There is nobody on earth and there maybe not ever be a person that can be compared to the greatness of Nelson Mandela. He was and is a figure in SA to which who all look up to. I do not see that Obama can be classified in his category. Obama still needs to proof and deliver his promises - he is no icon. Making you the first black president of America is no achievement - it is what you do as president. And Mandela did not fail as president. The ANC is failing now without him.
Learn to love everybody foolish children. Stop preaching the hate, envies and fear of your fathers and mothers. You are not honoring their name. Break the cycle. become a new generation. Place love in you hearts. For every unkind word is a barb and a snare to future generations one day look back and ask questions of us
@Obi, Black people of the USA have waited for so "many painfull years"(quoted from the song) to have a black president...Don't you think that it is a similar case as that of Black South Africans? There's actually more meaning to the song than what is said. This song is more about beeing proud of our black president. Remember that beeing jailed doesn't only mean beeing in prison physically. African Amaricans+Obama were jailed for years but his spirit was never broken.Isn't that what Brenda says?
What has Obama got to do with this? Please remove Obama from this post. You can unintentionally distort history with this post. This was for Mandela and has got nothing to do with Obama
What the does the following mean pertaining to VIVA? What does this song mean? The dictionary says:Viva is an exclamation expressing good will, well wishing, etc. (n.) The word viva, or a shout or sound made in uttering it.
@gregboyds did the whites give the africans achance to build and fail ? and anyway did the africans need dat development ? do u really think dat development was neccessary at the cost of our suffering? a white man's sense of development is not the same as ours. u white pple are the most destructive beings dat eva existed and trust me all africans wldn't be dead without u pple . development ????? who benefits anyway u made de dev'ts for urselves duh????

Even though I wasn't born in SA this song brings a tear to the eye. We as black people have suffered, but as Maya Angelou says Still I Rise. Nothing I mean nothing can keep us black people down. We are kings and queens, one love!
Damn why is Obama mentioned here? This song is about the great Mandela! If you want to talk about Obama, type his name and press search. VIVA MADIBA!!!!!
I was an exile in Afrikan countries. This thing that we were treated better than how South Afrika treats the so-called foreigners, is pure rubbish. We were not allowed to live with communities in some Afrikan countries. Twice I was put in jail as a "probihited immigrant". Immigrants are committing crimes and murdering South Afrikans. South Afrika has absorbed millions of Afrikans although it can't take care of its own people. If they don't like it in SA they are free to live
@mzimkhulunyeka Thank you. This is for Madiba!!! Damn can't we have things for our own? This beautiful song has nothing to do with EvilBama. VIVA MADIBA FOREVER!!!!!

And guess you constantly question peoples authority. The comments are here for a reason. I'm giving my opinion. Nelson Mandela is a true figure in history. Unfortunetly I've asked people why they've voted for Barak Obama, and some of the answers were "because he's black" I could care less if our president was black white asian spanish. As long as they do a good job. But Democracy fucking stupide so the 51% get to take away what the other 49% want in this country.

Look what happened to the country when it actually happened.... ZIMBABWE NR 2 Do you love Robert BABOON Mogabe too??? Thank you to all of you guys... You made people like me... LEAVE!!! And there are MILLIONS of us already... soon it will only be you left there... then you can do as you please like you already do... ENJOY IT!!! SIMUNJE or whatever you call it!!!
Olcker, it is clear the country is not yours, if it was, you would not have left. And seeing as it is not yours, y are you bitter brother? Are you hurt? If so, turn that hurt into something positive and don't call other people baboons, especially when you can't spell his name right. I pity you for not understanding the cycle, that power must shift when the majority is unhappy, it happened once, it will happen again, and again, and again, until the majority is satisfied, regardless of race
Through the National Party, we made the vast majority of our people's lives a living hell. We brutally abused "them", denied "them" proper education and the ability to take command of their own future. And then wondered why we had 30 years of political violence! But like Yendepami said, you are one of these who will never go and read the history because it's easier to not acknowledge their past suffering , instead of trying to reconcile. Reconciliation wasn't just a thing of the 1990s, you know.
The time is now, segregation, discrimination, pain and tears that black brothers and sisters went true pays of, thank you all South African you lead the way, now America has done as well. Let us not do what they did to us and our ancestor let us teach them Humanity, there is one race Human race. The time is now to teach the world of what we went through in our perspective
@maysek We really need to be correct here and understand the truth of God and what God created. Barack Obama is not the first Black president he is Bi-Racial half-caste mixed-race. Concieved 9 months inside a White WOMB EMBRYO and fed through a white test-tube the very same white womb that is used to make and create both white men and women. So scientifically and genetically he is not Black but both black/white combined into one Coloured human.
Yhoooo!! This song puts m on another level as a black SA.I blv my parents gave m life,BRENDA thought m how to enjoy it and TATA MADIBA made it possible 4 m 2 live it.VIVA...VIVA..VIVA 2 MY PPL!!!!!!!!!!
And they STILL dont have jobs and houses as promised in 1994... They are better people then I will ever be because if someone was to lie to me like THEY did... I wouldnt go on as if nothing had happened... like ALL of them do... good luck...
@olckers69 hahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa get a life my frnd.I'm not debating politics here jst get over it.Through God all things r possible.Plz let us talk peace...lol
Its shocking how South Africans have treated foreigners today. One of my elementary school friend was killed by black SA.I vividly remember how we all composed and sang those songs "apartheid is a crime against humanity" in support of black SA.
Lucky Dube is my favorite musician but this is my favorite song of all time. As a 4 to 10 yrs old little girl in LIB durin 1984 to 1990 be4 our civil war; I remember watchin Nelson Mandela and his fellow S.A. who were all fightin for S.A. freedom breakin rocks form mornings to nights and they all were so skinny like they were not being feed right. Me entailin my mom and aunt used to cried and say that one day they will come form prison and the entire Africa will be pride with joy
I remembered in 1992, when I was 12yrs old, they were all free, and it was a joy and happiness in LIB. The streets of LIB were outside down and we all were so happed dancing, singing Black President and crying all at once for our fellow African brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters and etc, it was a great day for not only S.A; but, for all Africans. A day I will never forget and there is a song to make sure I never forget such beautiful and powerful day in our continent history.
(Con't). I am an African and a Black and well educated African. Lets us all be proud of our Continent. Who were finally not going to be treated like dogs but instead, like the human beings God/Allah have created in put life into; since I came to America in December of 1998 I have been looking for this song it was there beginning of this year ten years later, when I finally came across it on Youtube and since then I have always been playing it along with my Lucky Dube songs.
(Con't). This song is also for Barack Obama. Though, he was born a year earlier before the end of segregation in America. However, his people when through the same thing that South Africans went through, where they were treated like dogs not the human beings God/Allah have created and put life into.
My favourite Brenda Fassie song period! Can someone please post the original song. Can't stop the tears from dropping from eyes when I hear the original. No song draws so much emotion from me than this one. Truly great music. RIP Brenda Fassie, Lebo Mathosa and TK.
okay i am a big fan of this song, now what this guys have done to the melody they have completley messed it up, the tempo is not doing justice the the melody that this song was created on, i really feel sadnned by people who really mess songs up because this one that i just listend to is uter rubbish, thanx to whoever did this mix for ruining a perfectly good and melodic song, reducing a good song to this rubbish!
i luv this song but i dont c the reflection of barack obama in it.. nelson mandela was in prison 4 many years but barack obama has always been a free man..
