@Floydthefuckbag Everything in the media these day is so dumbed-down and literal that when encounter someone (especially a celebrity) who's subtly humorous or genuinely intelligent we immediately assume that they must be conceited/arrogant. In fact, almost all media is driven by envy, often for for people and things that can't be purchased (like genuine talent, for example). This is why people like the Hilton sisters are media darlings. They don't threaten anyone's ego b/c they're simple
I think if Rufus came out on stage and thought he was "crap" it would unlock so many doors - "crap" has always been the ointment in peoples relationship to music. Then of course his "Crap" would become a number one hit. - just my opinion. cant wait to see him Live in Octobre!
he has had crap happen to him thru out his life and he will always be on his gaurd, but i think he's in a better place, im glad he's still alive never mind making music which he loves.
I haven't seen this show but I was so happy to find inerview that was relaxed and natural and to hear Rufus speak comfortably and so confidently. Soundign as honest as honest as his songs. The interviewer was apparantly just fine for the job - which is to facilitate a forum where one can talk about himself without just talking about himself. It makes it easier. I am am so impressed with his comment re: being a great songwriter. He is. False modesty breed distrust and I am glad I saw this, Thanks
sorry i love Rufus's music ..but..." not leaning on his parents"?Cmon... you dont think having parents who were pr musicans and his growingup inthat atmsophere helped him try being a muisicna inthis world without coming from a musical family or having any family support=he was suppotewrd to be an artist fromthe time he was born his path was made easier by that acceptance
Brilliant artist. Saw him 6x in concert. NOTE: Best concert was Christmas in Montreal, Canada when he appeared with his mom and aunt. One of the few great talents who sounds better live than recorded. NOTE: his recordings are amazing! His singing voice sounds effortless, the song lyrics are genius. A timeless legend
c'mon guys, I think, that if you like the artist watch his videos. If you don't just don't watch them. Don't prowl on people to just bash on their comments, its a wast of time to fight about something on the internet is a waste of time. Right now, I have nothing to might about, I am just trying to make a point.
I was kind of shocked by his comparison of going from a helpless boy to a man (when talking about his reaction to his mom's illness) to that of a monkey becoming a white man. Not something I expected to come out of his mouth.
beavis, his fame has very little if anything to do with his parents. his parents were folk singers and though there is obviously some folk inspiration in some of his work....its completely his own. he has yet to lean on his parents or his sisters fame to further his own career.
Rufus acts like he thinks he is something that he is not. His ego is nauseating. He doesnt have to say he is great nor crappy; it's up to us to decide; and I say he is pretentious and that he should show some humility.
Wtf, your comment is nauseating, why should he show humility for rising up to par of what a good song writer/singer should be? Its somthing to get him motivated even more...It somthing alot of his fans believe aswell...He's geting interviewed because they find him facinating..or talented..or whatever..weather you believe or not.
LimboLinda, we don't all have to like the same musicians, okay? If you like his songs, that's fine. He's written some good ones; but I'm sure his "rising" has a lot to do with who he is related to. Linda, Im not interested in adoring rock stars, I watch these things for how they are depicted and how they WANT us to see them. I'm sorry for putting down one of your favs. I'm glad he's doing his own thing. Music is a good choice. And I love the name Rufus.
I think it's apparent that he has low self esteem...many great artists have that, it's their driving force. Yes, he takes considerable pride in his music. At least he doesn't have that false humility that we see so much of from really talented musicians.
I just recently came to discover Rufus Wainwright's music & I love it! And this is all thanks to The Hour because that is where I discovered him! I love The Hour!!
love surf! hehe ahh i love him so much! he's so adorable. i'm glad he's been so tenacious and true to himself, otherwise he wouldn't be rufus. and the world would never have been the same! <3

That last part was profound. It's true, it was Bush/Clinton for a long time. They're good buddies.

Elton John called him the greatest songwriter on the planet. And it is so amazingly true.

Its like hes arrogant, but hes in his right to be, because he is amazing. He says some sort of pompous things, but I can't disagree with them.

It is called humor...wit...irony...just look at his face when he says things like that.
In addition to being the best singer/songwriter of our time, he's funny too.
