  • Had 7513 today, had no power when I accelerated.

  • They might of had some 6v92s laying around from earlier re powering from that 8.0 liter 4 banger Detroit 50 series

  • @marcw680 - Okay, so what are you getting at exactly? I am not quite sure and do not want to jump to conclusions.

  • awsome

  • Wow, weirdest engine/powertrain I've ever heard on a D40LF.

  • Detroit Diesel 6V92TA is very common on the earliest D40LF's until sometime in 1994 when the DD Series 50 started showing up in them.

  • Were any of em made with a 8v71 or 8v92TA in the earliest years? Or a 6v71?

  • Nope. I believe the 8V71 and 6V71 engines were discontinued long before these buses were built. I am not sure when the 8V71 was discontinued, but the last Transit buses I know of built with the 6V71 engine were built in 1988. Haven't heard of any later models with 6V71 engine since.

  • did any D40LF have Cummins L10?

  • None that I have ever heard of.

  • I know it is the weirdest engine/powertrain,which is funny.

  • And the sound of the M.A.N. Axle makes them sound oddly when you think about it. Those M.A.N. axles are prety loud at times!

  • Those axles are really loud, but this engine/powertrain combo is also on TTC's 1991 Orion V's. They had problems with the ZF transmission too, so they switched.

  • How is that? lots of TA's in the states use this drivetrain.

  • How old is what? The bus? 1993 as stated in the title. : )

  • that bus sound sounds really funny!

  • Actually, they didn't start retrofitting them to Allison about 1998 when they did 2 of them... Most others kept their ZF's right up until about 2003 and the last one was converted over in early 2005.

  • I seem to remember the first 2 ZF retrofits starting in 2000, one of them being 7506, I believe the other one was 7542. IIRC, the one of them I remember riding in the summer of 2000 and discovered at that point that they started switching them out. The two original ones were the only ones with the older shifter selector like the ones used on Allison World transmissions from about 1995 to 1997/1998 (approx dates)

  • All of these 1993 New Flyer low floors operated by Calgary Transit originally employed ZF transmissions, which lasted until about 1999.
