I´ll probably get lynched or something for saying this, but I think Weckl needs to relax and listen to some Per Lindvall. At least when it comes to simply playing a groove and making it stick, which In my opinion is pretty much what this song originally is all about. ;)

@yodabaggins I disagree. They are both brilliant but have very different styles of playing. Weckl is more of a showoff while Lindvall plays a much mor supportive role in his playing.

That also means Lindvall could never be the "star" that Weckl is, but remains very highly reputed by musicians...

@yodabaggins With respect to your opinion, there are plenty of simple, in the pocket/groove drummers out there. Weckl is not one of them. He is a constant student. He is interested more in what can be done to "expand" the pocket, so to speak. He is the type of player who will always do whatever he can to become more proficient. Lindvall is the type of player who will always do more to serve the song. And I don't think there is anything wrong with either of those things.

I came along the Elektric Band playing Got a Match in 2003, a 10 minute video, and I realized he is not from this planet, LOL. As far as studio jock musicians go, Dave is a great drummer. Can't say that about them all. So often skill replaces feel. That's the secret. You have to be funky to play funk. It's not just a wig you can suddenly put on.

@WoWintosh It's difficult to hear but is has a smaller radius so the sound is higher. He uses it sometimes but its darn difficult to hear when. He is an perfectionist imo so he wants that sound to be there when he needs it. If you pay a lot of attention to the sound you might be able to hear it.
