  • @DaGavinX Are you retarded? Expert at entering dreams? In inception anyone can enter dreams. If inception ripped off paprika then Paprika ripped of dreamscape you slanty eyed dumbass. Paprika had no relation between dreams and reality. It always felt insane and dreamlike. It doesnt even have similar elements.

  • I didn't understand anything exept that her name is Parika ^_^

  • I think that Nolan knew existence of this anime before making inception.

But, Was he subject to the influence of paprika? Who cares.

The original of paprika is the SF novel announced in 1993.

(The series to a magazine was started in 1991. )

An author's name is Yasutaka Tsutsui.

He is a novelist who is very popular in Japan.

  • @RS42434 I just read on wiki that this anime was one of Nolan's inspiration for Inception. :)))

  • The movie clearly has the same animation and character styles as paranoid agent, which is awesome!

  • People just enjoy the movies for themselves.

  • EXACTLY! An influence NOT a rip-off. He was also influenced by The Matrix, Dreamscape, 13th floor, Dark City, Blade Runner. And even then I have NEVER heard of Chris Nolan saying that himself. I've always only READ about it. And after watching Paprika last night, I wish the Japanese has bigger eyes so they could see how different they are.

  • HOLY FUCK!!! Japan wtf crawled up your assholes? I just finished watching paprika and holy shit! It was wayyy diffeeent from Inception. Paprika was about a dream machine stolen and a man trying to solve a murder. Now can somebody(hopefully japanese)open their eyes, finish their sushi quickly, grow a small pair of nuts and tell me how inception stole from Paprika?

  • @6048545078 Nolan did state paprika as an influence.

  • @6048545078 Are you an idiot? You're like those people that for some reason deny the obvious similarities between Ghost in the Shell and The matrix. The premises are pretty much the same:

    1-Dream machine

2-Expert at entering dreams (Paprika = Cobb)

    3-Realtion between dreams and reality.

It doesn't have to be and scene by scene copy to be called a rip-off. Inception is a great movie, but the facts are undeniable. Live with it.

  • I fell in love with this movie.

  • Its like Inception, only Inception didn't have deus ex machinas, had more of a plot, did not rely on fan service, and it didn't just state random shit like "ANAL BEAR RAPE IS ORANGE SQUARE!". Inception also has more Asian people depicted.

Inception may be inspired by Paprika, but that's like saying that Schindler's List was inspired by the holocaust. Just because one is good, doesn't mean the other is KAWAII DESU MIA!!! <3 <3 <3

  • inception is kinda like this but much more complicated xD

  • Weirdest movie ever. Even weirder than Akira.

  • Phaaphreekah

  • wow evan though i cant understand a word their saying sounds pretty good! IN ENGLISH :P

  • I dont understand how anyone was confused by the movie. Maybe you guys should pay attention :|

  • I know this is a weird thing to complain about, but is it just me, or did they make Tokita's double chin really strangely-proportioned and huge, even for someone that fat?

It looks like someone replaced the bottom half of his face with a water balloon.

  • hey has anyone watched paprika when it first came on and it showed other movies? can you guys tell me the anime that was in that?

  • @itsppjtime ummm I saw a picture of Tokyo God Fathers in Paprika?

  • Inception is just a dream within paprika..............

  • Hungary Paprika!:D

  • Hey, guys! join me and watch this movie 2 days from now(august 24), the day satoshi kon died(august 24 2010), and pay tribute to him. I could set up a channel on JustinTV but I dont know how, so just join me and watch the movie or any one of his other workds on that date.

  • what's SOOO GOOOODDDD about this anime is that it leaves to SO MANY avenues that the plot could have turned -- psycho-thriller, terrorism, detective story, surrealism, corporate conspiracy but it's a mush of these, as it blurred dream and reality.

i mean, in western cinema like inception, the absurdity of having to deal with that world is explained by "entering dreams" and THEY have a science for it. but, in paprika, the two just collided and even their real-world science got swept away.

  • If you haven't watch this movie you have not watch one of the BEST ANIME MOVIE EVER.

  • PAPURIKA

  • Donald Duck did Inception first, get your anime history right (Disney also inspired the first, the FIRST anime and manga, who knew?)

  • thumbs up if u watched the movie without understanding it but found it GREAT !

  • @derrotebaron1000

    Yeah, but not this one.

Barton Fink > Naked Lunch > Lost Highway > Paprika

  • wow thats mind fucking.... is there a link that i can get to watch? in english if any

  • paprika xD was ein name für einen Anime XD

  • I Love Paprika! Music is awesome! It was on tv moment ego in my country xDD

  • if there is no paprika, there is no inception

  • @joshjlaaa

Seriously, you weeaboos need to get the fuck over yourselves. The world doesn't revolve around anime. The greatest directors on the planet aren't skulking around Blockbuster videos saying, "What anime can I steal an idea from today?"

The sleeping mind delve trope didn't start with Paprika. Off the top of my head, I can name Brainstorm, Dreamscape, and The Cell. On the TV Series front, there was Sleepwalkers.

It pisses me off when weeaboos think anime runs world culture.

  • @AnimayeIsGaye

Christopher Nolan stated that his main influence was this movie, and i dont even know what a weeaboos is.

  • @joshjlaaa

Link please? From what I heard he never even heard of Paprika.

And a weeaboo is a person that hold Japanese culture up on a pedestal of idolatry.

If I said, "If there was no Cell, there would be no Paprika", the weeaboos would be here IN FORCE telling me how wrong I was and how this is an "original masterpiece". However, every hot property in western culture some weeaboo claims was stolen from some obscure Japanese source.

  • @joshjlaaa

In the interviews I saw online, he cites Brazil, 2001, and Blade Runner as inspiration.

  • @joshjlaaa

Finally, do a Google search on "Inception Scrooge McDuck" for a 2002 Ducktales comic which features the same premise with the Beagle Boys entering Scrooge's dream to get his vault combination. But of course, if Nolan was inspired by something, it HAD to be the anime film that came out in 2006 which was derivative of the dreamtime films that came out before it. Now THAT is why people get pissed at you weeaboos. You think it's all about YOU and YOUR obsession.

  • @AnimayeIsGaye Thank you for this info, I never heard of that before. :)

  • @joshjlaaa To put it in simpler terms, Paprika incepted Inception.

  • this trailer shows most of the scary parts of the movie its pretty good people worth watching!

  • now after seeing this, I definitely know that biblical God totally lack imaginations (biblical heaven is so boring compared to this!)

  • fool.

  • seems scary.. O_O

  • this music dosent match the anime at all. wtf.

  • I have to watch this.

  • I cant see the episodes anymore...

  • 遅くなったけど

    今さん お疲れ様です

  • subtitles are a bit fast. didn't quite catch them.

  • i just got done watching this movie..i don't remember it being a horror movie lol... wtf is with this trailer

  • ive never seen this movie, but i dont think it makes any sense.

  • It Doesn't.

    Still good though.

  • @jeff5kyb kinda .... matrix was based on an anime too actually they copied from the anime EXACT scenes to put in matrix ( ghost in the shell its the name of the anime that inspired matrix

  • @Cobac hollywood plagiarizesfrom jap, bollywood plagiarizes from hollywood >.>

    the world's so fake...

  • @jeff5kyb

    lol very nicely put.

  • @Cobac there another movie also from anime, 'Priest' check out the trailer

  • @jeff5kyb Inspired. The character Ariadne in Inception was inspired from Paprika.

  • @jeff5kyb

    yes !

  • Yeah, the trailer is pretty horrible.

  • this should not be rated R, probably M at the very most

  • wahh I watchedd this movie a long time ago.. I didn't get it x_x maybe I should watch it again :P

  • "papurika!"

  • @goldtna

Fucked up? You want Fucked up anime, i urge you to see Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend. NOW that is a true fucked up anime and started the whole tentacle hentai film subgenre! scenes of rape, mutilation, gore, sex, eyeball ripping and every excess.

  • trailer's music no suitable for this anime

  • BEST ANIME EVER

  • @lisakirara

More than Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Ghibli movies, Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D 1 & 2 and others?

  • Aw god, there's a major spoiler in the ending.

  • This film is amazing, it's just impossible to capture the essence and theme of the film in a trailer like this. But it's a really psychologically inspiring and impressive film. I really want to watch it again.

RIP Satoshi Kon, you will be missed

  • One of the most crazy movies I've ever seen. EVARRRRRR.

  • rip

  • Is like inception??

  • @folladordeprostis in any case, inception is like paprika

  • RIP

  • Holy shit! I didn't know he was dead. Long live his dreams.

  • @babyrapor I heard there will be a remake of paprika with real actors

  • @folladordeprostis

They already did that and it was called Inception.

  • @Johnlindsey289 No inception is not a remake!

  • Rest peacefully Satoshi Kon.

  • Rest in Peace Satoshi Kon...You will never be forgotten...

  • @Buggy702 He's dead!?

  • @storstarkskogsturk: For over a year.

  • Descanse en paz sensei.

  • RIP Satoshi Kon...

  • satoshi kon!!!! TT______TT

  • awww R.I.P

    :S

  • Rest in Peace - Satoshi Kon

He died of pancreatic cancer on August 24, 2010.

  • watched this movie.

nothing like Inception but it has a different dream sequences.

  • @juliusyeung0330 really? someone told me about this and Im thinking Nolan might got the idea from this.....

  • R.I.P. Satoshi Kon.

  • R.I.P Satoshi Kon. One of the most underated directors of this generation.

I hope more people will find your work in your passing and enjoy it as much as I have over the many years I have watched and loved your films and tv show.

  • Sad news.

Supervisor Satoshi Kon died of cancer.

  • RIP from chile.

  • R.I.P.

  • Rest in peace and have wonderful eternal dreams, Satoshi Kon

  • R.I.P.

  • R.i.p. Satoshi Kon.

  • I remember when i rented this movie when it came out, very good movie but very strange still i enjoyed it very much!

  • @makigott10 Yep too similar.

  • chris nolan started working on inception 10 years ago. So any similarity is just coincidental.

  • @TrickyJumba Yes, but that doesn't mean he finished it in 2006, right? He still had that "dream" idea the whole time, but some of the "interesting" things that happen in Inception (hallway/glass breaking in front of Ariadne) is DEFINITELY not a coincidence. If you look it up, Nolan cites Paprika as in influence for Inception.

  • @drxwnedxwxrld No, you idiot. That's not baby powder, that's paprika. Ahhhh! Take that.

  • WHY NO SUBTITLES WTF FUCKER

  • PAPRIKA = INCEPTION, i saw both films... To say it was definitely inspired by this anime

  • @makigott10

Though they are similar, Paprika was released in 2006. The script-writing process of Inception began around 2000.

  • @wat3rki Might be, Papurika written by Yasutaka Tsutsui published in 1993 was the novel paprika is based in.

  • @makigott10

Most agree, some hollywood productions can be influenced by anime. For example Kill Bill is influenced by Ninja Scroll and Golgo 13, Serenity by Cowboy Bebop, Nausicaa of the VFalley of the WInd and Princess Mononoke influenced Avatar according to Cameron and of course Ghost in The Shell/Akira/Fist of the North Star/Ninja Scroll influenced The Matrix.

  • paprika is also dutch for bell pepper

  • Wait...did I just a girl desperately trying to escape tentacles? What's this rated again?

  • paprika in swedish = pepper

  • Comment removed

  • @VladimirovichViktor lol there is a difference between pepper and paprika! do you have paprika on your eggs and pepper on your sandwitch?

  • The English trailer is much better.

  • saw the movie a long time ago it was great

  • Comment removed

  • I love this movie but WTF is this trailer. They completely fail to capture the dreamlike cheerful (and sometimes sinister) theme of the movie...this trailer is just creepy

  • I just watched this movie, at first I was like "Well, what the hell is this?" and I did laugh alot at some strange things. But eventually I became engrossed in it the 'dreamworld' is amazingly accurate but at the same time completely out there.. I don't know really but it was a good experience to watch.

  • Where in Germany can you buy that movie???

  • PAPRIKA!!

  • Paprika in serbian = pepper

  • @lussj66

    also in slovak :)

  • @Mizu0007 And also in Hungary. I guess it is in a few central-european country.

  • @lussj66 And in hungarian as well, as it is a hungarian food.

  • C:\Users\Ismael\Desktop\14ljbyp.gif

  • everyone seems to love this movie.. I though it was very disappointing.

  • US trailer is better...

  • i saw the movie...but did'nt get it

  • Perhaps the trailer is trying to sell the movie to fans of the book?

It certainly fits the tone of the novel, and the writer is apparently one of the most famous sci-fi authors in Japan.

  • they make it look so epic even tho its a happy-go-lucky movie :/

  • havnt seen this in awhile

  • is this movie scary

(im asking so i can tell my younger cousin to fuck off cuz i know he's gonnna piss his pants just like when we watched SAW III with my cousins-_-)

  • this movie is so good that its my favorite anime movie.

  • @udlock9

Do you think it's as good as Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Perfect Blue, Ghibli, Grave of the Fireflies, Vampire Hunter D 1 & 2, Ninja Scroll, Cowboy Bebop The Movie, Golgo 13 The Professional and other greats?

  • It's not that the trailer contains spoilers or anything... it's just that the focus is very strange, completely missing all the good points about this movie. So the problem is that the trailer might convince you not too watch the movie even though it is a very good one.

  • I'm really glad I didn't watch this trailer before the movie.

  • i am so glad i didnt see the trailer before the movie

  • @HoboDragon

i am so glad i glanced at your comment just in time to stop the video before it started.

  • Me too. O_O;

  • @ardistic hahahahahah SAME !!! XD

  • y ?

  • because it sounds like either the trailer has spoilers or takes away from the experience watching the movie having seen the trailer.

  • esta pelicula es super!!!!!!!!

  • dang this trailer does not do the movie justice

  • Ive always wondered where they got the name - its a czech word for pepper

  • @Gagarin235 paprika is also a orange/red-ish powdered spice made from sweet peppers and other stuff.

  • thats because its made from peppers = paprikas its still a pepper so we call it paprika as well spicy paprika - added to spicy meals "sweet" (we actually say it like that) paprika is added to many sauces and sometimes its the whole base of a meal - like Gulasch (thats a german term for czech Guláš) is based on lots of sweet paprika :P

  • paprika comes from the family of chilly, don't know about pepper though

  • chilli:p

  • tekkonkinkreet is better :)

  • hmm I love both

  • Okay, I know that Chiba is 29 and Paprika is 18 but what about the others?! How old are they?

  • The film is awesome with an epic soundtrack... but this must be the worst trailer ever.

  • This movie sets the bar for all anime films!

  • Man, i just finished watching it. Sweet as a nut I must say

  • This Movie is amazing! Satoshi kon is amazing. and Susumu Hirasawa's soundtrack is phenomanal. And the movie is not the same without the japanese voices and english subtitles.

  • Awesome mind bending anime definetly recommend

  • Watching this on shrooms was SO intense!

  • I watch it. The story is hard to understand.

  • @Suikaxtsuki its not that hard to understand if you paid attention ..

  • O_o

  • Bought this on dvd tonight, shall watch this weekend!

  • That's way creepy...

  • yay I own paprika on dvd! awesomeness!

  • I haven't watched the movie, but I just wanted to say that Paprika means Bell Pepper in Swedish =) Enjoy your new knowledge!

  • If you like this movie, try a movie called Mind Game.

It's as crazy and trippy as Paprika.

    It's on You Tube.

  • This trailer doesn't really depict how awesome the movie really is. If you didn't like the trailer, still try and see the movie. Its awesome.

  • NO I can't understand any of the language!

  • the trailer on the website is waaaaaaaaay more different and cheerier than this one

  • whats this movie about? It looks so bad ass!!

  • a theropist that goes into your dreams

  • I know it might be annoying as hell, but I want to inform people that I've put out Paprika with english sub, and original audio. If anyone's interested.
