  • Must have really cut deeply when Tmmy gave george the Flick.

would have been quite wild young man in his day i think.

  • He looks so seriour lol

  • This is an incredible tune. If you slow it down and voice it a little differently, it sounds like straight up blues. George Jones is an incredibly gifted vocalist. Listen to how he phrases "I wound up in second place"; in this stupendous rendition of the song, he does a syncopated emphasis that is impossible to duplicate.George is so good that it's hard for idiots like the previous commentator to recognize it.

  • @Robertbrucelockhart Even a none country fan, would tap his or her feet. Some tunes a person hears, you know it's top notch, quality....

  • when music was at its best love it

  • What year is this from? So good.

  • @myhearthasahistory13 It was first released in 1965 on the album titled "The Race Is On". :)

  • Sing it Possum!!!!!!

  • i used to think this way. now i know the race is on but, i let the fast lane pass me by. good to be retired.

  • Dick York/Sargent "Darrin Stephens" can really sing :) lol

  • You can tell from his eyes that he drinks a bit.. I guess you can really sing sadness until you lived it...

  • pure country gold!

  • i deiced to listen to both this version and he sawyer brown version . simply put the tone difference in how its sung was the biggest factor . GJ sings it in an upbeat and almost happy tone , while SB has more of a sadness to the tone . thus for this heart break song , SB defiantly is better

  • @etopsirhc NOT!!!!

  • i tweeted i carey and said the SAME

  • Fine performance, Possum.

  • I hate Niggas.

  • Georges voice can bring me to tears instantly. It's very strange. No other artist can really strike me like he does

  • its a fast paced song to sing ..give it a try

  • He took lessons on loosening up his jaw, he clenches it while singing most of the time. In one video of , "Golden Ring" he spits on Tammy Wynette two times on accident due to clenched teeth. He was truely an amazing singer, none of this new age stuff beats the classic country.

  • all classic country singers sound like they do on the cd, unlike now adays country

  • Jim Carey could play him if they ever made a movie!!

  • Judged the best voice in country music, would have to agree, anyone want to square dance?

  • Damn fine vocal harmony from bassist- reminds me of Dangerous Don Rich singing with Buck...

  • Okay, maybe I'll get better reaction HERE. I love George Strait, and am in NO WAY trying to compare them. But, does it make anyone else uncomfortable to call him "King George" when the Possum is still around?

  • This song it awesome!!!

  • This is the KING of country

  • this song still kicks azz

  • Check out the Georgia Satellites version. Its good too.

  • There's nothing like good ol george jones

  • lol smalltown - "9 people lost the race"

George is great, and it is Great to see his young face.

  • ahhh the time where you actually needed talent to be famous

  • I Like Buck Owens over this...

  • i takes quite a person to enjoy this style of music and i admire every person like me who can.

  • The. Winner.

  • thats some shit kickin music........ thank you

  • this guy is so high

  • Yeah, the Possum kinda rushed this one, too many Black Bettys ordered out of the back of True Detective. 9/10ths of you have no clue what I'm refering too...but you used to order pure amphetimine from the classified section of magazines.

  • @waynerjson George Jones drank so much bourbon he wouldn't have been able to stand up if it wasn't for those Bettys, God bless him.

  • kinda resembles Jim Carey dont cha think?

  • This version is a lot faster then most of the others I've heard.

  • @twins8956 This one song made grossed more money than you will make in a lifetime. Which brings me to my next point....they have medication for your extra chromosome problem. Take advantage of it, Skipster.

  • dont fuk wit da possum

  • my dad is passed but he also loved all of his songs I grew up listening to theses songs

  • I am a young man and I love theses songs by george jones

  • what a stupid song no culture ,love based on horse racing what stupid lyrics , what a horrible wife beating drunken ahole he was.

  • @twins8956 um, hey could you be more of an idiot? thanks. hey and when you get a chance, mind taking your head out of your ass?

  • @twins8956 your talkin out of your ass, and it sounds like a bunch of shit

  • @twins8956 In literature, we refer to this as a metaphor, dumb-ass.

  • awesome.

  • This vid is a Buck Owens wanna be.....

But then again George is...just George

  • @sinsracing62 I kinda like the faster version, its fun to sing along with.

  • This life that I live - it ain't for the weak.

  • good music

  • does it seem faster then the studio version to anybody else... who cares, still a great song either way!!!

  • Wow ! Nice video of a young George Jones .thanks for posting

  • You know he's high as a kite in this video.

  • i heard this song on the radio on the way to a duck hunt on the sift river. We limited.

  • He always looks like he's constipated when he sings. Great music though, truely a music legend.

  • i seen him about a year ago in michigan and he had a hard time doing this song his voice is not he same but he was great and i loved seeing him he is the best

  • The greatest of all male country singers, what he does with a melody is amazing.

  • He looks like Woody from Toy Story :)

  • @jawjjj holy jesus hes a spittin image of woody

  • Damn I love some Jones

  • Jim Carrey should play him in a biopic. I know he can sing and do drama really well. I think he could pull it off.

  • I dont understand why they were wearing outfits like mexican guys!

  • Oh may the good Lord bless you with many joyful years, Mr Jones. The state of Kentucky loves you

  • Great stuff. My Grandparents' days...

  • The possum on HEE HAW. Can't beat it!

  • いいね!

    That's cool!

  • Im a HUGE Beatles fan but George is just the best. Original and classy.

  • The Furthur Tour, Bob Weir and Phil Lesh from the Grateful Dead nailed a cover of this beauty on March 29th at Broome county arena in Binghamton NY. Not the first or last time they have done so though it was one of the best in my humble opinion. The Dead themselves knocked this baby off countless times and I loved it every time... On this particular ocassion it just blew my socks off.

  • What year was this? That the actual video was made, not uploaded to youtube.

  • I'm only 17 and most of my friends like rap, but I love classic country like George Jones and Johnny Cash.

  • @Crunnkjuice9777

    You sir, won the race

  • @Crunnkjuice9777 im 14 all my friends are trying to act like all these rapes and pimps i call them idoits and tell them that all the raps roting their brains.Country is was and always will be the way to go. Live on jones, cash, reed, tritt, and jackson.

  • @spartenjb

Amen bro, keep the real music alive. I hope one day those kids will learn to like real music. Also what got you interested in the classic country? It's cool meeting young people who like the classics because all you hear nowadays on radios and itunes is rap and lady gaga music.

  • @Crunnkjuice9777 well i live with my grandparents and 1 day they were playing jones in the truck so when i got home i looked up more jones and people like him and iv been hooked sence.

  • @spartenjb That's pretty cool you had a natural taste for classic country. It actually took me awhile to start liking it. Now I absolutely love it.

  • @Crunnkjuice9777 well i like all old music im a beatles fan also.

  • @Crunnkjuice9777 i agree country is the best

  • @Crunnkjuice9777 Same here exept one year younger, we must have been raised right.

  • @Crunnkjuice9777 so do i but i'm 14

  • @Crunnkjuice9777 right on man, i know how you feel, i'm a few years older than you but still even people my age (25) all seem to be mostly into rap, i can't hardly stand it myself but i sure do love country (except for the stuff that has been coming out of Nashville the past few years, don't know what went wrong there lol

  • @Crunnkjuice9777 Very good.If you like those two you will certainly find a lot more out there! Try Merle Haggard and Ricky Skaggs for starters! Sid from Liverpool UK

  • @Crunnkjuice9777 I'm also 17 and i'm the same way.

  • @Crunnkjuice9777 listen to the grateful dead and tell all your friends to go fuck themselves ;)
