  • Not smoothing strokes with a tablet is just backward.

Using photoshop to make "vectors" is even more backward.

Not using masks or selections in photoshop is just.....

It would have been faster to use a real vector program.. or at least just use the pen tool and then convert points..................

  • @frigrm Where's your tutorial?

  • I have some basic tutorials on using sketchbook designer, using the mouse. I try to keep it simple and don't cover most of the advanced stuff. I don't think I went into layers or custom pallet at all even, just vectors mostly. I don't see why people would trace using freehand. If you have the dexterity, using a digitizer is fine for placing anchor points, which is what I do, but a mouse is also fine.

  • no offence but if that picture is of you then you look like a right fagot..

  • technically its not a Vector...

  • Change the title to "Create a cartoon in Photoshop" instead of confusing people who are not looking for cartoons or your explanation as to why it is similar to cartoon. There is a reason why each is called by a different name, to differentiate which is which, and not to be left to your discretion as to how to define the two processes. So, stop confusing viewers with your own choice of names just because you believe they are one and the same.

  • 2:14 THATS What SHE SAID!! lol gigitty

  • no offence but that looks like shit

  • I WILL DOWNLOAD THIS TUTOR HOPE THAT I WILL FEEL SATISFIED WITH TH RESULT

  • fine, but how to save as vector image? so i can resize it easily ??

  • Just (keep) hold shift + click ..

  • Thanks for the vid, I didn't know how to convert the path to a line, now I know. I was hoping there was a way to convert it and still keep it in a vector format though, what I'm working on has to be resizable on a HUGE scale. Guess that's why they sell Illustrator ;) . Good tutorial!

  • here we have a regular picture tacken by a regular idiot

  • @SamplingMusic

if you are so damn smart, why dont you do some tutorials?

  • @YouJustShutUpNow sorry, i admit i shouldn't of said that

  • Hey I could do that to a picture of me?

  • Great Video...

  • what

  • my path selection is not appearing... what should i do? please help

  • @dawnandmuses You need to click stroke path. You are just making a path, its no drawing anything

  • How do you get the color to stay the same shade when you go over when coloring ? when I paint if the color over-lapes it changes color. I've only been working with a pad for 5 months and haven't learned names or technices

  • How much does that drawing board?

  • This shit sucks, you talk to much when we clearly get the point. Disliked..

  • whats command

  • Nice bro

  • Eww..

  • @mrblackversion oooooooooooooooooh ok ;)

  • hi how do yo got call of duty 4?

  • he looks like chuck norris of modern day

  • I hope you'll teach this kind of thing using Photoshop CS3

  • r u talking using ur nose>>

  • On photoshop no Vector only Vecxels xD!!!

  • This is a good technique but it is not a vector image. And you can do vectors in photoshop you are just more limited on the tools and Illustrator has a lot of cooler stuff if you know how to use it. But this image right here if you were to go to image and then change the size of it to a much larger size the resolution would be terrible.A true vector image ALWAYS has a great resolution no matter what size it is at. You are making a raster image here.

  • is that a real i mac or a theme please tell me

  • octo, why is it that i cannot click on the "stroke path" when i right click on the line i made with the pen tool?

  • below this image *aswell* lol <3

  • nice tutorial

  • Thanks! Great vid!

  • your technique requires a lot of time. :))) oh well. so much for learning new info xD

  • OCTOTITS!:D

  • You look like a Fucken Girl!!!!!! hahahahahahahahahah

  • this is another step..

i have mine using eyedropper and pen tool.. but the way you color the edges helped me because i didnt know that there was such way to do it like the way your stroke path..

  • Thanks for this man!

    Really Helped me out!

My Finished Design is at DOPEP3NG Clothing. Found at DOPEP3NG (dot) Spreadshirt (dot) Co (dot) Uk

    Thanks

  • where i can get the thing that you drawing on

  • Sweet! it almost looks like GTA 2,3,4 art!

  • Not really what I was looking for. I was looking for some actual vector image tutorials (maby inkscape or adobe illustrator) not this because photoshop is bitmap editing program not vector :P. Just wanted to share that with everyone :D

  • @IforgotMyMedication You're right, photoshop does bitmap image, and illustrator does vector. But honestly they both come out looking the same. The vector has the advantage of being able to be resized into any size without loosing quality, but thats the only major difference. I'm way more comfortable with photoshop, and I don't have the desire to use it as an actual vector and resize it into different sizes, so I used photoshop in this tutorial.

  • @octotuts Yeap. Still great video and it helped me even though it was photoshop because you can use at least some things from this video in inkscape :P

  • @octotuts it is easy to convert it to vector after you've done this procedure

  • @IforgotMyMedication Oh, that's the program I was trying to think of, Illustrator.

It's been years since I took my Photoshop class, and I thought it was a different program from Photoshop that would let me do what Illustrator does, but I couldn't remember what the name was and didn't even see Illustrator on Adobe's site so just assumed I was wrong.

Anyway, just tried to use Photoshop to do Illustrator stuff and I was getting a serious headache. Now I know why.

  • @IforgotMyMedication photoshop is a vector based as apposed to rastor based like ms paint.

  • @Palgh Photoshop is a BITMAP editor like mspaint paint.net gimp or anything like that but adobe illustrator and inkscape and maby some other software are VECTOR editors. If you don't know what i'm talking about now go check it from wikipedia :)

  • @IforgotMyMedication I don't need to check wikipedia. What i meant was that photo shop has the capability to export vector shapes. As in it's not 'purely' RASTER based. I'd say you could do it in gimp as well. Get a photo, grab the pen tool and draw a shape and you can export as a VECTOR, yet if you use fill stroke or make selection it is a RASTER shape. You can do both RASTER and VECTOR graphics in photo shop. Raster is the word you were looking for when you said BITMAP. Bitmap is a file format

  • @IforgotMyMedication you can design vector images in photoshop he is just doing it all wrong

  • i dont have a tablet!!!!

    racist to non tablets!

  • @LouishNucky10 LOL! thats 2 funny

  • @LouishNucky10 monoprice makes affordables tablets i don't work for them

  • I just wasted 1:30 of my life before turning off this tutorial. It just sits on his desktop. Don't bother wasting your time everyone!

  • terrible

  • @QucciMaMa how so?

  • @octotuts Well look at the final image compared to the other vector artists, their lines are way straighter. Granted, you used shadows, but you need more shades on the skin, and straighter lines.

  • @octotuts Ignore the prick. Nice work :o)

  • @QucciMaMa :(

  • @QucciMaMa Octotuts appreciates the constructive criticism you offer. :)

  • Great tutorial! I just did my own. Not bad for an amateur.
