the trick is to catch them when they're doing it and scare the hell out of them! Another thing to try is leaving the trash in plain view in the kitchen, walk out of the room and spy on them. As soon as they go for the trash, run in there, yell at them and chase them out of the house. Leave them outside for 15 minutes. Try to come in the kitchen from a different entrance each time. My dog is afraid to go through the garbage now cause he never knows where or when I might catch him!
We had to put a lock on ours too!!! Our IGGY pulls ours open!! Opens doors, gets into the pantry WITH a 20lb Bread Baker in front of it!! They are SO SMART and I love them so much!!
Mine tries this, so I decided to get rid of bacon grease by throwing it in a pile of dirt. She ran straight to it and started eating the dirt first time she got out of the back yard. She musta had that on her mind all day. She is always thinking of schemes. You have to watch them like a hawk.
LOL! My Lurcher (Whippet/IG cross) is a ripe little trash ninja, too. Y'can't punish her, either, because she's so fast and so SNEAKY about it that you never catch her in the act!
hey person who owns this video is that your house ? Do you live in north carolina? Because ion vacation i went there and it was in north caralina and it had the same trashcan pull out thing and the dining table and kitchen was exzacle the same place.
I used to have a greyhound (he passed away in 2005) that would slide a stool all the way across the kitchen floor in order to get food that was cooling on the back of the stove.
What many people do not know is that Greyhound Racing has not been around for long. As the first Greyhound Racing attempt was in 1876 but it was an experiment. The first Greyhound racing track was built beside the Welsh Harp reservoir.

what sheesh? if you knew anything about racing, you would not be against it...basically, the breed of greyhound would be lost without racing as few people are exposed to them without it and the breeding of all greyhounds would pretty much cease...

you obviously know nothing about the racing industry...it is so regulated today you wouldn't believe it (and rightly so)...you wouldn't have gotten your dogs without the racing industry....
I wasn't saying that at all! Yes, I know I would have my dogs without it, as my eldest was bred and trained in Ireland (Where they let them roam in the wild fro years). All I was saying was that yes, I wouldn't have my greyhounds without racing, but am still against it. Sheesh.
This is not entirely true. Greyhounds or at least something very close, so far as research has shown, were the first domesticated dog back in Egypt--it might not be Egypt but that area. They have been around long before dog racing. They were used for hunting.
They might not be so prevalent without racing but it would probably be better than the abuse they see at the track.
@boudiicea The name Greyhound comes from the Norse [I believe] for sight. Greyhounds are literally Sight hounds, and they used their sight for hunting.
Fat lot of good t does my greyhound, we even move his head in the direction of he rabbit a few feet away, still takes him ages to notice it.
...your comment is over a year old.... I don't care =D
@WatchUProductions Thanks for that info about their name. My comment was in reference to someone saying that without the "sport" of racing greyhounds wouldn't be around. I was pointing out that the breed came long before racing.
My greyhound has no sense of shame... He steals things from the trash and lies down at my feet to eat it. He always looks so surprised when his butter-wrapper or tuna can is taken away, like "What, you weren't going to eat it, were you?"
one of my greys can open the child safety gate that divides the kitchen from the livingroom, they are very clever when they want to be especially if there's food involved!
My grey is an angel and doesn't touch anything. I even keep her food on the floor next to her bowl and she won't touch it when i go out for hours. I did however find a spotlessly clean and unfolded foil butter wrapper on my bedroom floor once though :-)
the day after we got a metal trash can with a foot pedal, our grey was in there experimenting with stomping on the pedal and getting her nose in before the lid went back down......we just have to lock it in a room when we leave :)
lol very clever!!

My greyhound used to do something similar--Gabbie would operate the foot lever on the bin to open it up. They are so cunning!

LOL, like you weren't going to find it there.
I could just image climbing in to bed and brushing up against a piece of raw cold meat. Oh wait, I do that every night - never mind.
(Sorry for that, I just couldn't help myself) :D
