  • Love this song!

  • 2:13 he looks like Mike Patton

  • ashame the split :(

  • this might be the best thing to happen since like freedom and junk.

  • the singer reminds me of Jack White a little bit. like, the way he acts. and kind of how he sings.

    sick band :)

  • Is it bad that all I can see in this is Aviator and Catch me if You Can

  • mmmm (: i have such a girly crush on shawn harris (:

  • @jaejunkiex haha definitely agree with you on that one there. just about died when i saw them at warped in 07.

  • I think it's my new life goal to make a music video as amazing as this...

  • i actually only knew point me towards the morning..

the more songs i listen the better they get ^_^

  • I think in years to come The Matches will be remembered as one of the most unique and innovate artists of the aughts (2000s). They were able to blend pop-punk, screamo, post-punk and electronica and still make something that's wholly their own. Can you name any other band that sounds like The Matches from the last ten years? I sure can't. I'm excited to see what Shawn and the guys do on their own, but I hope they do reunite at some point.

  • @SkeltonKid Vampire Weekend.

  • @iOscartheGrouch Afro-pop meets bouncy indie rock? Not exactly the same sound as the Matches, and far too restrained for my taste. Also, what the hell's up with the yacht club look?

  • man the drumming in this video is genius, its hard to appreciate the drumming till you've learned yourself. The Matches are toe greatest, to state the obvious

  • @seidfric for sure!!! Matt's the bomb!

  • its the happiest screamoish music i own <33 :P

  • This must have been the "screamo" of the 80's or 90's

  • i forgot about this song...i love it :)

  • i remember listening to these guys when sick little suicide and dog eared paige first came out lol still good

  • totally awsome

  • nice! thanks edison!!!!

  • no problem haha. I was just watching this video again and I saw this comment =P

  • saw this band live a few years back. amazing live performance. :]

  • Matches = <3

My favorite band along with Motion City Soundtrack! :) So glad their new CD's out!

  • Yes. The Matches and Motion City Soundtrack are the two best bands in the known universe. True facts.

  • @LordLegless I saw them both the same night and fell in love with them both

  • that little backwards part at the beignning of the song, does anyone know what it says?

  • wow.... i never noticed that! i got no idea! let us know if ya find out! :)

  • "There was an old man called Michael Finnigan,

He grew whiskers on his chinigan.

The wind came along and blew them in again,

Poor old Michael Finnigan begin again. "

  • Still Matt Whalen

  • the matches :]

  • Now this is music,

  • i absolutly love this band...the matches fucking rock

  • The verses sound like something straight out of '80s New Wave. I don't know what to make of that.

  • i know what you mean. it does sound like something the cars or devo would blend in with

  • So true...

  • such a good song!!

  • The Matches will forever be my favorite band :)

  • the singer looks like johnny depp to me

  • rofl for like a split second he looks like Gerard Butler from the Phantom of the Opera xD 1:41 ish

  • wow i havent heard this song in a LONG time.

  • Whicked song..

They play too much halo though

    "Oly Oly Oxen Free" haha..

  • this is one of the best songs i have ever heard i love this song n i listen 2 it all the time ever since i first heard it on fuse a few years back. this band is awesome. 2 bad we dont get 2 hear them anymore.

  • why does this band remind me of vendetta red?

  • i love this band two

  • i <33333333 this songg!!!

  • I love this song something fierce.

It's such a shame they weren't more popular.

It's also a shame that they broke up or went on hiatus or whatever.

I still need to record my Matches tribute cover of Clouds Crash..

  • With a song/video like this, its surprising the Matches weren't a mainstream band. Not saying they sound mainstream but just their songs definitely deserved airplay.

Can't wait to hear what these guys come up with next wiht their side projects. It will be wonderful.

  • he has such an expressive voice.

I loved him in Razia's Shadow, only one crazy enough for the doctor XD

  • why why whyyyy do they have to be on indefinite hiatus D:

  • I love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i <3 the matches

  • i love this song =]

  • good bay area band

  • Funny story. I went to Warped tour almost two years ago and I badly wanted to see the Matches. I wait for a really long time at the Hurley stage until a band called Hot Rod Curcuit came on. I waited at the wrong stage!! They added another Hurley stage that year and I was not aware. I did not get to see them. So sad.

  • GIVE OUT, GIVE IN, VICODIN!

  • Perfect.

That is the only word I can use to describe the matches ..

    (apart from perhaps "addictive")

    xx

  • olly olly oxen free =] ahaha

  • good song

  • this song is amazing ^_^

  • First song I ever heard by them and I have loved them since. :)

  • Oxen free!

  • Great song, great video. Perfect to rock out to : )

Did he say what I thought he did? It sounds like he said "matchbook romancer". lol.

  • Myspace Romancer :)

  • 3:01

god what a range on that fella

  • Their best song! I love this so much!

    I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ PAPERCUT SKIN!

  • the crowd always goes off to it ive but i think its far from thier best song.

    Sick Little Suicide!

  • You're right, it is an awesome song but I think this and What Katie Said are their best ones - still. :)

It doesn't sound like Shawn Harris singing in Sick Little Suicide! That's one of the main reasons I like The Matches so much, Shawn Harris has such a cool voice...

I wonder how tall he is... *sighs*

  • Saw them in NYC last night for the first time!...small venue, but unbelievable performance

  • eurgh lucky bitch,

someone make em come to london =/ x

  • haha....i love the sailor costumes.

this is by far my favourite matches song...

and then shoot me in the smile.

  • Papercut Skin = Sex

  • 0:17 matt whaler drummer!! he went to mah school!! i talked to him today he lives down the street

  • olly olly oxen freee is a old school game lol

  • they are so cool! but what the hell is olly olly oxen?

  • wow what a great video

    and song :D

    ... and band :P

  • Epitaph's got such good taste

  • Did they support Biffy Clyro in England(2007), I'm sure they did but i don't know if it's the write group..

  • yessss they did!

along with blood red shoes I do believe...?

  • Thanks! now i can finally get the album knowing it's the write band :)

  • my brother showed me the band befor 3 years and i still love them!

  • there was a flash of a fat guy in a towel...LOL!

  • I dont know what it is about this song, but it is so catchy. I have a soft-spot for catchy songs... :]

  • heyheyheyheyy! THE MATCHES FUCKIN ROCK YEAH MY FAVORITE BAND THIS SONG ROCKS!!!

  • The sound is fantastic!

  • 1 :56 to 2:05 HOLY SHIT

  • what

  • :)) i know!! its fucking hilarous!!!!!

  • What is he saying at the beginning of the song? Is it a subliminal message?

  • I'm not sure, but I think it's a children's song played backwards. It's called Michael Finnigan and if you read the lyrics you can see the connection to the song.

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!

The Matches are the best! <3

    xx

  • the best band ever.:)

  • ok i eed everyone that is a fan to tell me. do u think they are punk rock? i was told they were but they most certainly arnt.

  • i dont think theyre punk rock at all and i love these guys. thats really sad if people think they are punk rock

  • i think its alternative rock hmmmmm who noes the best is to leave them wif out a genre cuz their great this way

  • they might be, punk rock really just means rebelious rock, and they kinda rebel. punk rock is sweet

  • i wouldn't give them a genre, every cd is different. It doesn't really matter anyways :P

  • they look so cute in their sailor suits :)

  • best song by them :D

  • Definitely!!

  • Decomposer

  • Yay :]

  • This song rocks so hard!! JOb well done

  • the only man that could ever replace as the new joker in the nolan era batman films....shawn harris

  • great song... weird video... but funny

  • !!!!!!!!CrAZy HOT!!!!!!!!

  • This song is freggin AWESOME!!

  • Ohh you're fucking kidding me D:

I've seen The Matches on tv before, this was ages ago, and I wanted to get some of their music, but I never did. Ahsdkfjklasfhk

  • /agreed

  • these guys are so good...

  • Uhm. Actually, Sunburn Vs. The Rhinovirus is about getting a cold at the beach.

    Look it up.

  • he isnt complaining about paper cuts, he is using it as a symbol of the dead end office job he has and how it's empty, monotonous and driving him crazy.

    u idiots....

  • are you dumb? sunburn is about sniffing cocain, thus the "i had a bad day at the beach" aka, getting "wet" or high and blowing your brain out through your nose. and this song is about how hard it is to write good music and doing your best to do so

  • im pretty sure its not about coke.......

  • You may be right it makes a bit of sense it is but I also found out Shawn said it himself it was about having a cold at the beach in an interveiw. Which kinda explains the title a bit. Im not sure so eiher one could be right and it would make sense lol

  • ...nah, it's about having a cold at the beach.

    look it up.

  • the matches do right weird songs and thats why they are so amazing! They dont care if people dont understand their songs because they do! Like Sunburn vs Rhinovirus I have no idea wtf it's about but its one of my fav Matches song! Like a lyric from that song is Grandma sleeps on a bed of ice why does Grandma sleep with open eyes. It makes no sense but I love it!!

  • Write

  • The songs about having a cold at the beach. Which is pretty funny.

  • Pfffft, I love how he dances. Lmao.

  • I love the way he screams "vicodin" at 3:00

  • ohhh boy. you laugh at massive knife wounds. you're harrrrdddcore!

    wow..

    pussy.

  • AHHH I love the matches.

    this song =pure genus.

    :D

    SHARE THE LOVE.

  • People need to stop bashing this band, just because they have a unique sound, it makes them stand out and honestly, they have soo much talent. So if you can do better, id like to see it.

  • i dont know if this happened to this band, so don't get me wrong, because i don't think it did, but...

It must suck if you have an amazing band and the lead singer suddenly quits... For example Fall Out Boy (though I actually hate them) have a really distinctive voice... So the entire band sounds completely different and everyone hates them...

Though I'm probs gonna get a bunch of massive music types telling me it happened to such and such a band and theyre still good. Whatevs.

  • I Think You're Right!

    And I'm A Music Type :P

    x

  • lmfao.

  • oh man you laugh at massive knife wounds and you're telling people over the internet, you're cool.

    too bad you're fucking queer.

  • I don't even like the Matches, but I am a musician and I have to say... If you think you can do better then do it yourself, If you can't than shut your ignorance hole. Oh, and get a life.

  • you are misunderstandng the song.

he isnt complaining about paper cuts, he is using it as a symbol of the dead end office job he has and how it's empty, monotonous and driving him crazy.

  • Even though I miss the 'old' Matches (y'know, 'The Locals' and E. Von Dahl...), I still like their new stuff. I guess either style works for them, and I applaud their progress in finding their own sound.

  • holy crap... i'm about to ruin this song for everybody.. do you think The Matches got the guitar / Bassline from The Knacks - My Sharona?

  • cool ;D

  • or johnny depp o.0

  • parts of the video the lead singer reminds me of leonardo dicaprio

  • haha cool! Still love Wake The Sun better :)

  • Shawn is truely the nicest guy i've ever met :)

  • its depressing to me that justin is gone

  • awesome! (the lead singer is also very adorable) X]

  • Stop being so nosy Carl

  • FUCK!!

  • amazing! i love The Matches<33

    mollie.

  • It's so wierd how no one has heard of them, considering how awesome they are...there so f*&*&%^% kool

  • do you reckon theyd still be as cool if they had a big following? some bands become less good/cool when they break into the "big time". if they do get big i hope they become more awesome.

  • yeah, i doubt they'd be as good.

I remember mcr when they weren't big, and I saw them at a small venue a LONG time ago. They were really good then, but now they have changed so much i cant really stand them.

  • WHERE IS YOUR HEAAARRRRTTTT

    oh god

  • same probs with green day, less so for the offspring and nofx. Maybe its just a punk thing?
