A Mickey Newbury 'masterpiece' composition. Not only did Dawn Sears does the the most moving and emotionally evocative version of this beautiful ballad but she dedicated it to the 'memory' and musical beauty of John Hughey,my favorite pedal steel player. Thanks Dawn !
THE best version of THE prettiest song, I have ever heard. Mickey Newbury was at his best when he wrote this. Oh how this song would sound at Carnegie Hall.
OMG.....This is some of the best singing and playing I have ever heard in my life.....Every time I watch this video, it brings tears to my eyes.....God bless these ultra talented people who work by day in the studios of Nashville and play this music for nothing every Monday night and the "Station"....Honestly, if my health and wallet (living on SSA) would let me, I would drive to Nashville from Raleigh just to see and hear them in person.
I am blown away by the voice of Dawn Sears.....the band are excellent too. Never heard of them before tonight, I just stumbled on this video and now I am going looking for all the others that they have on YouTube.
Wonder what those young tight asses think when they hear some one like Dawn sing? Do you think it ever crosses their minds that this is what country music is supposed to sound like?? Those brilliant "so called" producers and record company executives in Nashville have no clue what country music is. All they understand is money!! Mr Acuff is doing back flips in his grave as we speak.
So wonderful, a great vocalist, great musicians including one of the finest pedal steel guitar players ever and one of the finest gentleman also. Thanks for the memories.
Just a great song performed with excellent vocals, wonderful band including one of the finest pedal steel guitarists the world has witnessed. Thank you all - especially John hughey
I can't just listen to this one time......at least 3 times.it almost makes my heart explode!!!!!!! Anyone who has ever loved and lost (passed) knows what I am saying here........memories..memories....love, after 30 years, and this song brings you back every time I hear it!!!!!!!! Pearl
Dawn Sears has a beautiful voice..............would you sing with me.......lol. Wow and Carolyn Martin is tremendous in harmony.Awesome, thanks for posting,so sweet!
My oldest Brother moved to Nashville after his wife died (live closer to his two sons) and I would visit Bob twice yearly and he would take me and sister to The Station Inn and we were present when this was recorded. We lost Bob in March, he was a veteran of WW2 seeing much action in the Pacific (B17 gunner). This song is almost too much to bear. Thank's for posting
@strawman8 well said! I live in trangie N.S.W and thanks to this site I have had replys from other people suggesting I listen to this. god only knows I hope I get to Nashville one day. this music seems to be gone forever on cmc and I wish there was something we could do about it.
This is some awesome singing and some of the best music you can ever hear. We use to sing this song some time ago. Really brings back some Sweet Memories.
Y'know, I absolutely love this song, but does it have to be SO SLOW? Honestly, even the guitar player, at the end of the song, looks like he just woke up!
@doucetterpj Jeez.....don't mess with "absolute perfection".evidently, you don't feel this song.or you would know why it is done slow..........so it can creep into every corner of your heart!!!!!! "Momma" "Pearl"
Well now I girl I ain't never heard of you till right now...here on YouTube. But I can tell ya this: Now what ya done....well, ya done good. Except for one tiny thing, ya went and got me all misty.
I love listening to you and wherever you are now....who ever the dude is that your missin is one lucky Bro'....to have know you. Best wishes from Home Sweet Oklahoma. Jerry
AMAZING! My dad played steel for many years, and John Hughey was his favorite. He got me hooked on Dawn Sears when he bought her album "Nothin' But Good" Little Orphan Annie is an amazing song from that album.
i have heard this song by many artists but i personally think that dawn and the time jumpers do the best version ever , keep it going i love your music. love scarlette
Dawn Sears voice..............WOW !! I hadn't heard her for a long time. I'm glad I found this video. I don't even have the words to express myself except WOW !!
This is one of my favorite country song that I only play while thinking on one of my very very few sweet memories.Written by my friend the GREAT MICKEY NEWBERRY!! Sang BY DAWN SEARS with the Time Jumpers. The wonderful steel guitar solo is played by THE LEGENDARY JOHN HUGHY.Very very powerful song!!
@tnreb1977 I can hear Connie smith in there also ......the steel player is the late legendary John Hughey , nuf said, just listen to him playing "Look at us " here on you tube and if it dont bring you to tears .....search for Vince Gill singing it and hear the words , Its Mr Hughey playing on his record too.
Sitting here with tears flowing down my face..again. Dawn sings this song better than anyone i've ever heard! She makes the lyrics come alive. This song is especially meaningful to me because the love of my life passed away a few years ago after fighting valiantly for 35 years, the war wounds he received in Vietnam. This song brings comfort to me , but it also reminds me he's not with me anymore except in my "Sweet Memories"

As a steel player I'm always awed by John's intricate playing and the delicate touches he always placed in the songs he played. Aside from that, Dawn Sears and the entire rest of the group are the best I've ever heard. Country music, as it is today, needs to take a long, hard look at the talents and popularity of this group and get back to its ROOTS. There are very few country artists around today who can produce this kind of material and it's at the very heart of REAL country music.
I love this group, I love this song and Ms. Sears has a truly amazing, beautiful and kind of haunting voice. Could sit and listen to her sing all day long. Let me add this the timejumpers are also an amazing talented group. I hope to hear more from them in the future. All I can add is WOW!!!
I had the genuine pleasure of seeing the Time Jumpers just last night, what a great joy. If in Nashville make a special effort to go to The Station Inn on a Monday night and see this group. Carolyn Martin has left the group but this Dawn Sears is special.

This is my Favorite Video, and my Favorite Steel Player. What a talented group of people, There is no ONE Hero, Just a stage of Heros. This what Country Music is supose to sound like. Thanks for Sharing this Gem
God dont we all!!!! I saw her on the opry singing this and i have been a fan since. I got to meet her one of the sweetest and most humble people in the world. LOVE HER!
Every Monday evening at The Station Inn. Be aware. The Jumpers don't start until 9. I got there at 6:30 and there were already 50+ people in line. The place opens at 7 and if you're not there by 7:15, there's no way you're getting in. Vince Gill usually sits in as well. Well worth the wait.
"wandering from room to room, and turning on each light,' O where are lyrics as potent as these in any so-called song assaulting the the airwaves today? There are none. I don't need a library of music anymore---not after hearing this.
I've been a Dawn Sears fan since she first time I saw her on the Ralph Emery show years ago. Saw her a time or two when she toured with Vince Gill and have all of her CD's. She puts all the female singers out there today to shame. They only wish they could sing like this lady!
@TheTimeJumpers YOU GUYS ARE THE ABSOLUTE BEST. SHOULD BE WINNERS EVERY YEAR, DAWN YOU OWN EVERY SONG YOU SING! CAROLYN YOU ARE GREAT!THE WHOLE BAND IS AWESOME!
Fantastic this is ...i have no words beautyful ...great muscisians.. the late great steel player John Hughey in beloved memory ,the vocals is amazing as the rest of the band... it really touches my soul and heart.
This has to be the the most beautiful and romantic song I have ever heard ...sung and played with the most heartfelt voicing. What a band of angels we have here on Earth.
Dawn is one of the most under rated female artist in Country Music. Her talent is not one that can be learned by vocal coaches, nor is the feeling that hits your heart with every word. She truely has a God Given Talent..... And uses it with such finess....
If we graded country music on the curve with this rendition the standard, nothing else would ever be heard. The tripe of today should embarrass us. Dawn is as smooth as John, who's angelic. I've listened dozens of times-----or many more. And the others are not one wit behind.
So many artists make you hear the song they are singing. Dawn Sears and the Time Jumpers make you feel the song they are singing. Amazing...I cry everytime.
This video is a work of love, and supports the saying, "If you can't play well, play loud". No loud music here! Notice how each musician caresses his instrument - no framming and bamming needed! The violin players are as smooth as silk, as well as the old boy on guitar. I don't know his name. These are ordinary folks who simply love music. Papa John, rest his soul, was simply the best on the steel. None other like him! And Kenny looks as if he could eat his wife up at 4:45.
Now this IS talent!!!!! Please excuse the extra Ex marks - I know its bad grammar! But how else can I express my feelings?
Sometimes - and so rarely - a band produces a sound that means a song will NEVER be bettered in its production and projection. I reckon this band have done it with this song!
Faults? - Its too short! :-)
RIP Mr Hughey - you were one of the best!
Thanks for sharing this masterpiece. :-)
One finall point - that drummer is superb! his brushwork is superb! :-)
That`s got to be one of the most beautiful songs i`ve heard, and iv`e heard a lot of songs....John Hughey`s playing is something else.....makes my spine tingle.
This is the sweetest sound that has ever came out of this You Tube Folks. I realize I've already favourited the other similar video you had posted about a year ago, but I will never tire of this song. Sometimes our hearts are suckers for sweet sentimental musical memories like this one. Thanks for posting it again xo

This has to be the the most beautiful and romantic song I have ever heard ...sung and played with the most heartfelt voicing. What a band of angels we have here on Earth.
I cry as I write this.
Thank You for posting this~ Bravo!

Micky Newberry couldn't ask for better for his song! Dawn is an inspiration!

Dawn is one of the most under rated female artist in Country Music. Her talent is not one that can be learned by vocal coaches, nor is the feeling that hits your heart with every word. She truely has a God Given Talent..... And uses it with such finess....

WOW ! This is what is called "chicken skin" music. So good the hairs on my arms stand up and salute. Great stuff.

Oh my goodness that is very emotional . BULKYELBOWS I agree with 100% no loud playing and no overplaying , kept simple and beautiful.

Its like God opened up the doors to heaven and let me stand outside the gates for a few minutes. I agree, this song belongs to Dawn Sears. Thanks.

If any of those "pop country FM divas" heard this, they'd probably hang it up for good. (eat your heart out, Shania & LeeAnn)

Is that Red Volkaert on guitar??
lanadoitch 3 years ago
No, that is not Redd on guitar.

Yea, looks a tad like him, but I always see him with a Tele, not the Barney Kessel

You'll never hear this on FM--it's way too good!

Wonderful! Dawn Sears owns this song! Any other version cannot possibly compare with this!

This is the sweetest sound that has ever came out of this You Tube Folks. I realize I've already favourited the other similar video you had posted about a year ago, but I will never tire of this song. Sometimes our hearts are suckers for sweet sentimental musical memories like this one. Thanks for posting it again xo
