The "stack" on occurs because a worker (drone, scv, probe) can go through units when mining. When you stop their "gather" when they're on top of another unit, they try to make space to spread out. They jump on other units until they have a flat spread.

You should drop more dragoons where there are vacancies to increase the density. Create a thicker shell of pylons around the cluster, and see the rate of dragoon flux through the shell assuming a uniform rate of dragoons being dropped into the core cluster as vacancies arise.

By core, I mean the center of the shell of pylons where the dragoons started out

the goons started out adjacent to each other. when they start to trick and jumble against each other, the density is no longer uniform. When particles move, space opens up between each body.

I am suggesting you drop a dragoon whenever one of these spaces opens up, thus increasing the density even further.

this density decreases by the rate dragoons trick through the wall of pylons.
