Make a simple transparent text in Photoshop CS3

This isn't transparant text. This is indeed a transparant background..

Does somebody know how to get a background, and then "cut out" the text, like the text is transparant, and the background not..

This was not "simple transparent text". This was create an icon with transparent background. I was looking up a way to do text in an image, with transparent background to overlay on a website.
