I've flown the A380 and must say that it's a very nice aircraft....as is the 747.But nobody can convince me that the 747 isn't the most *beautiful* aircraft to have ever flown the skies.
You might want to telling that to the daily Delta 747 landing here at LAX every morning. Infact, rumor on Aviation chat circles are that Delta is seeking more used 747s and may taken some JAL ships.
I work at Deltas Headquarters & main Hub in Atlanta. They stopped using the 747s of Northwests fleet & went back to using the 777s & 767s on medium to long hauls
im a part of the delta family i cant use our real names but one of my near relatives is the president of delta...im trying to force him to keep the 747z because hez been thinking about letting go
I flew on Delta back in 2007 when I was traveling overseas, the service and the food were very good, the only thing was forgeting our luagages going overseas and coming back to USA but other then that it was good experience!!
Sorry----but until there is a single operating certificate, this is a NORTHWEST AIRLINES bird. No amount of paint can cover the true heritage of this ship! Flown by Northwest Crews! The only thing that Delta can add is their wonderful "Breezeway" boarding for first class passengers. That is synergy: Northwest Aircraft and know-how coupled with the Delta Breezeway First Class boarding! Huzzah!
True..and I wish it would take 5 years for that to be completed..and 5 years as well to paint up the whole fleet! It'd be cool to have 3 US carrier/paint schemes on passenger 747s again for awhile.
Starboard76 I just love your videos! Especially your 747 videos! Please keep em coming. We need more of your kind on the tube! That is people with access to grate shots that actually care for aviation. Thank you so much for your uploads.
MrJaySaffa, I must say that's one of the most kindest of accolades sent my way...and thank you very much. I really appreciate that. Yes, I am among the most ardent of aviation fans and I am lucky..extremely lucky to have the status that I have. And you can rest assured that I have plans to bring more for people like you who appreciate the hard work (shooting, editing and posting) that make it possible!
Yea I work for Delta Airlines at Los Angeles International Airport on the ramp. I love that 747-400. They usually park it at gate 68B because our terminal doesn't have customs. They have been using Terminal 6...gate 68B eversince Northwest Airlines moved from terminal 2 to terminal 5 at LAX, Northwest Airlines used to operate out of terminal 2 but as soon as Delta merged with Northwest, they went to our terminal.
Normally true regarding NW, but to say that about this plane or any 747-400 then is to say that any plane that is 15-17 years..by your logic makes KLM, British Airways, JAL, Korean Air all having old as hell fleets'.
b747dude, visit flytecomm (dot here) com ... in the Advanced User section, put JFK in that box and click 'go'..you'll get a 'live' listing of all airport arrivals that day at JFK and the airlines flight numbers and aircraft (after you click on that specific link) it's the most accurate out there. You can do it for any US airport and some Canada and Mexico airports as well!
When I lived next to SFO in the mid 80's I recall seeing AA 747's from time to time on their way to Tokyo. I don't remember exactly, but I could swear they had a few 747SP's in their fleet as well.
I worked for AA in 1985. We got 747s again. The old 747s went mostly to NWA and had been leased out to Braniff International previously. The new 747's were for our new NRT service out of DFW, and they were the SP's. If I remember correctly, we innagurated NRT with a 747 SP out of DFW in May of 86. Before that, we had a NRT out of SEA I believe, could be mistaken. In any case it was short lived and was a purchase from CO. MD-11s had perf. issues and would fly SJC-SFO-NRT.
The MD11s were moved and replaced by 747SPs, and the route eventually was permanently moved to SFO. Find a real AA person, they should know the details with AA and their 747s. That was too long ago for me, and I shortly thereafter went to NWA, where I flew this 747 for about 15 years. It may say Delta, but it is NWA. No doubt. ;-)
You need to go to LAX (where this was taken)..between 10am and 1pm any day of the week..and you'll either see this version (a Delta 747) or a Northwest painted-747.. but I'd say next year this time it'll be all Delta 747s as all Northwest 747-400s should be painted by then.
Wow....you're 42 years old, and that comment sounds as if came ditrectly from a 10 year old. Delta had nothing to do with it. I guess when Newsweek shoots footage of Gaza, they say 'brought you by Hamas or Hezbollah"...yeah, listen to you smart guy, you have all the answers. Post more than the lame ONE you have then come back to talk crap...maybe then... it might mean something.
Its not, most of the planes are just still in the Northwest livery! It will take around 2 years to turn all of the Northwest aircraft into Delta aircraft!
I worked for Delta from 1998-2008 and loved it. Took a package when they started offering them to pursue a new career. I still have moments that I miss working for the big "D". But, I still keep in touch with my Delta family. Good times.
oh yeah. i really wished nwa could of stayed. i fly with them to amsterdam all the time. i was kinda pissed to see the airbus a330-300 back to detroit that would normally be in nwa colors, was in the boring white and blue delta colors.

Nice. Good showcase of landing, taxi and take off. It sure is a low clearance on the tail when it takes off. I wonder how many runway incursions the tail has had.
Chill. I was speaking about the 747 family in general and will comment as I wish, whether informed or not. Planes do incur tail strikes, are repaired, and return to service.
I love those 747's ....now THOSE ARE REAL airplanes...I dont know why there not flying more 747's on coast to coast flights like they seem to do along time ago...now i noticed its more of a 5 HOUR JAM PACKED FULL dinky 737 flight with NO room that I happened to be on one time....lol
Yeah you are right. However, It's also not good to pack a bunch of people in a smaller aircraft for a 5 hr flight just to save a few bucks. Airlines too need realize the comfort of the passenger so they can feel encouraged to fly that airline again and NOT go else where since there are many travel options for the customer.
My guess is that by the time the 787 gets delivered (unless Delta cancels the order) there should be ZERO NW painted jets around .. NW will be a memory.
anyone know if these aircraft still have the northwest interior, what about crew uniforms on these flights, is this plane only DL on the exterior and NW on the interior? I feel certain NW crews still operate these flights, just curious
I think he's asking if they NW tossed them...if so, no Singerman..Delta has acquired Northwest Airlines and in about a year or so..there will be no more NW jets in the skies, they'll look like this 747..wearing Delta colors. I hope that answers your question.
I wonder if all of the people who currently work for NWA are going to be layed off, or are going to continue because Delta is getting more aircraft, which will call for more pilots.
Looks weird in delta c/s.I flew rj's 145 under their flag for a year out LAX under express jet.love the L.a. crew.nice and attentive.Nice vid by the way!!

anyone know if these aircraft still have the northwest interior, what about crew uniforms on these flights, is this plane only DL on the exterior and NW on the interior? I feel certain NW crews still operate these flights, just curious

I think he's asking if they NW tossed them...if so, no Singerman..Delta has acquired Northwest Airlines and in about a year or so..there will be no more NW jets in the skies, they'll look like this 747..wearing Delta colors. I hope that answers your question.

i don't think the delta should have been bigger... in fact i think that may be my FAVORITE paint job ever on an 747

I wonder if all of the people who currently work for NWA are going to be layed off, or are going to continue because Delta is getting more aircraft, which will call for more pilots.
