  • "Produced by Trey Parker and Matt Stone"

    How'd that happen?

  • Alan Watts,Terence Mckenna and Kiddu Kristnamurti have got to be the greatest thinkers for the last 100 years.

  • I'm a college track and field athlete. I love competing in sports. After college I plan to do strongmen competitions or powerlifting. But it's sad when you see so many athletes being totally engulfed by sports and it becomes their life. And when they don't reach their goals, it haunts them for the rest of their life. I realize if I don't go far in strongman or powerlifting, it's alright. It wasn't meant to be and i'll move on in life. I'll try traveling the world instead. Watts got me into zen.

  • @bdebramo and to you the school system was a good idea but in practice its terrible its not there to teach us things its there to condition us to think a certain way without us even seeing it its better to learn things on your own terms like you said further reading i memorized everything in my textbooks during school and knew more than 90 percent of the other students but to me the paperwork was pointless so teachers didnt like me and i dropped out

  • @l3054 Structured education has been around since ancient greece and earlier. it's important to a civilization If people were to "learn on their own terms" things would be pretty different... School isn't made to hold people down, for some reason people have that mindset nowadays. People in third world countries would kill for a chance at free education. If dropping out worked for you more power to you then, but I'm not being conditioned? lol

  • @bdebramo the greek academies were far better in structure schools nowadays do condition people whether you wanna admit it or not this whole society is built to condition people its not funny not one bit

  • @l3054 you think just because you didn't go to school your not subjected to this "conditioning" your on the internet, you probably watch tv, you probably go to the grocery store, you probably walk down the street and are subjected to some kind of "conditioning" its everywhere, but it's up to us to be free thinkers and choose what we let influence us? if thats what you mean. but of course your going to think like that when a video shows the "real world" as a huddle of the men in business suits

  • @bdebramo like i said this whole society is built on social conditioning your just saying what i already did but taking a whole paragraph to do it and it is a disgusting rat race i knew that long before i watched this video

  • Big Talk brought me here too.

  • BigTalk brought me here.

  • So the question is, who's watching this in their carrot-chasing job right now? And why aren't you dancing?

I am, and I don't quite know why I'm not dancing. I don't know what to do, I feel trapped. How do we get out of this?

  • @deejayedwards its a massive system designed so that its extremely hard to live outside of it take the native americans for example their traditional way of life was destroyed and they were forced to live like those who took their land just to survive

  • that just changed my life, im not just trying to get top comment or anything i have never ever had this sensation ever, that just changed my life and everything i do, the weirdest thing is i wasn't looking for a video like this, it just looked funny so i clicked on it, its almost scary how this happened its like there is something that dictates what we do

  • The South Park guys did this? What.

  • 1:23 - wow perfect representation of society. just listen to that noise. exactly.

  • you feel its a hoax! YES I DO!

  • @laurenchantalbray I am pretending that the hoax is fooling me.Play the fool to catch the wise!Shhh.

  • @busplunger Right right right... shhh.. keep it on the DL. ;) I gotcha

  • @laurenchantalbray ;) Well, honestly be careful when you see through the hoax.Others who are really walking the tightrope of life can do irrational things based on their fear that they dont know what you might do with them.Give a wink for me.Cheers!

  • thespacebetweenmywordsreallymeanalotmorethanwhatiamsaying

  • If you model reality as a computer simulation you have real science (quantum theory n relativity) and eastern philosophy... it's called digital physics. Consciousness is the computer..

The processing power to create consciousness is inevitable anyway.. so it's logical. Reality can be hacked, meditation is one tool that helps us do that. But don't do it to advance your ego.

  • so true

  • what are you supposed to do instead

  • @cheesed00d u Supposed to know the answer!

thats the problem that watts raises... if u dont get guided then u should enjoy and think by yourself

  • @cheesed00d

You are NEVER supposed to do any thing . That's why Watts used the music analogy.

Its only by not resisting the 'flow' too much that you can truly be in peace . And your whole life can be ecstasy. But your not SUPPOSED to DO anything to reach that ecstasy. Its not a goal . Its a state of being that is always you. Not IN you. It is you.

  • @sohaibthephilosopher i like this

  • 89 people sell insurance

  • /watch?v=hJj_4ir12-w&feature=related ott using this recording

  • Do something you love to do. Don't waste your life away! Thanks for the vid!

  • This video is incredible.

  • video je glup S r S r

  • awsome

  • ohh and I guess the truth is found in "clit piercing" videos? I'll be sure to take your words to heart, it seems your so wise. flaxmasterfats

  • 0:39 Conan O'Brien?

  • I just got finished with a college degree today and I didn't miss anything along the way. If anything College lead me to this video.

  • @truthseeker010101. your name and the fact that you reference being lead suggest otherwise. You likely didnt miss anything along the way either and not to say that the view of the experience of life expressed in this video is better or worse than anyone elses way of creating a structure for their life. but by virtue of the fact that you are being lead, and Im lead to believe that you are seeking just seems totally out of congruence with everything that was allan watts just said

  • @flaxmasterfats we are all guided by the truth. My journey is not your concern. So you can judge me however you like , congruence with Alan Watts was never my goal.

  • @truthseeker010101. 1."We are all guided by truth" -speak for yourself.. 2."my journey is not your concern"- You own a journey!?!how the fuck is that even possible Im concerned? and you have the right to dictate my concern to me? 3. "congruence with alan watts was never my goal" I have nothing to say other than I sense bullshit with the never part, but I may be wrong...doesnt really matter if you tell me...but you know. As long as your Seeking your seeking. not finding. Im an asshole. deal.

  • Comment removed

  • @truthseeker010101 I have seen a comment by you on another video that seemed pretty insightful but for now on I think people so lost could use a bigger push

  • @verifymyageful thanks

  • Word!

  • Allen Watts is definetly an OCCUPIER... OCCUPY WALL STREET

  • @amani10bloom you should do that my good sir :) you will have lots of fun!

  • So im not the only one who thinks this way..

  • @DreamsEverlast I'll take that as a compliment... thanks! :)

  • BRAVO!

  • wow this video really opened my eyes!

  • This video disregards all the parties and strip clubs you go to in your off time and assumes you spend 24/7/365 at work/school.

  • @Subtalvik2 I think he was saying that to strive for your success above all else is hardly living. I don't think taking parties and strip clubs and other irrelevancies would be considered a valid form of living life to the fullest, however if it's something you enjoy, an indulgence every once in a while, then i think this video is saying go for it.

  • @SandedFaceless666 why U feed tha troll?!!@$!#$#!

  • @Subtalvik2 sex and booze are fundamentally identical to school and work. Both give your brain a "reward" of pleasure and a feeling of success, and so both are desired and sought after. Workaholics and alcoholics have the same exact addiction, just to different poisons.

  • @TedEdFred21

one is long-term gratification while the other is short-term. The path of Yin and Yang are also different, but relatively equal.

  • Best video ever?

  • @MichielTube1 great indeed! Best animated sequence to an Alan Watts dialogue for sure!

  • @MichielTube1

wow yeah that was really good- thanks for making that.

  • Or as Joseph Campbell so aptly put it, we arn't seeking a 'meaning' or 'purpose' to life. but the experiance of being alive. (to paraphrase big time)

  • well done

  • Give good insight, a great video.

but in reality if you follow the 'music' and dont work hard, at the end of the day you will end up with less money, more problems, more tensions. In life at the centre of everything lies money and money comes with work.

  • @mayanza It shouldn't be a case of "either or". It's a myth that you'll end up broke if you "follow the music". You just won't end up rich. Which you probably wouldn't anyway. Instead you'll be in tune, be alive and awake, and most of all you're much more likely to be truthful to yourself.

  • @molemantwo

It's a myth that you won't end up rich, following the music certainly makes you original, and that pays off in many ways, wealth could be one of them. The point is it won't matter to you whether or not wealth is in your life... well said

  • @fucking1285478 you're absolutely right. it's never that simple, either you end up rich or you end up poor. what's the point of being hung up with whether this or that makes you rich or poor, when the real point is that there are many different types of "riches".

  • @mayanza Or as someone else put it: "More money will NEVER solve your problems. As long as you are not living in the street or going hungry, then you do not “need” more money. When you spend enough time with people who are actually living on next to nothing, but having a full life, then you will truly understand this. Everything that is wonderful about life doesn’t cost a penny, and the rest is way cheaper than you think it is." google "29 life lessons learned" to read the whole thing

  • @mayanza

Open your eyes, watch Steve Jobs speech at Stanford University, he got rich doing what he loved most, dude got cancer and died at early age but hey, he danced his music with joy, imagine if he had finished college, and then worked his ass for an enterprise that wasn't his, he would have died doing something that he didn't want to do, and wouldn't have saved enough money to ensure that his loved ones won't suffer monetary problems, life is too short to waste it on the typical system.

  • "For a long time it seemed to me that life was about to begin -real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me these obstetrical were my life."

  • who is the person speaking i have just heard them in a buddhist book too recently

  • @conorucd alan watts, i recommend him :)

  • @cdphatty thanks, cool ye ill look into him defintely

  • I dunno. sounds kinda like this video wants us all to be selfish assholes. maybe people should sacrifice more, and not less.

  • @rogueinrl I think you're taking it the wrong way. Or maybe you're reading it at a certain angle. You need not be selfish (well, not too selfish, everyone has to be, and is, a little selfish) to really live and enjoy your life.

Even a morning garden walk, or 10 minutes for a cup of tea would really have went a long way into your "music of life".

But, in the end, everyone lives their lives differently. Our choices and thoughts are what makes us.

  • did anyone else notice at the end that this was produced by trey parker and matt stone?

  • I have a question, BTW im 14 so please answer in a slightly simplistic form, what does he mean by "it was a musical thing, and we were supposed to sing or dance while the music was being played". Is it symbolism, or sarcasm ?

  • @slickstar15 He says the end of a song is the point. As if that's supposed to be the best thing about the song. He uses it as a metaphor to life. We were brought up to think that only when you receive success, or your ultimate goal, you will finally get happiness. It will be the "point" of our lives. But life is like a song. The end of the song doesn't really matter, you were supposed to have happiness while leading up to it. You were supposed to sing and dance and be happy living life.

  • @Sniper65118 thats deep.

  • @slickstar15 You're reading too much into it. That sentence was made with the whole video before as a context.

So, to answer you, it's symbolic of sorts. Like how the wonder of a song is the whole length of it and not just the end or the 'coda' (if you have studied some elementary music), life's wonder is through start to finish, and not just about the end - whether it's you being rich, your last breath, your marriage, etc.

  • wow this made me feel soo weird inside!

    so simploistic yet always misunderstood

  • Some great truth in here.

  • ustream.tv/recorded/10072391

  • He was amazing, just simply beautiful!

  • 82 people fell for the hoax.

  • "As is a tale, so is life: not how long it is, but how good it is, is what matters."

    — Seneca

  • im out for delf

  • you can find so much material of Alan Watts on the internet, it's ridiculous.. and it's all definetly worth listening to!!! such an inspiring man

  • HOLY SHIT...this is deep.this is going on my phone so i can watch it daily.

it's so true though...we are waiting for the 'big day' when succcess arrives but we fucking forget to enjoy the journey.im so guilty of this crap aswell. but im 25 so i hopefully can change things

  • A friend sent me this after i complained that an entire year of hard work could be defined by two 1.5 minute segments.

A reminder that we do the hard things because of the joy we get along the way.

  • somebody could write me private message with last 31 second sentens Music and Life - Alan Watts because I couldn't understand that . Thanks a llot.

  • so is this saying that i should major in something i love doing even though i wont mkae many money

  • please go to my channel and look up "Alan Watts interviews Aldous Huxley: part 1" (or just search for it on youtube) if you want to hear alan watts interview aldous huxley.

  • You spelt kindergarten wrong, looks like somebody didn't pass kindergarten...

  • @shegwin What a beautiful message and video and you diss one typo. Fuck off.

  • @TurboShorts i like how you gramatically correct you spell your shit.

  • is there a name for the music in the beginning and end?

  • Well, in other words, you spend your entire life climbing a ladder only to finally realise that the ladder was on the wrong wall in the first place...(first thing first book)

  • 81 people... oh wait nobody likes this joke.

  • Alan Watts was the most inspiring philosopher that ever lived. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • Brilliant!

  • I'm more successful than Alan Watts. I make more money and I drive a bigger car. I don't have to listen to this nonsense.

  • @AirPickles But according to this you've missed the point, you've missed the dance. But you do have your stuff and if you're happy with a small consciousness then good for you. A rude awakening does await you. Please honestly report back when you hit mid-life. I can't wait.

  • @AirPickles My dad's more successful than you - he drives a big bus.

  • @AirPickles Nice irony.

  • so you defines success and wealth as having a lot of material possesions. he changed my life, he has changed many lives and will continue to do so with his profound teachings. you drive around counting the bills in your wallet, looking for something to buy to fill that whole you have in you. im afraid you will never know true happiness and if you think this is nonsense, you have a lot to learn. one day you will realize, it'll never be enough and that you wasted time you will never get back.

  • @AirPickles LOL

  • Yes.

  • Really, really liked this.

  • this has broken my mind and will change my life as soon as my mind manages to decipher it's answer to the meaning of life

  • i think watts embodied what an intellectual is really supposed to be. someone who gives you a rational foundation to understand how you feel about the world

  • i feel better about myself for droping out of high school doing drugs and having kids

  • good message to this video but sad to say it just creates the longing in me to reach some ultimate goal where I am able to not care about any ultimate goal...

  • @muphart

    Haha that was hilarious :)

  • ALAN WATTS TERENCE MCKENNA MARSHALL MCLUHAN CARLOS CASTANEDA ALDOUS HUXLEY JACQUES FRESCO ROBERT ANTON WILSON JIDDU KRISHNAMURTI PAUL STAMETS GABOR MATE

  • @NDW21x BILL HICKS

  • sometimes I feel like I can't enjoy the song. I keep waiting for it to end :(

  • @foldedpage : maybe you should try with a different dance then :)

  • @foldedpage perhaps you need to switch the song?

  • hm, depressing.

  • fuck...

  • Terrible watched the conductor fly and the speaker has no tone in his voice

  • 4386 people live off their parents and use whatever backwards rationalization they can to feel good about it.

  • @frenchpet Haha sweet interpretation! Yeah all poor people are just losers.

  • Speakin of Trey and Matt... Anyone remember the Southpark episode with the "I am everything and nothing..." and that...chicken I believe...xD

Darth Vader: "I AM your father!"

    Luke Skywalker: "Nooo...!"

Darth Vader: "Wait, there's something else."

    Luke Skywalker: "WTF!??"

Darth Vader: "YOU ARE the chicken!"

Luke Skywalker: "Nooo...! No, that is not true! That is not true!"

Wait, I think I just saw Eric Cartman riding Cthulu..:! O, no it was just a Makyo. Pew....

    GROWL! O_O

    Yaiks!

  • we talk about change but no one wants to change because we are all conditioned to this complicated journey that we have created for ourselves... we do not want to break away from this chain of insanity because we are afraid to walk a new path.....

  • Is there anyway to get a copy of this. I would like to show it to my students.

  • @dallasboy75219 I will send it to you. Drop me a private message.

  • This was so good I am still smiling :-D

  • 800,000 views later, i'm still here watching.

  • @christzak turn off your computer and go outside and live your life.

  • hèy_Ì_fEËl_sO_lÖñèlY_tõDÃý

  • Is there any way to get the voice audio from this video without the noises added on? I keep trying to find good Alan Watts audio clips but people insist on soundtracking them all with ambient music, which is nice, but a bit useless when you want to sample the speech for something else.

  • @Cacophonaut Go to prometheanreach channel on youtube. It has a lot of lectures by Alan Watts, with no sound effects added.

  • este vato si sabe mucho. amor y paz. great guy watts. ja ju

  • Delightful!

  • i have really enjoyed reading krishnamurtis work and now alan watts...they both resonate with the same chord...they get behind the curtin...to the truth of things, yet not one of my friends or even my wife can accompany me here, they will always be stuck in belief and religion. all my life i have seen people trying to '' become someone''....these insane people...dont they know it can never be proven...in the grave...all the acting , ends.

  • Comment removed

  • gahhh that was fuckin beautiful.

  • beautiful and bittersweet

  • @grumpycheerleader ... Watch the movie, "a bittersweet life" that's what this reminded me of.

  • CALLING ALL ALAN WATTS FANS: A documentary of Alan Watts' life called "In The Way" is in the works, but the filmmakers need donations to get it going. A Kickstarter fund has been set up for you to donate money (as little as $1) to this project. Just Google "Kickstarter Alan Watts" to find the page with all the info you need. Thanks!

  • This may be the key to fulfillment and happines in life :)

  • I'm not sure what he meant at the end. Is he saying we should mix what we love to do while working for success?

  • @Tengent Sort of, I'm guessing it means whatever you decide to do in life, be happy about it during the race, NOT just at the finish line.

  • @Tengent I think his point is our society is built around the idea that, in life, you have to complete the journey before you deserve your reward. But society is wrong; life's reward is that we can experience it AS we live it. Many people focus on career and making money, but they make sacrifices to get there. Some sacrifice time spent with friends and family. Some sacrifice relationships. Some even sacrifice their humanity. And in the end, these people missed out on actually living.

  • @svirfneblina Success isn't inherently bad and can give you a purpose in life and happier, but one must remember that it is man-made and not a necessary condition of happiness. Sometimes sacrificing the things you mentioned isn't entirely bad and doesn't necessarily make you miss out on living, but you've gotta know when it will. Much of life has to do with balance. The video is definitely saying to enjoy the process as well.

  • @svirfneblina very well said

  • @Tengent Sigh; even after being told, really? LIFE is what you are here to enjoy. Success will not bring your enjoyment, living will. Everything is in your feeling of it.

  • @Otinsak Erm, I've never expressed that I thought that way, I just asked the question.

  • @Tengent No, no, I didn't say you thought anything; I was just telling you. I apologise for expressing it so rudely.

  • @Tengent Basically, he is saying that instead of putting off your happyness in an attempt to reach this greater fullfillment (which will never come) we must enjoy every part of our life as it is more or less the same as what we are aiming for. So we should simply enjoy every part of our life as we do when we listen to music.

  • @myRealLifeNickname Wrong! There are no steps to the here and now! Your ego is an illusion! Stop pretending and be honest with yourself. Admit your life is meaningless and you will find meaning in the now.

  • Anyone else notice that the videos called 'Music and Life' but in the actual video its called 'Life and Music'

  • It's sad that profound truths such as this, are somehwat of a rareity in this world we live in. Society seems just to teach and encourage blind conformity, to create mindless, obediant workers, it doesnt care for the spiritual welfare of people. A true nugget of wisdom this is. How different thing's would be if this was realised by many.

  • @myRealLifeNickname well i appreciate you not being a smartass about it, and acting all high n mighty like some people on here do. i get yer point, i agree with you
