@billupsgershan1 if you have a good ear there are lots of ways to tell this version from the 1984 version, but there are two obvious differences right at the start of the song. In the 1984 version, the fourth line of the spoken part is "jukebox life diamond nights and ruby lights", and there is a sax riff immediately after "heaven help him when he falls." i like the other version better... :-D

and you know immediately that this is a different version, but you can tell the 1984

@eyescandeceive .. absolutely - good ear. If I recall, this version was recorded based on the version sung while she and mates were still with the band Pride, yet performing as a separate entity. Another early version of S.O. begins as this does, but is arranged differently (and has a faster and heavier drum line by Paul Cook) and has additional lyrics (in the first verse sections). Once Sade signed a record deal, the song was polished/music reworked and released - hot damn it was on from there!
