You're right but it did not prevent the egyptians to be destroyed too.
God reminds us several times in the Koran that there were many generations of Humans who were much more powerful and advanced than us, but they were all destroyed because of their disobediance to God.
Humanity has known many evolutions but from our begining to now, our only duty is to obey our Creator and Master, the rest is only temptation.
