Let the Day Begin is one of my favorte songs. Got to see The Call in the 90's at a local club in Tucson. I think there was a total of 10 people there.
I knew by listening to your compilations that I'd find at least one winner that sticks out of the group. FOUND!! Thanks so much!!!!! You are doing a service to society, friend!
I think 99 rock used Working on it as part of a weekly get off of work medley of songs along with Todd Rundgrends Bang on the Drum & others. ty for helping me recall that 1 again. :)
The Pasadenas owe you a note of thanks. Because of your video, I just went on iTunes and bought 8 of their songs. Thanks for ALL the forgotten or never-heard of songs from the 80s. You are THE best for posting these videos!!!
Thank you for the feedback. That is exactly my end goal for any artist in these songs... for someone to discover their music and buy it. Look for new videos coming soon. I have a stack of tunes just waiting to be included in a video.
I have so many of these songs on 45, holy crap. Saltwater should have been bigger and in this video instead I think. Paul Shaffer should have never made an album, lol. One of XTC's best songs ever!! I'm surprised I didn't hear Love Has Taken It's Toll by Saraya tho. Never knew anybody knew 'Bullet'. Great choices in here tho..... Timelords, The Graces, Stage Dolls, and wow, Let The Day Begin. People need to hear that song. Kon Kan too. Memories. They sampled Rock Freak to make this!
Hey, Funktuall... thanks for the kind words. I have more on the way. Unfortunately, I had to mute the sound on a few of the songs. You know the drill.
BTW, I wanted to give a similar treatment to some of the songs you have featured. Unfortunately, it has been difficult to find some of the backstory to those artists. It's like they had one release and poof, everyone forgot they existed.
@nccvball May I suggest that if you have to mute a certain song, hit us with a link to song using the annotation, that way people aren't just reading and wondering.
DJ, I have annotations already added that described the problem but you were the first to let me know they were not working. Your idea is great, and I have added the necessary links to the best versions I could find on Youtube. Thanks for help and support.
PS Keep up the good work and spreading the info on the old beats and breaks.
It may have entered the charts in Fall of 1989 and then peaked in the Spring of 1990. That song stands out as a hit that should have gone higher. It must have been released right at the wrong time.
@nccvball: I was on the ARC Archive site. I looked at the listings in the Spring of 1990, and I didn't find anything. However, I did find it listed at the #4 song on December 3rd, 1989 according to the listings on the MBG top 40 site.
Julian was a huge hit in the States when his music was "Beatles-esque". The switch to a modern sound ended the string of hits with the exception of airplay on college radio.
Unfortunately, the Fairground Attraction song would have rendered the entire video mute. Four songs were required to be removed for the majority of the world to hear the sound. Germany is unable to hear the video since two more songs are owned by Sony/Warners/EMI.
I did not know about Meredith Brooks until I started doing research. On YouTube, you can find a performance by The Graces on the Arsenio Hall Show. Almost half these bands played on Arsenio's show that first year.
Just saw there a song about Dr Who and the Tardis. Can't wait to share this with my husband. He's obssed with the Tardis.

You have to love the KLF, I remember when "Justified and Ancient" came out and had Tammy Wynette on vocals. Classic.

My pleasure. Even though "Bang the Drum" was also a minor hit, it has had a whole new life as an after work radio anthem.

That Soulsister song was good, but I always thought it was from the Spring of 1990 because that is when I always heard it on the radio.

A few points:
-Julian's song is his second biggest hit here in Australia, behind 1992's "Saltwater", which was a massive hit for him.
-A pity you couldn't get audio for Fairground Attraction's song, as it's a personal favourite of mine.
-I remember The Timelords well, and it was a big hit here as well.
-XTC's Mayor of Simpleton should've been a big hit too, but wasn't, which is a crime.
-I did not know Meredith Brooks was in a group.
Great work!
