Oh don't flattter yourself dude. I am not up at 6:30 JUST to respond to you. It's sad that you're actually dumb enough not to get what I was saying AND a big enough meat head to make this pathetic attempt to damage control that fact. And I am totally aware that YOU said nothing about the science behind it. That would be why I said it. And if you would go back and reread your own bullshit you actually DID say that there was an extra "somthing" that power punchers have. I explained......
@Pitbullgladiator Well that's kind of my point. Yes, you can improve punching power with proper technique and leverage and timing and all that. But there's just that extra something that true power punchers have that not everybody has. As far as stories go, just refer to history. Look at a guy like Marciano, one of the smallest heavyweight champions evr, 5'10", 185lbs, and one of the hardest punchers ever. And really his technique wasn't all that great. But he could drop a cow.
No doubt Alexis Arguello himself one the all time great punchers Oliveras could hit underneath the flab was strong fighting muscle. technique is important. but some guys like foreman and shavers just have superheavy hands. they can hit you on the elbow and you still go flying across the ring. they can hit you on chin you feel it in your foot. open glove cuff on the head send puts you floor....superheavy hands....god gifted.
@LVSWTZ heavy hands dont do a thing unless there like 200kg hands out of stone ! its about the legs and the body thrusting power into the shoulders and finally the arms - (its called technique)
@wereareyoumarn Actually it's not. True, without proper training and at least some knowledge of technique all the strength in the world won't equate to a hard punch. But a natural heavy puncher is born. That's why some guys hit harder than others. Everybody knows that, unless of course you want to argue with every reputable trainer in the history of the sport. George Foreman had horrible technique and he's one of the hardest punchers in history.
@bandit7498 dont try to tell me that hard punching is from heavy hands .. omg !! people who cant hit hard use that as an excuse saying something like ' they was born powerful' so it makes them feel better. u are born a puncher but its got nothing to do with heavy hands.. so if u have a heavy hand lol .. and you throw a completely shit punch then are you saying its got k.o potential ?? biggest BS IV EVER HEARD you have to have proper traing and know how to punch to be a big banger
@bandit7498 Correct. Foreman is perhaps the all-time perfect example of this. Guys like Rocky Graziano & Sonny Liston are also solid examples, though to a lesser extent.
@dog1dog2 True. Though Liston had perhaps the best left jab in heavyweight history. Sometimes though he would get a little wild with his punches, yet he could rip your head off. Yet many guys out there throw "perfect" punches and can't crack an egg..
@MrKenshabba I assume you're talking about Ali. I'll agree he had a great jab as far as reach, accuracy and setting up his straight right. But Liston's jab was like a light pole ramming a guy in the face. Holmes had a better jab than Ali too. Don't get me wrong, I agree Ali was the greatest heavyweight that ever lived. And I know he lived by the jab. Just that a Liston and Holmes had more power in their jab.
@bandit7498 I feel you on this comment too. For my money, Holmes jab is the all-time best in the HW division. Interestingly, Foreman actually had a pretty effective jab as well (when he worked it), especially during the "2nd half" of his career. Though not as sharp and snappy as a Holmes, with those "heavy hands," his jab could deliver a thudding, stunning blow.
@bandit7498 Good point mate. Muhammad Ali can arguably the Greatest of All Time overall but Holmes had the better jab. Ali had the fastest jab in heavyweight history. Liston easily had the hardest as he knocked people out with it. Holmes had the best jab in heavyweight history, it wasn't as fast as Ali's and as strong as Liston's but it was fast and hard enough to create almost the perfect jab. Larry's jab was a piston like weapon
@musood6630 I agree with you pal. Holmes used to abuse people with his jab. Great point, not quites as quick as Ali's, not quite as strong as Sonny's, but the perfect match of power and speed and his jab was deadly. I too believe Holmes had the best jab in heavyweight history. Ali used his more to set up other shots, which he did to great affect, or for defensive purposes.
@bandit7498 I'd say Louis had a better jab than Ali too. Ali was full of flaws in his style but he was by far the best tactically (in and out the ring).
@Alltimeboxing Louis? Maybe. Though he used his jab more as a setup for his other punches. Ali had the reach that allowed him to win rounds with nothing but the jab when all else failed. But I believe it was Braddock that said getting hit with Louis' jab was like being struck end ways by a telephone pole. lol. Y'know, Ali had a lot of technical flaws that he got away with in his younger years because he was so quick. Then when he lost those reflexes his chin took over.
@bandit7498 Exactly, thats what I wanted to emphasized. Some Louis opponents said he was so powerful that taking his jab was like a light bulb exploded on your face every time... and Ali got away with a lot of flaws which had finally a bad influence on boxing because all the youngsters that tried to copy his style afterwards copied his flaws without having the talent to get away with it... that made a lot of bad boxers
@MrKenshabba Ali's jab was a different weapon than say Liston's jab was in his prime.
Liston could knock opponents down and out with his jab. Ali's jab did not have that kind of power. He used it to keep his opponent off balance and set up his combinations. Who had the greatest jab? Depends how you define great.
Sure, talent matters. But the real secret is that most people, talented or not, don't train hard enough to beat a bum who's a workhorse. That's how import training is. If you're patient, thoughtful, observant, and disciplined, plus you're willing to take way more pain than the other guy on a daily basis, you can probably make a living as a fighter. I'm sure a lot of people will disagree. Who wants to believe their fate is their own responsibility?
@greentexian From his days as a bar room brawler Dempsey was known to have a mule kick like punch. Teddy Atlas said Tyson had the power at 12 years old to KO grown men. They might not have to proper "tools" to apply that power, but the power is there from the start. That's why the last thing to go in a fighter is his punching power. If true skull cracking punching power was all from training the all the top pros today would have TNT in their gloves.
@bandit7498 Strength is a component of power. Power = speed x strength in simple terms (it's actully more complicated than that). Also defined as rate of force development. So you can't develop force rapidly if you can't develop it in the first place. And your point about arguing with boxing trainers is a logical fallacy known as APPEAL TO AUTHORITY. Read up on the power developed by olympic lifters compared to power lifters. Powerlifting actually is NOT power lifting, Olympic lifting is.
@SCROGY Without sounding disrespectful, it sounds as if you're just trying to sound really smart in an attempt to reubute my statements. I've been involved in boxing for 30 years and I can assure you punching power and Olympic weightlifting couldn't be further apart in terms of athletics. I've seen many super strong men that couldn't punch a lick. Likewise I've seen very scrawny guys that could take your head off. I'll rest on the subject because it's getting boring.
@bandit7498 First) Don't makes assumptions that someone is trying to sound smart. These are facts. Second) you completely missed the point and once again made a totally false statement. I'll repeat it: Olympic lifting is based on POWER development and not entirely on strength. To lift Oly style you need to develop power. But this is BUILT on a base of max strength because you can't develop force over a short interval (power) without being able to first develop a lot of force......
@bandit7498 ........So while it's true that many STRONG men can't punch with power the equation explains why: Power = speed x strength. There is a point of diminishing returns where TOO MUCH of either speed or strength and not enough of the other means you will not reach your max power potential. You may HAVE seen strong guys that can't hit hard. There are also FAST guys that can't crack and egg because they have never developed enough strength to make their power potential reach it's max.
@bandit7498 It is totally related, You just aren't getting it.
Never understood how some boxing trainers can be so ignorant of sports science when it comes to training and how they can constantly use Appeal To Authority (we have always done it that way) to justify their lack of understanding. I don't know how else to explain it to you so you'll comprehend it........Sorry.
@SCROGY I'm not asking you to explain shit weirdo. I'm just asking you to get off my nuts. Again, nothing you've had to say relates to anything I was talking to the other people about. You talking speed = power and e=mc suare and fat people eat too much and bla bla fucking bla. I think you missed the point entirely. For the last time please fuck off.
@bandit7498 Ah, now you're using insults. The surest sign that you're looking the fool in an argument. Problem is, you're just too damn stupid to understand that you're wrong, and probably too stubborn to have the manners to admit it. You sound like an uneducated boor and a man that's too much of a meat head to admit he's ignorant. So you deny what you don't understand and damage control the fact that you got owned, by being a dick. If you want this to end, how about just not responding?
@bandit7498 Angrily denying that what I offered has nothing to do with what you were discussing, doesn't make it true. It has everything to do with it, but you're just too uneducated to see that. It is all easily explained by physics. Your ignorance/insults doesn't make that explanation go away.
@bandit7498 BTW: I was being polite and attempted to explain this in a rational way.
