The earth is billions of years old so therefore this event has happened numerous times in the past. The twist is that it's never been documented on what effects (if any) this event has on earth. Plenty of people predicted the end of the world and were wrong. Christians had warned of the apocalypse and the rapture and some geek warned us of the Y2K error but they never happened. What makes you think that this is going to happen

The end of the forth age was represented by water. The end of fifth age was represented by an angry looking sun. So this would make sense. Amazing how they synced their calender with Venus making it highly accurate as time passes. The knowledge of that calender could predate the Mayans so they would have a long time to refine it into 600,000 year segments into the past.

This area has been know to have effects on the weather and climate. The thing that makes this important is that the sun is predicted to be apart of this alignment which is rare. Some scientist looked at data showing sun-earth-center and earth-sun-center effects. The worry is center-sun-earth + exoplanets.

The end of the forth age was represented by water. The end of fifth age was represented by an angry looking sun. So this would make sense. Amazing how they synced their calender with Venus making it highly accurate as time passes. The knowledge of that calender could predate the Mayans so they would have a long time to refine it into 600,000 year segments into the past.

the calculations that dictate that the world will end in 2012 were wrong. According to the correct calculations, the world won't end for another 200 years or so. and anyway, the chance that the world will end then is small. the mayans used a non-circular calender, a linear calender unlike us. they counted the days passed from one date. the world will not end.

It's incredibly easy with hindsight to fit revelations to world events...Basically all of Nostrodamus' predictions are true if you attempt to match them. Religions do the same thing, find a few points of reference and join the dots...Anyway, as we don't know the nature of the disaster, there's not much we can do to prepare, other than make awful movies about escaping earthquakes in a car.

@rogan71 it is not so much that they could predict the end of this age, it is simply that they understood that everything including time is circular and occurs in cycles, therefore reoccuring. this is how they were able to pinpoint eclipses and other astronomical events. as far as their demise, the mayans abandoned their cities at about 830 a.d. for unknown reasons, many believe that the mayans simply migrated elsewhere.

we know that planets n stars travel at a certain speed, with calculations, we think where they would be in an X amount of years.

i watched this film. this was only a hypothetical scenario along with other non violent ones because Earth's magnetic Field is at its lowest in 2,000 years and there's a whopper solar flares coming this way around 2012. the solar flare on August 11, 1997 that knock out Canada is nothing compare to whats coming! so stock up on sunscreens and hot dogs ;)
but most of the film talks about how accurate the Mayans' calendar and their knowledge of the heavens.
