do have intros at the end of this episode, although I've neglected to do any more since despite several roster changes.
Too bad you didn't start taping at the beginning. Did they "meet at a tavern"? ;) Do all the players bring chars or do they roll them up together at the table?
Yeah, I didn't get my camera operational until after Christmas, but no, we didn't meet in a tavern. We met in a dungeon. :P Well, the original group, anyway, those still present being Felix and Charles' gnome Gartik. We've had a high rate of character turnover in this game. Generally we bring our characters. Mitch trusts us, although characters are often rolled up there due to death...
If you're looking to get your hands on the rules, the books are easy to find on places like Amazon (and generally cheaper than in stores)...and if you're resourceful, most of the books can be found using P2P programs.
As much as I hate to admit it, 4th ed may be easier to pick up. You might want to check around to see what groups in your area are playing and try that. If there aren't any groups, it doesn't really matter because you can play pretty much any version of the game in pbp (play-by-post)...although it'd be much easier to learn in a real group.
ok cuz i got some friends that wants to play but never has played. but we could start with 4th ed and once we got a hold of things we can try 3rd ed right? without going crazy.... more crazy i mean? ^^
WoW you guys are pretty cool...perhaps i should tape my dnd group...hmmm....but seriously you guys seem like a good group of players and have a good sense of humor.
Mitch's setting is actually vaguely steampunkish. We have zeppelin-style airships and gun, although we're working on getting a new way to power the ship (or at least that's the warforged's goal).
Well, Mitch could tell you better, but basically the rules for crossbows are transparent with guns, although guns are expensive and do more damage. It's like a d6 for pistols, I know that, and shotguns do more or less damage depending on how close you are to the target.
At the end of the episode I will have everbody introduce their characters, but for now, the paladin is James, the warforged is Travis, and the guy in the iron maiden top is Alex.

If you're looking to get your hands on the rules, the books are easy to find on places like Amazon (and generally cheaper than in stores)...and if you're resourceful, most of the books can be found using P2P programs.
fairydragon 3 years ago
ok thx ii'l try to get the books for the 4th edition... does it sound like a good idea or should i get something else?
SecretPanda 3 years ago
As much as I hate to admit it, 4th ed may be easier to pick up. You might want to check around to see what groups in your area are playing and try that. If there aren't any groups, it doesn't really matter because you can play pretty much any version of the game in pbp (play-by-post)...although it'd be much easier to learn in a real group.
fairydragon 3 years ago
ok cuz i got some friends that wants to play but never has played. but we could start with 4th ed and once we got a hold of things we can try 3rd ed right? without going crazy.... more crazy i mean? ^^

the dwarf is the DM now? lol AWSOME!!
Airships?? FinalFantasy style DnD?
puppetmaster2122 3 years ago
Mitch's setting is actually vaguely steampunkish. We have zeppelin-style airships and gun, although we're working on getting a new way to power the ship (or at least that's the warforged's goal).
fairydragon 3 years ago
sweet me and my friends actually have a steampunk session going on too :D
may i ask how guns work in your game?
puppetmaster2122 3 years ago
Well, Mitch could tell you better, but basically the rules for crossbows are transparent with guns, although guns are expensive and do more damage. It's like a d6 for pistols, I know that, and shotguns do more or less damage depending on how close you are to the target.

Fucking sweet! More fairydragon...my life has meaning again!

At the end of the episode I will have everbody introduce their characters, but for now, the paladin is James, the warforged is Travis, and the guy in the iron maiden top is Alex.
