that's why people invented mobile stick. you basically connect your laptop using cell phone's 3G internet with a usb disc. pretty sure it's availible in the UK since north america gets technology stuff much much later compare to asia and europe

obvious option is to wait till you get home to check your emails, im sure most things like that can wait an hour or something.

if you use someones bandwidth, then really you should pay for it, someone in the long run has to, so since you are gaining a benefit from it you should pay for it.
